Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 331: It Won’t Be Long

Chapter 331: It Won’t Be Long

No, no, no, this can’t be, Islinda refused to believe that she just shot herself in the feet, sadly, that was the case. She had eaten the food that had been reserved for Eli, all thanks to Maxi. She should have known the horse shifter would be a great obstacle and now, everything was ruined.

"Are you feeling well, princess?" Eli asked with concern, noticing her stricken face.

"Of course, I’m well. Why wouldn’t I be?" Islinda lied through her teeth and was grateful for the fact she was not Fae. She wouldn’t be able to lie freely.

She composed herself so as not to give a single detail away even though she was full of nerves inside. Somehow, she had to get to Rosalind before it was too late. If the drugs took an hour to react inside of Eli, she was human and it would be much more potent. Islinda could not lose consciousness, not when success was close.

She had to do something.

"Why are you not mad at me for the accidental kiss?" Islinda decided to start a conversation with Eli while thinking up a plan.

Eli’s sapphire eyes bored into hers and she swallowed at the intensity. Damn, just a look, and her insides were fluttering with butterflies.

"You called it an accidental kiss, which means it was unintentional, what else do you want me to do? Moreover, you’re my princess, were you expecting I would hit you?" He asked that question while holding her gaze and she gulped.

To be honest, Eli was not far from the truth. Aldric’s reputation precedes him and though their personalities were different, it was instinct to fear him. The thought had crossed her mind but she believed Eli was better than that.

The dark Fae prince did not need to guess her answer, it was written all over her face. So he leaned in and whispered into her ear, "Don’t think that I’ve forgiven you for kissing another Fae right in front of me. But the good news is that it will be settled in bed."

Shivers ran down her spine, not just because of the sexy threat but Eli nipped her ear before retreating and her mouth felt suddenly dry while goosebumps sprang up all over her bare arms. Hopefully, the drug would take effect before he fulfills that dark promise.

Islinda would not wish for her feelings to get in the way of her plans and she had felt so close to Eli than all the weeks she’d known his host, Aldric. He can’t influence her to give up running from him.

Fanning her face to appear flustered from the gesture, Islinda reached for the glass of water and intentionally let it slip from her hand, and it poured on her dress.

"Oh no!" Islinda squealed, jumping to her feet and wiping at the wet material with her hands. She tugged her hair behind her ear, "This is so clumsy of me."

"It’s nothing to worry about, princess," Eli was not harsh on her, signaling Aurelia to take care of her needs.

"No, it’s alright," Islinda quickly said and Aurelia halted in her step, "I’ll just change out of this real quick and join you. There’s no need to fuss over me, I can take care of myself." She gave him a pleading look

This was not the first time Islinda strived to be independent and take care of herself, so Eli did not think too much about it and nonchalantly dismissed Aurelia who lined up with the others.

Islinda gave Eli a grateful smile, then said to the others at the table, "I’ll be back." She ambled out of the dining room.

As soon as the door closed behind her, Islinda’s gait changed and she made a beeline for her room. She knew Rosalind would be waiting in her room and she was not wrong.

"I took the drugged food." She announced as soon as she came in, "Accidentally. Maxi was being annoyingly stubborn and I couldn’t let her have it."

"I thought as much, although the scenario was much different. Aldric does not trust easily and I had this idea he might force you to have a taste of the meal just to test your motive." Rosalind said, pulling out a vial from the pocket of her dress, "Here, have this, It’s an antidote. Good thing you made it out on time else it would have knocked you out in minutes. It is too potent for humans.

"Aye, good thing I thought fast," Islinda muttered as she poured the contents down her throat, the once sweet content turning bitter at the end and almost making her gag.

Rosalind questioned all of a sudden, "Who is Maxi?"

Shit, Islinda realized she shouldn’t have spoken about the horse shifter. However, Maxi put on a huge show already and it was only a matter of time before every single Fae in the castle knew about her. Although Maxi can be a pain in the ass, Islinda liked her and hoped this does not work against her later.

"She is Isaac’s fiancée. Trust me, she’s nothing but trouble and you do not want to know her." Islinda said.

Rosalind merely nodded her head in understanding and did not ask more questions. This was something Islinda liked about her, the Fae kept to herself and did not talk too much – when it wasn’t about Aldric.

Islinda informed her, "Aldric took the food, and all that is left is to take him to bed before he slumps in front of everyone."

"You’ve achieved the first and most difficult step, don’t ruin the rest of it, human."

Islinda cringed, "Thanks for the motivation."

"Meow,"

A cat’s cry came from the corner and Islinda’s eyes widened, "Is that Wayne?"

Eli had kept her "occupied" for most of the day, alongside her plan, that she hadn’t been there when the housing arrangement was made for Wayne, and yet somehow, the cat managed to get into her room again. Eli was not going to be pleased once he found that out.

Well, it made things easy for her. With Wayne here, she would grab him and escape when the time came.

Islinda took Wayne in her arms, stroking his majestic furs, and muttered to his hearing,

"Hello, my baby. Don’t worry, it won’t be long now and we’ll be out of here."
