Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 344: Tell The Truth
Chapter 344: Tell The Truth
Islinda’s nervousness grew as she looked down the hall, her emotions in turmoil. Forged by war and hardened by their societal standards, the Fae understood only violence, war, and bloodlust. Her senses were able to register the building bloodthirstiness, their eyes glowing with the wildness.
No wonder the servants wouldn’t talk to her, she and Rosalind had been in cahoots even though the Fae betrayed her in the end. They must hold her responsible for what happened.
Islinda turned to Maxi, "They want her dead."
"Mmm," Maxi hummed nonchalantly and that only made Islinda’s blood boil.
"They will come for me next. The ones who brought me here have been cold towards me... " Islinda laughed bitterly, "Perhaps, this is for the best anyway, I would die in their hands and this will finally be over."
"Don’t worry, silly, you won’t be dying anytime soon."
Islinda’s countenance changed with both confusion and agitation. She hated when people dropped half the information.
Maxi sensing her frustration, said to her, "Only Aldric and I know that you drugged his food and stole the medallion to escape the Fae realm. The Fae believe that this is all Rosalind’s doing. However, they are furious over your weakness and believe that Aurelia wouldn’t be in that critical state had you fought back. "
Islinda snarled," Rosalind drugged me. Why don’t they try to be in my state and see if you fight while being unconscious? "
"Don’t claim the victim here, Islinda, you brought all of this on yourself. To think I believed you were smart," Maxi shook her head in disapproval, looking ahead.
Islinda’s hands balled into fists on her lap, burning with so much anger.
"What did I do so wrong?" Islinda croaked, her voice shaky with, "All I wanted to do was to escape him. I wanted out of here."
"Of course, you did nothing wrong, my dear, unfortunately, you’ve just roused the deadly side of Aldric. No offense but I hope you enjoy the show," Maxi said with sarcasm, although her expression softened at the end.
Islinda was stuck in limbo, her mouth opening and closing without a word spoken. Aldric’s voice echoed across the hall at that moment, drawing everyone’s attention.
"Thank you Faeries...." He looked towards her, "And human for honoring my invitation."
Islinda snorted. As if he had given her any choice. The servants practically dragged her over here after his order. Damned bastard.
"We have gathered here for an important show. Last night was an experience none of us would be able to forget in a hurry and to think that one of our own betrayed me. Us." He said with a mock gasp.
There was murmuring across the hall and Islinda fought the urge to roll her eyes because Aldric had a flair for the dramatic and grand. He didn’t even have to try hard, he compelled the Fae audience with his acting.
"I apologize in advance because I even fell victim to her plan and was out cold. And so was my lovely Islinda whom she tried abducting." Aldric said, and without even pointing, all eyes turned towards her.
Islinda swallowed and clamped her clammy hands on her knees so hard they turned white, her face impassive. She suddenly felt so small with different faces staring at, scanning, and sizing her up. Most of the faces were familiar but their current expressions cut through her. The respect was gone and they eyed her with detest.
Islinda had always known Fae were not lovers of humans, but she had never been more aware of that than now. If they could dislike her humanity, what happens then when they know she was the cause of everything that happened last night? Islinda’s stomach churned, she didn’t want to be here anymore. The air was suffocating and full of menace.
"Thanks to the incident, we nearly lost our beloved Fae, Aurelia. Not that her condition is any better," Aldric revealed, commanding their attention once more.
Islinda said to Maxi, her neighbor with a clenched jaw, "I thought Fae don’t lie? Why would Aldric accuse Rosalind of drugging him when we both know the true culprit?" Islinda was careful not to expose herself in case someone was listening.
Or perhaps she was a coward seeing how she was unable to confess her crime. Islinda was not afraid of dying. No, dying felt like a mercy considering the malevolent Aldric was back and fully charged for more chaos. But being mobbed by a crowd of angry Fae was not the ideal way to meet her ancestors.
"Who said he’s lying?" Maxi tapped the side of her head repeatedly, "Listen to the wordings, Islinda. The wordings. He didn’t point out Rosalind drugged him, she only contributed to it, nor is it his fault people believe it that way," The dark Fae horse shifter smiled conspiratory.
Islinda gave her a long look, "At this point, I wonder if you’re on my side or not?" She was disappointed.
"Of course, I’m always on your side. However, I’ve always been with Aldric before your arrival. But don’t worry, I’m doing damage control. Let’s just hope you don’t undo all of my efforts."
Islinda was left speechless and more confused than ever. Maxi was on her side and yet stood by Aldric. Also, what effort was she talking about? She was curious.
"Today’s show is a lesson to all of you and a reminder that no one betrays me and goes free. It’s a promise," Aldric pointed out, his gaze locked on hers and Islinda felt her heart rate accelerate. That warning was for her. Although he was not punishing her publicly, Islinda could only shudder at the thought of what he had in store for her.
Maxi was right. Her actions had woken this monstrous side of Aldric he had always tamed and remained hidden. Only this time he was not afraid to show it. By the looks in his eyes, he wanted her to suffer.
"However," He continued, "I’m merciful enough to give her an opportunity to talk her way out." Aldric smiled and gestured to her, "Rosalind Devon Vespertine, plead your case before your prince.."
Rosalind lifted her head and their eyes locked.
Oh no, Islinda panicked.
She was going to tell everyone she drugged Aldric’s meal and stole the medallion.
She turned wide-eyed Aldric’s way, what was he thinking?!
Rosalind will tell the truth.
He had to stop her.
