Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 412: Questioned The King

Chapter 412: Questioned The King

Islinda witnessed Queen Maeve clenching her hand so tightly that her nails dug into her palm and drew blood. Once, twice, thrice, the blood hit the ground before her eyes darted away.

Maeve, the Fae Queen, was being pushed against the wall. She was like a volcano on the verge of erupting. Islinda knew Aldric was cruel, but reducing the queen of a nation to a joke took a lot of guts.

"What else can I say?" A strained smile spread across Queen Maeve’s face as she responded, "I am a kind Queen and known for taking in strays. I think it would be wonderful to add a dark Fae prince to my collection, and I am sure the Winter Queen would be overjoyed to know that I am looking after her son, no matter where she is."

The air grew frigid, and Aldric felt his fists tighten, also observing the cold expression his father gave Queen Maeve. Quite intriguing. In such situations, his father would typically take a neutral stance. It appears that there was trouble in paradise.

Queen Maeve licked her lips. In protest, she said, "I was just going to teach him a lesson. Your son humiliated me in front of everyone! Do I, the queen of the country, not have the authority to reprimand the son in my care?"

"You should know better than to get in the way of an investigation." That was all the king said to her before the uproar.

Soldiers rushed in through the door and stood in various positions throughout the ballroom, causing unrest as the crowd murmured uneasily. Nobody knew what the king had up his sleeve.

"Everyone, pay attention!" The King’s voice echoed across the room like thunder, and they could not help but listen. "It is with regret that the matchmaking ball has come to an end."

There were whispers in the audience as Queen Maeve stiffened up at that precise moment. She organized this event! Something she had worked tirelessly to organize, and it was simply dismissed? It was only one interruption, and the party could have continued as if nothing had happened. Oberon, however, did not consider how she would feel and simply ended it. Queen Maeve was irrational.

The king continued, saying, "Until the investigation is finished, the palace is under lockdown and no one will be allowed in or out."

Another round of murmuring was sparked by the announcement.

"A dark Fae attacked an important guest tonight, and the fact that he was able to gain entry into the secured palace indicates that they have stepped up their game. Or they could have inside help. As a result, all of you will be searched tonight, and if any incriminating object is discovered on you, you will be arrested."

There was almost chaos because the young Faeries had only come to have fun and not be investigated. But King Oberon issued a stern command: "Silence!"

The room became deafeningly quiet.

"You have nothing to be afraid of; this will be a fair investigation. Your parents sent you here to grace this occasion because they were confident you would be safe in the palace, and I assure you that you will be. Accommodations are available for everyone to stay the night after you have been searched and found not guilty." King Oberon looked across the room, "Any question? "

Of course, no Fae dared to question the Fae King. He must already have everything under control. Not exactly, all because a curious little human raised her hand timidly.

"Your Majesty, King Oberon, may I ask you a question?" Islinda hoped she had not missed anything in the title.

"You are a human," said King Oberon, intrigued.

"Indeed, Your Majesty, and that is the source of my inquiry," Islinda confessed with a cringe. "Since none of the other Fae likes me, will I be sharing a room with them or will I have my own? Perhaps, tomorrow morning, in addition to the investigation, you might even come across a deceased human body. In one word, Your Majesty, the sovereign of this magnificent realm and the king of all Fae —"

"Enough with the compliments, young human. " King Oberon stated sternly but was amused on the inside.

"In a nutshell, does the protection extend to me as well?" Islinda asked nervously.

The room was quiet, and Islinda was the object of admiration for the other Faeries. They never imagined she would be brave enough to question the king — something they should have done. Queen Maeve, in question, narrowed her red, irritated eyes at Islinda, jealousy filling her.

While her companion Queen Victoria was intrigued by the human, Queen Nirvana observed the scene with narrowed eyes and a thoughtful chin stroke. Valerie was on pins and needles, hoping that Islinda would not make a mistake and incur his father’s wrath. He could fight his mother, but not the King.

While Aldric wore a proud expression on his face. His little human was smarter than he gave her credit for. Queen Maeve would not touch Islinda carelessly now that the King was aware of her existence. Nor would the king would drop the matter if Islinda appeared dead tomorrow, as she feared.

Islinda felt her heart race more quickly than usual with every step King Oberon took toward her. The Fae king, who could end her life with a single click of his finger, was standing before her. What has her mouth gotten her into? Islinda would have slapped her mouth if she had not lowered her head, afraid to look the king in the eyes.

"Lift your head, young human."

Islinda did not want to, but it was an offense to disobey the King’s order, so she did. Islinda thought, "By the gods, King Oberon was a handsome Fae," until she realized that she was ogling at Valerie’s father and that Queen Maeve was glaring at her.

She nearly choked on her saliva and resolved to concentrate on the king rather than the ones boring a hole in the back of her head. But the striking similarity between King Aldric and his son Aldric was too much for Islinda to bear. Except for Aldric, all of the princes had taken after their mothers.

"Have we ever met before, human?"
