Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 94: Not Trusting Aldric
Chapter 94: Not Trusting Aldric
What does he want from her? Islinda’s mind was all over the place. Just because Aldric flirted with her and pretended to be easygoing tonight doesn’t mean he has let go of his not-so-secret agendas. He had ulterior motives for bringing her to this party and it was to harm Valerie, she believed.
However, if what the Fae guards said about Valerie, then it wasn’t going to be easy killing the crown prince. Aldric harming Valerie would be treason against the crown and as strong as Aldric was, he wouldn’t be able to fight against an army of Fae coming for him.
Perhaps, she was thinking too much and needed to take a breather. Who knows, Aldric was only trying to torment her? But why? She had taken good care of him in the human realm. But then, does the psychopathic Fae need a reason for the things that he does?
Islinda needed to relax and entering the grand hall was just the remedy she needed as her mouth fell open at the awe-inspiring surroundings. The room was very large and breathtaking with its soaring ceilings, and exquisite chandeliers lit with strange lights. It was decorated with precious stones, magical artifacts, and rare flowers and plants. The decorative paintings must be enchanted because they moved, depicting stunning scenes and memories.
Her mind was blown away but it was just the beginning. The grand ballroom was full of colors with the Faeries dressed in loud and striking attires. To be honest, Islinda was moderately dressed compared to the majority of the female Faeries she had seen here. It seems their kind has no problem with showing skin.
There were many courts of Fae nobles, attendants, and magical creatures present and for the first time, Islinda found out there were Faeries with different complexion and features too. One Fae was blue-skinned and it took everything in Islinda not to go over and touch his skin to see if the color rubbed off. Another Fae was luminant you would think she was only made of light.
Another set of Faeries were dark-skinned; purple-skinned; the last of them shimmered. Other notable Faeries had horns on their head; some with grooves instead of feet; Faeries with tails on their butt; finally, ones with breathtaking scales on various parts of their skin.
"Wow.... Wow.... Wow...." Islinda gushed out at the beauty, magic, and mystery of the Fae realm. It was breathtaking. No, explosive! If any of her family had lived to see her enjoy this luxury, they would have gone mad with jealousy.
Islinda didn’t even notice leaving Aldric’s side, her feet leading her to the middle of the room as she took in her surroundings open-mouthed, like a novice. She could absorb the beauty of this place all night and would not even get tired.
Refreshments were being passed around and instead of Fae servers, it was done by a pixie. Islinda’s eyes widened at the sight, she had often heard of the small, mischievous fairies from the bedtime stories, and seeing one, in reality, was like a dream come true.
So many of her dreams were coming true, tonight. Dear gods, what was she going to do? She wanted to scream! Jump! Do everything all at once! She was elevated.
To make it even better, one of the creatures no taller than three feet flew towards her with a tray in hand.
"Burgundy wine," The pixie said with its high-pitched voice pushing the wine in her face.
Islinda had to lean back from the sudden intrusion, and stared at the creature, wondering how its small body was able to carry the drink. The pixie wore clothing made from leaves and its fairy wings flapped as it hovered in the air, waiting for her response.
"Burgundy wine, yes or no?!" The pixie snapped, its shrill voice making her wince inwardly.
Its playful nature was suddenly gone and a stern look took over her expression instead, at least it was effective in rousing her to reality.
"Yes, please," Islinda did not wait to be served and picked the drink instead.
Seeing that, the pixie huffed and flew away, displeased.
Islinda watched the pixie till she was out of sight. Yeah, that was one pixie with anger issues. The creature was probably about to go deafen another innocent Fae, Islinda was amused.
Then, she stared down at the wine as red as blood. It crossed her mind that this wine might not be good for her, but she had eaten Fae food already and nothing happened. Moreover, if she died, Aldric’s devilish plans would be ruined and Valerie would be saved.
Islinda had barely brought the wine to her lips when it was snatched away by a frowning Fae called Aldric.
"What are you doing?" She scowled at him and tried to snatch the wine from him but he brought it further away.
He barked at her, "I should be the one asking the question. Don’t you know this is burgundy wine?"
"So said the pixie who served me, now hand the wine over, Aldric."
He grabbed her shoulder and tugged her forward, growling at her face, "While out here, it’s Prince Aldric to you and I bet your favorite Pixie did not tell that burgundy wine makes the drinker feel very happy but turns her a vivid purple color. On a fae, the effect could vary from seconds to hours depending on their ability, but in a human, the change is permanent until a removal spell is performed." He added with a sneer, "I bet the color purple would have suited you. "
Islinda’s face flushed red with embarrassment. Aldric must think her so stupid.
He added, "Most of the foods here are enchanted and unless I give you otherwise, you are not to accept from anyone else. Trust me, I’m your best bet at keeping you safe."
Islinda would have been assured by his confidence except she noticed the looks the Faeries were giving her. Well, not her in particular, but her partner.
She answered cautiously," Yeah, I wouldn’t be so sure about trusting you, not when every Fae in the room just gave you a ten-meter space."
