Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 307: His Beloved
Chapter 307: His Beloved
Lizy snuck out of the servant’s quarter after ensuring everyone had fallen asleep. They usually didn’t sleep this early but she had Rosalind to thank for making everyone scurry to their beds after that embarrassing incident. No one wanted to get caught a second time gossiping, especially when unaware of what punishment Rosalind would give them tomorrow.
Walking stealthily, Lizy was observant of her surroundings knowing that she shouldn’t be roaming the halls by this time of the night. Unlike the other time she snuck out to meet Queen Victoria, Lizy was on another mission this time. It was weird but Queen Victoria requested for Islinda’s belonging.
Lizy had no idea what the Queen intended to do with it but she mentioned something about reading Islinda’s fortune. She could not further question Queen Victoria, after all, she was merely a lowly servant following orders. All she had to do was steal Islinda’s personal belongings – the best would be what she put on her body.
The Fae needed to take one of the articles of clothing Islinda wore for the date before the servant came in the morning to clean up. Islinda would not realize any of it missing, she was treated like an esteemed guest, a princess, and had so many clothes than she could wear in her wardrobe. It was a weird mission, but Lizy had no choice.
Lizy was about to turn a corner when she smacked right into someone.
"Aww," She cried out, forgetting all about being subtle. She touched her forehead where she knocked into.... Rosalind. By the gods, she was caught.
"What in the —?!" Rosalind lifted her head, face red with anger and pain only for her eyes to widen in recognition, "You...." Her eyes narrowed in suspicion, "Why are you roaming around the hallway? It’s past your bedtime already?"
Lizy’s heart began to pound in her throat, what was she going to do? She hasn’t had much interaction with Rosalind unless it was work-related. The Fae kept to herself and she was pretty ostracized from her peers with the news of her being prince’s Aldric’s lover. While they claim to be ashamed of her association with the dark Fae prince, Lizy knew deep down the faeries were mostly jealous of her privilege.
"I couldn’t sleep," She added, "I didn’t gossip with the others and hoped I wouldn’t be punished alongside them." Lizy managed to drive off Rosalind’s suspicion. Only then was the Fae able to relax, lowering her guard a bit.
"If you didn’t do anything wrong, then you shouldn’t be bothered. Nor am I punishing them. People have the freedom to speak, even if their words are unkind, I’m not that petty nor do I care what I say." Rosalind told her, rubbing her forehead tiredly.
Lizy noticed the wine bottle in her hand, and cocked a brow at her, "You don’t seem to be able to sleep either, nor do I think the drink will help. You’d feel much worse in the morning with a hangover."
Rosalind shrugged, "Does the threat of a hangover ever stop anyone from drinking?" She stared at Lizy intensely only to offer, "Want to join me?"
Lizy thought about the idea and it didn’t sound so bad. Not to mention, if she turned down the offer, she would have to return to the sleeping quarters else Rosalind would find it suspicious she went the other way.
"Sure," She agreed.
That was how they settled on the balcony and had a drink late at night. At first, they drank in awkward silence until Lizy asked, "I know this is a private thing to ask, but have you and Aldric broken up for real or is he just enamored with his new female Islinda and when he’s done, the both of you get back together again? Is this a harem situation? I’m not really sure how that works."
Rosalind gave her a dirty look.
"His father has four wives, I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes down the same path," Lizy said defensively, looking out at the night sky. The cold breeze made her shiver and she wished she had put on extra clothing. Well, she did not exactly plan this moment.
Rosalind pinned her at the spot with an accusatory look, "Didn’t you say you didn’t gossip with the others?"
She pointed to her ear, "They were listening. No, the information floated into them without my order." Lizy attempted a joke and it worked because Rosalind chuckled lightly.
"They were loud. I heard everything." She confessed.
Rosalind threw her head back as she downed another drink. She sighed, looking the other way, and said, "What’s there to break up when we were never in a relationship? I knew my place in his life from the very start, I was his whore, and knew a time like this would come. It finally did. All I can do is wish both of them the best and hope Islinda doesn’t end up worse than me. "
Rosalind appeared to be casual with the whole thing but Lizy could see the pain, disappointment, shame, and anger in her eyes. She was not okay at all. And it startled her to know the Fae really cared about Aldric, the dark Fae prince. Who would like a dark Fae? It wouldn’t be her for starters.
"You’re right," Rosalind abruptly stood up, "Drowning myself in Faerie wine would not solve my problem. I would feel very miserable the next morning." She then looked at Lizy, "Although short, it was nice to sit with you, curious one. Although you should go in soon before you land yourself in trouble. This is no place to wander at night." She warned her and left.
Of course, wandering the halls at night was not allowed. When she arrived, it was rumored that Prince Aldric was training dark creatures that would devour innocent servants at night. Of course, she came to realize later that they were all rumors and no servant had gone missing.
Lizy did not return to her quarters and snuck into Islinda’s room. As she had guessed, the human was not around and must be in the prince’s room. Good for her. Lizy closed the door behind her and went to the corner of the room where she knew Islinda folded the dirty clothes neatly. She liked that Islinda was considerate and made their jobs easy for them.
The Fae had just picked the clothes and was about to leave when she had this feeling that she was not alone. She turned suddenly only to see a white cat standing in the middle of the room.
"By the gods, you scared me." She sighed, hands to her chest.
Lizy walked over to the cat and crouched down with a smile, "Aren’t you adorable?" She reached out to touch the cat only to grimace when it snatched her.
She retracted her hand at once, checking the wound. It was much deeper than she expected, blood trickling down.
"Bad cat!" Lizy scolded it and stood to her feet to leave. This was not what she came here and needed to go before Islinda chose this moment to return.
She barely took two times when the hairs on her arms stood on edge and she turned only for her eyes to widen in horror and her mouth opened in a silent scream.
In place of the cat was a Fae with an angelic yet cruel beauty. His long hair flowed down to his shoulder but what startled Lizy was the markings and runes on his naked body, even up to his face.
"D-dark Fae!" She stammered.
And that was the last word Lizy let out before the dark Fae seized her face and kissed her. It was not a normal kiss because he sucked away her life force and Lizy had a horrified expression as he took everything till she was a husk. By the time he was done, he pushed her shell away.
"That’s better," The dark Fae male relished the soul he had just consumed. He looked around the room as if searching for something. Or someone.
Now, where was his beloved?
