Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 640: Forgiven Fae Queen
Chapter 640: Forgiven Fae Queen
Queen Maeve could not walk on her own because her feet felt like jelly and she was weakened from her time in captivity. So she had to lean entirely on the summer Fae who didn’t mind one bit and was more than happy to help the Queen. Although Maeve knew that her time in prison was nothing compared to those who had been there for centuries, it still did not stop the resentment in her heart. Her husband dared to put her in prison.
They walked on and it wasn’t until a while that Queen Maeve picked up on clamorings and her brows furrowed in confusion. She turned to the Fae and asked, "What is happening?"
"The ministers and lord’s are protesting your confinity. It is the only reason the king had you released. They had protested for three days straight and the king finally caved in.
"Really?" Excitement bloomed in Maeve’s chest, a smile growing on her face.
"Yes, your majesty."
It was just as Queen Maeve thought. She had guessed her people would not let her remain in Oberon’s cold prison for too long and it worked out just as she thought. Maeve was proud and basked in the support system she had.
"Take me to them."
"What?" All three of them chroused.
"Take me to my people, I want to address them." Queen Maeve ordered the summer Fae, ignoring the others as usual.
A furrow appeared between Lennox’s brows while his lips were pressed together, uncomfortable with the Queen’s sudden decision. Queen Maeve was good at manipulating and inciting people to do her biddings and he could only imagine what she was about to say to the crowd of high Faeries gathered out there. Unfortunately, he could not stop her.
"As you wish then, my Queen." The Summer Fae was eager to help and led her along.
Lennox shook his head with a long sigh. He was seriously too for this palace drama, but unfortunately, he had served the king for so long he was the only one that he could serve.
When Queen Maeve stepped outside, she saw the gathered crowd of Fae who had protested for her release, a wave of pride surging through her. The moment her figure came into view, the assembled Faeries erupted into a chorus of rejoicing, their cheers echoing throughout the courtyard.
With each step Queen Maeve took, the atmosphere crackled with excitement and reverence, her presence commanding attention and respect. As she raised her hand to silence the jubilant crowd, a hush fell over the throng, eager to hear her words.
With a regal bearing, Queen Maeve spoke, her voice carrying with it a blend of authority and gratitude. "I cannot express how much joy fills my heart right now."
She continued, her gaze sweeping over the loyal subjects who had fervently protested for her release, "I stand before you today humbled by your loyalty and dedication. Your unwavering faith in me during this trying time has touched my heart deeply."
The faeries erupted into cheers and applause, their voices mingling in a cacophony of jubilation. Lennox would have been proud that Queen Maeve was beloved by many, but knowing her insidious nature, this level of influence was scary. Who knows what she could do with this level of control over the people?
If King Oberon wasn’t so powerful, Lennox feared that his wife would have overthrown him from his position already. Even now, he would have to advise the king to start cutting off Queen Maeve’s influence in the court if he doesn’t want to wake up to a rebellion.
Suddenly, Queen Maeve’s expression turned somber and apologetic as she said, "I understand that you all are aware of the news spreading of my alleged maltreatment of your cherished crown prince and my son, Valerie and I stand here admitting the offense."
Startled gasps, murmurs and whispers arose from the Faeries, washing over the surroundings. Apparently, some of the Faeries had not believed the news, some even spurring theories that Fae Queen Maeve had been framed by her enemies - to be precise, her co-wives. Not that any of them could say that outfront.
Queen Maeve said to them with her head lowered, "I have no excuses, however, you should understand the heart of a mother. Eveything that I have done to Valerie so far is to make him a better son, a better prince to his people, one that rule his people with benevolence once he takes over from his majesty, king Oberon. " Queen Maeve tactically yet intentionally notified her stake on her son claiming the throne.
She continued, her eyes stinging with tears," I would never hurt my child, intentionally. All I wanted is the best for Valerie. However, when I heard the news that my son had been tricked by his brother, the dark Fae prince, Aldric.... I lost it....."
Queen Maeve’s demeanor was laden with sorrow, her emotional display evoking a profound sense of sympathy and compassion from the gathered crowd. Tears flowed freely down her cheeks as she addressed them, her voice trembling with raw emotion.
"That is why I willingly accepted the punishment from my king and husband, Oberon," she confessed, her words punctuated by the weight of her sacrifice. "Please, do not blame him for confining me in the cold room and stripping me of my hard-earned position as the Fae Queen."
Though her words seemed to defend her husband, there was an underlying tone of resentment that permeated her speech, stirring a sense of indignation among the assembled faeries. Their empathy for Queen Maeve deepened as they recognized the injustice she had endured.
"We still want you as our Fae Queen! " One of them shouted from their midst.
"Yes! You are the only Fae Queen we want, no one else!" Another one supported.
In no time, the whole crowd was chanting their support for the reinstatement of Queen Maeve as the Fae Queen.
Lennox shook his head from the corner, knowing he was definitely going to make a lot of arrest after this.
Queen Maeve, seeing the devotion of the crowd, was moved and said, "I do not deserve your forgiveness and acceptance. I have done a bad thing and hope that my own son would forgive me for what I did to him. However, I pledge to you all that I will strive to be a worthy queen from now on, to lead with compassion and wisdom."
As she finished, someone shouted from the crowd," Long live Fae Queen Maeve! "
Soon enough everyone joined in as the chants which gathered momentum and it was all that could be heard throughout the palace of the king.
Meanwhile Queen Nirvana who was watching from the window stepped away, her face distorting with anger while her hands balled into a fist.
Damn Maeve!
