Chapter 353: Take The Secert To The Grave
From the way Ramirez’s brows lifted, it was obvious that he received the message and then they narrowed in suspicion, "Who are you planning to frame, your majesty?"
"Frame?" Queen Maeve chuckled, finishing the tea in her cup and callously tossing it to the side as the ceramic shattered. She then brought Ramirez’s own tea he refused to take to her lips, peering over the rim of the cup. She sipped it and lifted her face, their eyes meeting, "Don’t you think that word is a little bit too much when I’ll only be shifting the attention?"
But even with all the semantics, Ramirez’s mask didn’t shift, saying bluntly, "You are the only one who wanted the human dead, even a decade-old Fae child could figure that out. Don’t take the prince of darkness for a fool, he’s more cunning than you give him credit for."
Ramirez took a step back, creating space between them as he continued,
"He knew that I would be there to eliminate Rosalind. The whole thing had been a trap and had it not been for my training, he would have captured me. So I advise you to leave the poor human that already belongs to him alone and focus on taking care of your son, Valerie."
At once Queen Maeve intentionally threw the cup still containing the tea on the floor, near their feet. She was not used to taking instructions from others and Ramirez glanced at the mess on the ground indifferently.
"Fine, Aldric can come over me then. I bet it’s time that I remind him that I’m the Queen of this nation. He’s nothing but a speck of dust on my finger that I’ll flick away without batting an eye." Queen Maeve threatened with her eyes blazing, smoke coming off her clenched fists.
Ramirez stared at her small uncontrolled display of power and their eyes met once again, he scoffed," In that case, goodluck with that, just don’t summon me again. I mean it, this is the last time. I’m done with you, Maeve."
Ramirez turned to sneak out the same way he had entered only for Queen Maeve to grab his arm and he halted.
She croaked, "You’re leaving already?"
A disgruntled sound was all the answer he gave her and tried to pull free but Queen Maeve held on tight.
"It’s been a while since we last met Ramirez and you’re in a hurry to leave already?" She sounded disappointed, an inexplicable longing in her eyes.
There was tension in his body but when Ramirez made no effort to move, Queen Maeve took the liberty to close the space between them and hugged him behind, laying her head on his back.
"You do know that you’re the only one I have left, Ramirez? Oberon...." She took a long breath, "He’s no longer the same. No, he has never been the same since that bitch was gone. I might be married to him but I’m no better off than a window."
For the first time, the mask on Ramirez’s face cracked and he had the same longing look in Queen Maeve’s eyes. The both of them had known each other before now. Her own father had gifted him to her when she was the princess of the princess of the summer court. He had been charged with protecting her in secret and had been close friends.
However, their relationship changed when Oberon visited the summer court and she fell hopelessly in love with him. Of course, Maeve had not been oblivious to his affection for her but she had dedicated her youth chasing after Oberon’s affection. Not to mention, she was a princess of the summer court and such a relationship was never going to happen. He would get over it, she had thought of his feelings for her as petty.
However, with centuries gone by and even with all the riches and power, Queen Maeve still hadn’t gotten the one thing she had longed for, to be loved. Perhaps, it was the lack of it that finally turned her into Rimiraz’s arms for comfort. She now sought the petty feeling.
"I’ve missed you, Ramirez," Queen Maeve’s voice dropped to a sultry whisper, her hand already sneaking beneath the tunic and trailing up sensually. They already did it once — a mistake, but one she enjoyed — a second time wouldn’t make a huge difference.
Ramirez swallowed, the tight muscles of his abdomen reacting to her touch and for a moment he almost succumbed to her touch only to catch himself and he broke away at once.
Queen Maeve’s chest rose and fell, her stomach sinking at the rejection. Even at that, she schooled her expression and did not let it show, holding her head high as it was deserving of a queen — even though her behavior was not queen-like.
"No," Ramirez shook his head, facing her, "You’re married already, your majesty Queen Maeve, and I would not risk my head for an affair."
Her eyes flashed, "Did you even hear what I said? King Oberon doesn’t even desire me anymore, not for years and I bet he wouldn’t even bat an eye even if he catches us in bed..." She laughed, "And there are even rumors my co-wife Queen Nirvana has been entertaining other Fae males in her bed. We can —"
Ramirez swatted her head away when she tried to touch him, a warning in his eyes, "So you want me to be your whore?" He seethed.
"It’s not like that —"
Ramirez growled in her face, "You wanted Nova out of the picture all to have Oberon all to yourself, and now that has been done, you’re still not satisfied, Maeve?"
Queen Maeve’s face paled at once and she looked around the room in a panic, trying to see if anyone was around, relief on her face when she recalled sending everyone out.
She gritted her teeth," Ramirez —"
He cut her off for the third time, anger in his voice, "Had I known that releasing Queen Nova’s traveling details to the dark Faerie would result in the birth of Prince Aldric, I would have killed him myself and saved him the misery. But don’t be afraid, I’ll take that secret to the grave, so keep your hands to yourself. Not that you’d need a reminder since this is the last time I’ll be accepting your request. I’m not Oberon’s replacement nor would I entertain your manipulation anymore. What happened the last time between us was a mistake and would never repeat again. So do enjoy your perfect marriage, Fae Queen Maeve. "
