Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 88: Serving The Cruel Prince
Chapter 88: Serving The Cruel Prince
"Everything is set, master," Isaac said, bowing his head to Aldric and staying that way, waiting for his approval.
Aldric was seated at his desk in his study and stared at his supposed second-in-command with a calculating look, tapping his finger on the wood.
"You’re sure he would be there," Aldric needed to be sure, considering he heard rumors his brother dearest had taken camp in his chambers and wouldn’t step out.
"I’m sure about it," Issac’s jaw was set, his voice thin and firm. Even a blind Fae could tell that Aldric was up to no good. He should be stopping this, not encouraging it. Unfortunately, he has to serve the dark prince.
"Good. You may leave now, I’ll handle the rest." Aldric waved him off.
Issac had only taken two steps when he stopped abruptly and turned to the fae.
"Is anything the problem?" Aldric asked with an arch of a brow, a silent challenge in his eyes and daring Issac to go up against him.
Aldric knew he didn’t have Issac’s total loyalty, and the fae doesn’t like his way of doing things, but it was not like he had any choice. Adric didn’t care. Issac has to embrace his new reality or risk being "taken care of". Aldric has no room for distraction. It was either you were with him or against him, there’s no two ways about it.
He said, "The king would be there,"
Aldric’s lips curled up when he got the message, "Do you suddenly care about me? How touching." He teased him, knowing that was not the case.
Issac glared at him, "I’m just saying not to do anything that would implicate the rest of us! If you plan treason against the crown, we would be executed alongside you ...." He trailed off when he realized that this was no way to speak to his master and one that was of royalty.
He sighed, giving him a pleading look,
"Just don’t implicate innocent Faeries. Some of us have families that can’t do without us." Issac swallowed, lowering his eyes to the ground, and waited patiently for his punishment. There was no way the famed cruel prince would let him go after his insolent behavior.
So when the squeaking sound of the chair being pushed back echoed across the study, his pulse picked up and his heart began to race. Issac didn’t dare to look up as Aldric stalked towards him, sweat forming on his forehead. This was it, the cruel prince was about to deal with him.
"Look up." The prince ordered, but his body wouldn’t comply with the order as it remembered their encounter the other time in the human realm. Issac couldn’t forget the way Aldric had gotten into his head and almost melted his brain from the inside out. That had been the most excruciating pain he had ever felt. And now, it was about to repeat.
Maxi saved him the other day, no one was saving him this time. At least, he would die and be saved from the guilt of helping this mad prince destroy the Fae realm with his warring.
"Look at me!" He barked at him.
There was so much power behind his order, as if Aldric had somehow reached out himself and lifted his face, when he didn’t.
He had no choice but to look into the prince’s blue eyes devoid of emotion. He wondered if the prince ever felt anything aside from revenge. But even revenge burned hot, the prince was cold and lifeless. Perhaps, that might have to do with the fact he was half-winter Fae. The Winter Faeries are not the best at displaying emotions, not with their frozen heart.
Issac anticipated the prince unleashing his dark powers on him but nothing. Nothing happened. They just stared at each other until his eyes burned with tears and he tore off his gaze only for the prince’s signature creepy smile to curl his lips.
"As annoying as it is, I think I like your brutal honesty," Aldric said and Issac looked at him in confusion.
Suddenly, the prince took his face in his palm and he stiffened. This was it. The moment he had been waiting for. Issac braced himself for the attack... that never came.
Instead, Aldric leaned his forehead on his, which was utterly confusing and awkward. Issac did not dare to utter a word or make a move in case the prince changed his mind. They remained that way for a while until he leaned back and said to him, "You would find out in due time that I protect my own."
For a moment there, Issac could almost see through the prince and the emotions swirling inside of him. His fears and insecurities. He felt alone. Lost. But the prince stepped back abruptly realizing that he had opened up too much and the connection was lost.
Issac blinked, finding it hard to believe what he just saw. He could have sworn that the cruel prince had been vulnerable at that moment.
It was weird but Issac began to feel for him, definitely not pity. Something told him he wouldn’t fare well if Aldric spotted pity on his face. It wasn’t until now that Issac realized how unfair that Aldric was ostracized from the palace even though he was a prince.
Issac frowned, why was he thinking this way? What changed?
Aldric cleared his throat, rousing his attention and he straightened up.
"Check on the carriage and inform Maximus not to scare our human guest."
Issac signed, "I’m hundred percent sure she would flop that particular rule. She has been yapping all day on how excited she’s to meet the human."
"The human is not one of her toys, she’s mine," Aldric said with a ferocity that made Issac raise a brow.
Possessive much? That seems to be an innate trait of the dark Fae. At least the ones he knows of.
He couldn’t stand another second in the room, so Issac bowed his head and said, "I’ll get the message across, then."
And with that, he slipped out of the study with great relief. But his face fell when he realized he was about to go deal with a certain horse shifter.
Only the gods would help him survive tonight.
