Chapter 374: Found A Fiancée In A Whorehouse
Maxi casually tucked her hair behind her ear, saying, "Actually, this might seem silly, but we met in a whorehouse."
W—what the....
Isaac, caught off guard by Maxi’s unexpected revelation, involuntarily spat out the water he was drinking. The shock jolted through him, causing an abrupt sputter as water sprayed from his mouth and unfortunately landed on Calan, who was the closest to him.
"I’m sorry," he sincerely apologized, his eyes burning with tears as he choked on the liquid, hastily coughing, and his hand reaching for a napkin to wipe away the remnants of the unexpected spray.
The impromptu reaction mirrored the unexpected disclosure, infusing an unintentionally comedic moment into the previously tense room. Kayla was taken aback, her hand covering her mouth to suppress the laughter that escaped upon witnessing her brother’s evident disarray. Even Oma coughed, concealing the impact of the revelation. At this juncture, she had no clue if she was disappointed or... the gods help her, this was utterly ridiculous. She had no idea whether to laugh or cry.
In a second round of apologies, Issac expressed remorse to everyone in the room. A flush tinged his cheeks as he added, "I didn’t think she would recount that part of the story."
Technically, it wasn’t a lie, as Maxi hadn’t precisely discussed the details of the tale with him. Now, it appeared to be a significant oversight on his part. Issac should have anticipated that Maxi was never subtle, even in storytelling. For her, it was either to go big or go home. He took the blame for the oversight, squarely placing it on himself.
He turned to her with a strained smile, their eyes secretly communicating. His gaze seemed to question, "Really, a whorehouse?"
"Oh, calm your tits, my shy Fae," Maxi’s taunting voice echoed in his head, and he nearly slipped from his seat, having forgotten she possessed the ability to get into his head, startling him.
"That is not funny," He wanted to say until he recalled at the last minute that his words would be aloud because, unlike Maxi, he did not possess the same telepathic ability. If only he could somehow bridge that limitation, he touched her hand.
At once Maxi jolted in her seat, wide-eyed as she stared at Isaac drawing everyone’s surprise glances.
"What’s wrong?" Issac was the first to speak, thinking he had startled her with that touch.
"Did you just speak in my head?" Maxi stared at him as if he had somehow developed two heads.
Issac snorted, "Why would I...?" And then cold shock had him stiffening in place as he realized he had not been speaking out loud all this while.
’what in the Fae’ his shocked gaze was the same as Maxi’s
’What in the fae, indeed’ Maxi concurred, a faint smile crossing her features.
It dawned on him harder, Maxi just replied to his thoughts.
What in the Fae? Issac’s mind was blown away. Call it weird, but somehow he could feel it as if some sort of channel had been opened between them and of which the thoughts freely flowed. How was this even possible? His mind was reeling with the startling discovery.
"What’s up with the both of you?" Kayla of course was the first to point out what everyone at the table was probably thinking, "The both of you have been giving each other funny looks. If I wasn’t so mistaken, I would think both of you were communicating telepathically."
It was the accuracy of Kayla’s words that hit Issac harder. He and Maxi were communicating telepathically. How was that possible? Just how?! He was hungry for answers.
He glanced her way, but Maxi immediately instructed him mentally, ’No, don’t look at me, at least not so obviously. I don’t know what’s going on, but we can’t have anyone perceiving we somehow can communicate mentally until we figure out what’s going on."
Issac scrunched his face, ’This is not your doing?’
She gave him an eye roll. Or rather, he felt it.
’If I had this ability, you think I would have wasted my saliva on a knucklehead like you." Her lips curled up even in the middle of her taunt,’ I would have simply shown you.’
Almost immediately, an image of Maxi on her knees while taking him into her mouth was pushed into Issac’s head and it was from her viewpoint.
The gods help him with this female.
Issac grunted out loud, drawing looks his way, precisely his mother and sister. Ahh, don’t forget Calan and Anya. Great, this couldn’t get any better. He subtly adjusted his pants, feeling hard down there already.
"Did you say both of you met in a whorehouse?" Anya’s voice trembled with emotion.
She couldn’t fathom that Issac would choose this Fae over her, a noble one. No, she refused to believe it. Maxi must have bewitched him or something. Her jealous mind scrutinized Maxi’s body, searching for any enchantment, but there was nothing, except the ring on her finger.
Had Issac given her that? Was it the ring he proposed with? Or was it an enchantment? Anya now had dubious intentions towards the ring.
"Really? A Fae house?" Issac pressed on the issue at hand.
’It was the only possible solution I could think of in a short time. Trust me, I had a much better tale,’ Maxi communicated mentally.
Issac could only imagine the better tale, suppressing a shudder.
Maxi continued, ’Your little female lover over there has this crazy obsession in her eyes, and I have no doubt she would run a check on me. Most whorehouses have no records of their workers because they’re mostly slaves or orphans, nor do they release such confidential information. That is if she would even be able to get the name of the whorehouse from my lips.’
Issac pinched the bridge of his nose,’ she’s not my female lover.’
If one thought speaking to Maxi was hard, they should hear her undiluted responses in their head.
"Are we going to wallow in this awkward silence forever, or is someone going to tell me how my son found his fiancée in a whorehouse?" Oma tried to be respectful, but the distress in her tone was obvious.
