Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 270: The Winter Queen’s Curse
Chapter 270: The Winter Queen’s Curse
You should sleep, princess." Aldric said, his breath hot and heavy on her ear, and Islinda shivered at the thrill that went through her. She would have prayed for the heavens to help her, but it seems they were intent on testing her self-control today. She could not handle this temptation at all.
But then, how could she sleep? When her face was practically pressed to Aldric’s chest, she could feel the heat emanating from his body and his male strength.
Islinda breathed in and out, realizing further how intoxicating Aldric’s scent was. His scent was akin to a drug that she couldn’t help but want to taste over and over again. It was engulfing and made her head swim.
It was a dangerous feeling considering her attraction to this Fae was suddenly heightened and had the urge to trace every bulging muscle. Not Just that, perhaps sink her teeth into his flesh and have a bite. Fuck. What has gotten into her? Her libido has gone haywire.
"I have a question," Islinda decided talking would keep her distracted from all the steamy thoughts roaming in her head. Moreover, this seemed like the perfect time to get answers from this willing Aldric.
Aldric pulled away just enough to look down at her, but his arm remained locked around her waist.
"What are you curious about, princess?" He asked, his attention fixed on her.
Islinda was a bit intimidated by the intensity of his gaze. It was almost as if she was the only thing in this world that interested him and to be honest, the emotion scared her. However, she was able to compose herself and said, "It’s about you."
For a second, there was nothing but silence only for his lips to curl into a knowing grin and he answered seductively, "You’re free to know everything about me. And I mean, anything, including the little things. Not that there is anything little about me."
Islinda went red in the face realizing how ambiguous his words were. So much ego! She cleared her throat and attempted to sit up, but Aldric pulled her back down.
Islinda blinked in confusion, "What are you doing?"
"We can talk while lying down." He insisted.
Damn it.
Islinda didn’t like this position at all. It was too intimate. They were so close they practically breathed each other’s air. Not to mention, her attention was being drawn to his taut chest and It was distracting. Then came his gaze, while it was blue and not the eerie black, it felt all-seeing and she couldn’t lie to him while staring him dead in the eyes.
"Fine." She gave in knowing it was useless arguing with him, "Have you always been this way?"
"You mean how long has Aldric been mad?"
"Mad?" Islinda whispered, tentatively. It was definitely the perfect word for Aldric yet she felt uncomfortable using it, especially now he meant it literally.
"For as long as the curse kicked in," Aldric answered nonchalantly as if this didn’t concern him or perhaps he had become inured to it.
"What curse?" Islinda’s curiosity was piqued at once.
Aldric smiled at her reaction, reaching out to tap her nose, saying, "My curious little princess, you have known secrets no one else but Maxi knows. Do you think I can let you go now?"
The intent gleam in his eyes made her shudder. He meant it. The dark Fae prince was not letting her go, especially not with his secrets.
Fuck.
Why does she keep digging her grave deeper and deeper?
Aldric continued, oblivious to her dilemma, "It’s the Winter Queen’s curse, aka my mother Queen Nova."
A small frown made its way across Islinda’s face. What was he talking about? He seriously didn’t mean his mother made him this way. This was seriously messed up.
"Everyone in the Fae realm knows the story about the circumstance that led to the birth of the dark Fae prince. But what they don’t know is the details of the curse and believed my mother had been so horrified by my existence, that she tried everything to get rid of me, " He smiled wryly, "They were right though. She did hate me."
Islinda swallowed, the air in the room suddenly heavy as she listened to the rest of his story.
"I told you the last time how my father rescued my mother. But what was never disclosed to the Faerie was that the Winter Queen never recovered from that incident. Whatever ritual they performed on her to change the baby in her womb into the perfect dark Fae prince took a great toll on her mind. She was never the same. However, her little prince liked her that way. Even when she hurled those words at him and told him how much she hated and regretted birthing him, Aldric loved her nonetheless. His love for his mother was so great, that he gave her his true name. A huge mistake on his path, however, Aldric would do it again if given the chance. "
Aldric said, "Our middle name is powerful, a sacred name given to us by the gods. That’s why it’s called our true name for a reason. We are the closest to the primordial gods, limited by our powers and imagination, and as long as you have the true name of a high Fae or royal, you can do anything to them. Even control them."
Islinda let out a sharp breath as it dawned on her," She cursed you with it."
Aldric leaned into her, and for a moment, Islinda thought he was going to kiss her, only for him to stop short and confess," The thing is Aldric knew she would harm him. The same way he knows you would be the death of me."
Islinda’s mouth parted, unable to form a word. Her heart began to pound wildly and with him being this close, she had no doubt he heard it.
"I wouldn’t curse you. I am not your mother." She told him with a parched throat. How did the conversation change this quickly?
"I know." Andric smiled wryly, tucking her hair behind her ear, " You would do way worse."
