Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 311: Fae Can’t Lie
Chapter 311: Fae Can’t Lie
"Meow," Prince Wayne stood at the entrance as if he had been waiting for Islinda to arrive all this while.
"Wayne!" She picked up the cat from the ground and crushed it against her chest.
"Meow,"
"Yes, I missed you too, my baby," Islinda said as the sweet kitty rubbed up against her, purring and relaxing against her.
"Meow!"
"I know, I know I failed my promise this time. It won’t happen again," Islinda communicated with the cat as if she could tell what it was saying. No, she couldn’t read cat language, but instinct and the cat’s body language, perhaps this was the bond the Fae told her about.
She carried Prince Wayne in her arms and went in, only to trip on something. Islinda frowned when she found out that it was her clothes from last night.
"Huh? What’s that doing here?" Islinda picked the dress, recalling that she had folded it and kept it in a corner for the maids to take it as usual. Aldric does not let her take on any chores, so she finds a way possible to make their jobs easier for them.
"Have you been playing around my room?" Islinda naturally assumed that the cat must have dragged it from the spot where she kept it and had fun with it.
"Naughty cat," She rubbed Wayne behind the ear with a giggle.
Islinda tossed the cloth to the corner and turned only to catch another sight she initially missed and goosebumps erupted on her arms. There was a pile of sand in her room, and it was not just the enormous size of it that scarred her - how in the world did that amount of sand get into her room - but the way it was shaped in the form of a figure.
It was so ominous that she took a step back. The sandy framework chilled her to the bones and she didn’t like it one bit. She made a beeline for the door, intending to report this eerie incident; she was not comfortable. She bumped into one of the servants as soon as she came out.
"Good Morning my lady. How was your night? I have come –"
"Please check this out," Islinda grabbed her hand, dragging the Fae into her room before she could utter a word.
"I came in here this morning only to find this," Islinda showed her the corpse-like pile of sand and the Fae stopped abruptly, checking out the scene with wide eyes and open mouth. She appeared shocked.
The Fae turned, "Did you –" She suddenly went silent, a distant light in her eyes as if her mind had traveled a thousand miles away.
"Hello?" Islinda waved at her face. She did not know the Fae’s name, having thought it a hassle knowing the names of all the faeries working in this castle until now.
Islinda stared at her expressionless face with a deep frown. If she wasn’t mistaken, she’d say the Fae was currently bewitched. Bewitched by what?
With a scowl on her face, Islinda stared down at Prince Wayne in her arms and there didn’t seem to be anything extraordinary going on. If anything, the cat was urging her for a pet. Almost immediately, the Fae snapped out of the haze she was in.
"Sorry for that, young miss Islinda." The Fae chirped, looking much happier than earlier, "I didn’t notice you had a Wrry cat and was astounded by its beauty."
"Really? Was that the case?" Islinda wondered inwardly.
She asked the case, pointing to the dust, "What’s that then?"
"Nothing to worry about," The Fae said, kicking the sand with her feet and disrupting the shape.
"Are you sure?" Islinda asked with suspicion. She still couldn’t get over the feeling that there was something more about this and the Fae was not being entirely truthful.
Aldric told her that nothing was as it is in the Fae realm and this was the first time she was finding such strange stuff in her room. Was it a coincidence this happened the night she slept with Eli? What if this was some sort of conjugation and an attempt on her life? Could it be that Rosalind was so jealous that.... No, she was taking it too far. Perhaps, she was thinking too much.
"This was done by your cat,"
"What?" Islinda’s attention snapped up to her, "What did you just say?"
"Wrry creatures are innocent-looking pets but daredevils. They are intelligent little imps and I believe he was trying to construct you."
"Construct me?"
"At least what you look like?" She chuckled.
Islinda looked down at the sand, that was her? Her attention shifted to Wayne and back at the figure on the ground, he had been trying to mold her. She was trying hard to believe that.
"Perhaps, I should tell Aldric –"
"Don’t!" The Fae boomed with such intensity that made Islinda nearly jump out of her skin, her eyes flashing for a moment there. That was not weird at all, Islinda’s heart skipped a beat.
The Fae looked taken aback by her reaction as if she wasn’t even in possession of her own body.
She tried to cover up with a strained smile, "I’m sorry for that. It’s just that Prince Aldric is not a fan of pets and if he were to find out that this one is messy, the gods know what he would do to it. I just don’t want anything to happen to such an adorable creature."
The Fae reached out and petted Wayne with such devotion in her eyes and possessiveness ignited inside of Islinda, that she shifted away from her. The cat belonged to her. A gesture the Fae noticed and didn’t say anything, understanding written on her features.
She stepped back, "I would be back to clear this mess." The Fae departed from the room and Islinda was left more confused than ever.
Islinda still felt the slight unease in her belly, but she ignored it. Perhaps, deep down she wasn’t ready to face the severity of the truth. Also, she was right on one thing, Eli didn’t like Wayne. Perhaps, the Fae was telling the truth. Fae can’t lie, right?
