Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 371: CryBaby

Chapter 371: CryBaby

The situation hung in the air, fraught with tension and unspoken emotions. Anya was slapped in the face and was antagonized by everyone; they do not want her here.

The sensible thing to do should be for Anya to leave but the Fae already threw away her pride the moment she walked through that door. Moreover, Issac had to realize he was making a huge mistake here. Surely, they were still friends and he would listen to her.

Realizing a forceful approach wouldn’t work, Anya, the clever Fae, opted for another tactic, one that would surely get a response from Oma.

"I’m sorry," Anya suddenly apologized with remorse, turning to Kayla, and said, "This had nothing to do with your sister, so please don’t take it out on her." Those words were directed at Isaac.

Kayla huffed, shooting Anya a dirty look. She then loosened her folded arms and took Calan’s hand, leading him to the seat beside hers and making him sit even though the Fae was quite apprehensive about the gesture since he had not introduced himself to the family yet. To be precise, Issac. They were currently occupied with Anya’s theatrics.

Anya continued, her voice shaky with emotion while her eyes grew misty, "The truth is that I ran into Calan in the streets and I inquired of his whereabouts having a hint he’s coming to see Kayla. That was when he told me Issac was visiting and I left everything, excited to see him once more. You do know how hard it is to see him these days... " Anya’s throat constricted and unshed tears stung her eyes," It’s just plain disappointing and heartbreaking when your best friend won’t write to you anymore and gist about such a great deal as having a fiancée .... " She burst into a fresh bout of tears, unable to control her emotions anymore.

"Poor child...." Oma sympathized, quickly warming to her, unlike Issac and Kayla who stared at Anya, each with a horrified expression.

Kayla was a quick judge of character and had never liked Anya. Of course, she had always expressed her displeasure to her brother who never listened to her until now. It was as if the scales fell from Issac’s eyes and he could finally see through Anya. Not to mention, Anya had the flair for the dramatic, and now she was trying to manipulate his mother to her side.

Issac sat in his seat with his fists clenched, his anger boiling when his mother stood up to comfort her. He hated this. Loathed the way Anya put herself forth as the victim when it was the opposite. He wanted to scream out loud what she did to him, but it would break his mother’s heart and destroy the years of friendship built with Anya’s family.

Issac was akin to an exotic bird in a golden cage draped with pieces of jewelry and admired for its beauty and grandiosity yet was being dragged down by the weight. Sadly, each time the bird dropped its neck to breathe, it would be criticized for withholding its beauty. He was trapped yet had to keep up his appearance.

However, there was a strange turn of events. Before Oma could get to Anya, Maxi had already made a move, putting her arm around her and coaxing, "Hush my lady, don’t cry anymore else we might think you are human with no spine."

While it seemed like Maxi was consoling her, the Fae threw a silent insult, and that raised Anya’s heckles. She peered up at her with a silent glare, what was the bitch doing?

Oma was supposed to be the one doing the consoling, effortlessly getting the Fae on her side. Moreover, Maxi just made herself seem like a magnanimous person. She was using her to promote her image in Oma’s eyes.

"Shh, that’s enough, crybaby," Maxi even had the guts to wipe the tears with her palm, making her seem weak.

Anya was so furious she was close to suffering an aneurysm. The bitch was much smarter than she had thought.

With great effort — she was strangely strong — Anya broke apart from her, a strained smile on her face.

"Thank you." She said to Maxi, yet the compliment did not come from her heart.

"You’re welcome," Maxi said and added, "I know our kind doesn’t look kindly to tears, thinking it’s a show of weakness. However, I have a human friend and she says it’s an effective way of releasing stress. You should try crying often, you look stressed."

Kayla coughed to cover up her laugh and it must be the effect of her reaction because Issac lifted his hand to subtly cover the side of his face, the temptation to laugh very great. Even Oma who was supposed to be the better of them, her mouth twitched a little and it was by sheer grace, she was able to keep a straight face. Calan was the one who looked lost, the sarcastic remark lost on him.

Anya’s eyes flashed and her jaws clenched until she felt the muscles tick. How dare she make her a caricature? Anger surged within her, a searing flame threatening to consume everything in its path. The intensity reached a point where she teetered on the edge of explosion, the fiery emotions dancing dangerously close to the surface as evidenced by the small gust of breeze that blew from her palm.

"Anya?" Oma called her to order, eyes narrowed in warning and features set sternly.

Only then did the Fae look down and realize her powers were leaking off. She closed her palm and it stuttered out.

"Forgive me, I guess I’m still a bit overwhelmed by the tears," She laughed sheepishly to cover up her embarrassment.

Then Anya glanced at the horse shifter with a look so cold she should have been a winter Fae. Maxi reasoned. Apparently, she was unfazed by the malice rippling through the air since she was in the mood to joke.

Oma then spoke up to dispel the tension in the air, saying to Anya,

"Since you’re here, you should join us. It’s a joyful occasion for Issac to have brought home a fiancée and there’s enough to feast on. Our family has been through enough and there’s no one I would want to join in this celebration other than you. That is if you want to?"

The Fae recognized Anya might be uncomfortable with Maxi’s presence and would want to leave. If only she knew.

To that, Anya replied, "Of course, there’s no better place I would want to be but here, so think of me honored. Moreover, it’s within my right to congratulate my very good friend on choosing a fiancée after our years together."
