Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 73: She Was A Murderer

Chapter 73: She Was A Murderer

The graveness of the situation dawned on Islinda as she stared at her bloodied hands. The rush of adrenaline and the need to survive had tapered off, leaving her to deal with the consequences of murder all by herself.

What was she going to do?

Even if she explained to the villagers that Remy had attacked and tried to kill her - surely they could see the handprints around her neck - she had not only stabbed Remy once but several times. They could have seen it as an accidental murder and she had done it to survive, but anyone staring at the scene right now could tell she meant to kill Remy. Her step-sister. What other motive could she need to kill her?

No! Islinda shook her head in refusal. She was a good person. She would never hurt a fly, even the villagers knew that. Islinda had no idea what had come over her, but she guessed she finally snapped after years of abuse in Remy’s hands - the late Remy.

No, Islinda clenched her fist in resolve. No one can find out about this. She can’t be tagged a murderer. Perhaps, she can hide the body. She was planning to leave the village anyway and no one else knew about her plans except Belinda. She had only come to get Eli....

Eli.

That name filled Islinda with so much hatred. He was responsible for all of this. If he hadn’t killed Ryder, then Remy wouldn’t blame her for his death and they wouldn’t have come to this point where she had to murder her - to save her own life.

But even as she tried to deny it, Islinda knew deep inside that even without Eli’s interference, this would have happened. Remy was jealous of her and would have gotten rid of the obstacle in her way of claiming Ryder. Her. They would have gotten to this point, the trickster Fae merely facilitated everything into motion.

Islinda stood up and set to work. She had to hide her body and clean the mess so her step-family would be able to suspect a thing. Madam Alice does not interfere in her eldest daughter’s business and Remy could leave the house for days with no one knowing about her whereabouts. The longest she has ever stayed from home was three days and her mother hadn’t even noticed. If she did, she never said a word.

Before the end of today, she would leave the village and before they would find the body she planned to hide in the backyard, she would be long gone. With the plans of a quiet future going down the drain, Islinda planned to take off as soon as Belinda helped her settle down.

Valerie would have a harder time tracking her down once she goes into hiding, but Islinda believes in their love and he would find her. When he comes back for her, they would have their happily ever after. And surely, he would understand why she killed Remy.

Remy was heavier than Islinda but now she was a corpse, her weight doubled and she could not carry her off the ground. If there was anything Islinda worried about, it was how much time she had left before Madam Alice and Lillian returned home.

But Islinda had to believe the universe was on her side, surely they had seen what transpired and saw she didn’t mean to kill her stepsister. She was blinded by emotions and made a mistake. They had to be on her side. They had been quiet throughout the years of maltreatment and had to make it up to her.

Her stomach churned at the sight of the blood and the realization that she had taken a life. Islinda knew that she could never return from this. A part of her soul was forever tainted and she could never recover from this. She was not the once innocent Islinda anymore.

Fighting the deep internal cauldron of guilt in her chest, Islinda had just finished rolling Remy’s body with the rug when someone clapped from behind and she whirled around to the source of the sound.

Eli.

"Really, you are going with that option? I always knew you were devious inside, big sister," He said with a smug look.

The way he looked at her, he almost seemed proud of her actions and it made her sick to the stomach. What kind of psychopath had she associated with?

"You!" Islinda said with so much pain and anger in her voice. All of this was his fault. He turned her life upside down.

Without wasting time, Islinda already picked up her bow and located the Iron arrow heaped in a mess with the others on the floor with stunning precision. Even with the blood that made her hands slippery, Islinda aimed, the string heightened to a higher tension, and putting all of her strength into it, she fired.

She watched the arrow fly towards the target and just when it looked like Eli was about to get hit, he caught it with his bare hand. Islinda staggered back from the shock, what had ever possessed her to think that the Fae would stand still and wait to be shot? But she had not exactly been thinking straight, blinded by the many emotions rushing through her.

Although Aldric caught the arrow, it was still iron and she could tell it hurt him with the way his lips thinned and his nostrils flared. But the pain was not enough to stop him from snapping the arrow into two and Islinda let out a soundless scream.

Eli might as well have shattered her heart along with the arrow. That was her only hope of ever defeating him and it was gone like that. With a sardonic grin, he let the broken arrow fall from his hand and the sound of it falling to the ground resonated deep inside of Islinda and she let out a strangled whimper.

"I was hoping we could have a civilized conversation, little human but it seems that you can take much. So let’s see how you can take this, how interesting it would be." He announced with mocking anticipation.

Islinda had no idea what he was talking about until the door opened and her worst nightmare happened.
