Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 92: The Day She Falls For Aldric

Chapter 92: The Day She Falls For Aldric

By the gods, it was a palace....

Islinda stared at the scene open-mouthed after she stepped out of the carriage. Aldric told her they were going to some party and while she had assumed it would be a noble Fae’s home, the palace hadn’t come close to her mind.

The palace was located in a wooded area, giving it a mystical feel. Islinda noticed all the Fae loved nature, hence it wasn’t surprising the forest stretched for miles and she would get lost if she wandered without her unfortunate company, Aldric.

However, it didn’t mean the building was primitive, because the palace was made with sparkling jewels, marble, and gold. The architecture was ornate and intricate, with pointed arches, high ceilings, and stained-glass windows. It looked like something out of a fantasy storybook.

"Beautiful, isn’t it?" Aldric appeared by her side, startling her.

With a hand on her chest, Islinda glared at him before closing her mouth. She tried to compose herself, trying hard not to reveal that she was a village pumpkin. You can take a human out of a village, but you can’t take the village out of her. Islinda began to fear that she would make a fool out of herself, this was her first upscale party after all.

Other carriages arrived in the palace as well, several Fae’s stepping out in a merry mood. Islinda had been worried she was overdressed for this party, but when she saw the exquisitely dressed female Faeries in attendance, the competitive spirit in her was stirred. She had to smooth her hand down her skirt and checked her appearance once more.

"Don’t worry, you’re the fairest today," Aldric said and she gave him the look, wondering if he was being serious or teasing her again. But of course, he was grinning and she couldn’t read his mind, not that she needed his validation in the first place.

Just like every Fae in attendance, they went through the large courtyard which featured an enchanted beautiful Fae statue fountain. There was a little queue and when Islinda lifted herself on her tiptoe to see what was the cause of the holdup, she found out that the guards at the entrance of the grand hall were checking invitations.

Islinda was so busy taking in the new surroundings with a childlike fascination that she didn’t notice no other Faeries stood after them in the queue and maintained a reasonable distance far far away.

In no time, it was their turn and Islinda saw that both guards stiffened, then straightened up at their appearance, tension thick in the air.

At first, Islinda thought they saw through her glamor and recognized she was a fraud and human, and was already preparing an explanation, only to hear,

"Prince Aldric, what are you doing here?"

Islinda did a double-take when she heard that title. Huh? Prince Aldric? Who was Prince Aldric? Perhaps, the guards were mistaken because the only Aldric she knew was standing....

She stepped away from the dark prince as if his presence physically hurt her. Islinda stared up at him with wide eyes and he turned to her with a sheepish grin.

"Finally, it took you that long to find out. It was fun though having my staff keep the secret from you. But it was worth it because the reaction on your face is priceless. " He laughed.

"No way...." Islinda breathed, shakily. Not only was this monster a Fae, but he was a prince as well. A monster prince. Then... this incredible palace belongs to him?

The two Fae guards stared at the both of them in confusion, unable to understand the prank played on her.

It then hit her.

"Then Valerie...." She trailed off.

"Mmmhmmm," Aldric nodded his head, confirming her thoughts with a twinkle in his eyes.

The breath was knocked out of Islinda’s breath. Valerie is a prince? The words echoed in her head. How was this possible? Was that why he left her? Because she had princely duties to take care of and then come back for her? All this time, she couldn’t find a reasonable explanation for him abandoning her and this was it.

But in the next minute, anger coursed through her veins. He was a Fae prince and he kept the secret from her? Did Valerie believe she would think any differently about him if he were a prince or perhaps he didn’t trust her enough with the truth? Did he not trust her at all?

For Fae’s sake, she saved him in the human realm and doomed her future!

Everything she was currently going through was partially his fault. His psychopathic brother coming after her was his fault. He brought Aldric to her.

Islinda pressed a hand to her temple, "I don’t think I can do this...." She said, stepping back.

Her emotions were raw at the moment and there was no assurance she wouldn’t burst out once she lays her eyes on Valerie. He lied to her. He fucking lied to her. Islinda was mad. Furious. What else did he not tell her?

However, Aldric pulled her to his side, snaking his arm around her waist, and lifted his lips to her ears, whispering,

"Trust me, you are going into that party with me or I wouldn’t mind throwing you over my shoulder, your ass in the air and we will make quite an epic entrance..." He chuckled at the imagination, "Trust me, I can be a brute if you’re into that."

Islinda told herself she shivered at the threat in his words, and not the thrill that went through her. Aldric suddenly flirting with her bothered her for all the wrong reasons. He claimed he wasn’t interested in her and didn’t have a heart - which was hundred percent fine by her - and the next, he was flirting with her and alluding to sex in every of their conversation. Well, sex doesn’t equate to love, thankfully.

She was in love with Valerie - even if she was currently mad at him - and would never be interested in his scumbag brother. The day she "mistakenly" falls for the monster, Aldric, would be the day she takes her own life.

Islinda promised herself.
