Chapter 254: Flipped Her Over Her Shoulder
"My lady,"
A slight shake was all that was needed for Islinda to bolt upwards with a startled gasp, looking around with a racing heart until she recognized the Fae in front of her and that she was still in the library. She must have fallen asleep in the middle of her reading.
"Lizy..." She said hoarsely, "What are you doing here?"
"Sorry for the scare, my lady," Lizy lowered her head apologetically, "Aurelia sent me to check in on you and I came across you sleeping. Believe me, It was meant to be a gentle shake."
"No, it’s alright," Islinda found herself yawning as she stretched her body. There was a crick in her neck and it was all thanks to her awkward sleeping position. She had picked another book to read earlier when she fell asleep.
As if that was not enough, her stomach chose that moment to rumble loudly and a heat of embarrassment rose to her cheeks, "Sorry."
"No, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about, my lady. Come, I will help you shower for the night and the food should be ready before you’re done."
"Cooking? Is that what Aurelia is doing?"
"I’m afraid so, my lady. Dinner is being prepared. "
"In that case, take me to the kitchen. I want to help out too, " Islinda suggested, excited.
"What?" Lizy looked up at her in surprise.
"I want to contribute to the cooking. Come on, let’s go," Islinda said, taking the lead.
Islinda initially had plans of helping out in the kitchen and buying over the servant’s trust. How else was she going to drug Aldric if she didn’t have access to his meals?
"My lady!" Lizy hurried over and got in her way. She licked her lips nervously, "I’m afraid that I can’t let you do that, my lady. You’re Prince Aldric’s guest, not a servant. He would have my head off if he heard of that."
"Don’t worry I’ll speak to Aldric on your behalf, so your head is secured," Islinda said and tried to side step her but the Fae stood her ground by spreading out her arms and blocking her path.
Islinda raised a brow, annoyance shooting through her, "Seriously?"
"I’m sorry but Prince Aldric’s words are the law here."
Islinda let out an exhausted sigh, hands on her waist. Tilting her head, she slowly regarded the Fae servant, "Tell me then, is Prince Aldric present?"
The Fae gnawed on her bottom lips, debating with her answer. "No." She finally said.
Islinda smiled sweetly, "In that case, we have our problems settled. Prince Aldric would not punish you over something that he has no idea about." She patted the Fae on the shoulder and moved along.
"But, my lady —"
Islinda could swear she had no idea what happened except she felt the quick flush of anger. It was quick, nor did she have any control over her body. One moment Lizy was about to touch her and the next, she grabbed her hand and flipped her over her shoulder so quickly that Lizy only realized the moment her back hit the library’s floor and the breath left her lungs.
"By the gods," Islinda screamed from the shock, her hands flying to her mouth, her eyes wide as she gawked at the Fae moaning on the floor.
"I’m so sorry. I don’t know what came over me," Islinda went to help the young Fae but Lizy scrambled away from her with real fear on her face and when she had stood, fled from the library before Islinda could stop her.
"No, please don’t....." leave me.
It was too late. She was all alone.
Islinda wanted to explain what happened, even though she could not describe what in the world got into her.
Islinda heaved, still staring at the spot with unbelief. She swore to the gods, she never intended to hurt Lizzy. It just simply happened. Islinda admitted she had some pretty nice survival skills as a hunter but this was next level.
The gods, she flipped a Fae female over her shoulder without feeling a thing. That shouldn’t even be possible. Lizy was undoubtedly stronger than her, the Fae’s strength probably equaled an able-bodied human male.
Perhaps, the accumulated stress finally got to her and she took it out on the poor Fae. Another explanation she concocted was that she had woken up from sleep and had some reserve strength. She has heard people doing extraordinary things while feeling sleepy.
Not to mention, she merely took Lizy by surprise and was able to dislodge her, Islinda didn’t read much meaning into it. Also, she was a strong female and attributed whatever occurred to luck. Islinda guessed if she were to face off against Lizy again, the Fae would be better prepared and would beat the life out of her. Perhaps, she should get Aldric to teach her some defense moves - whenever she sees her.
But then, there goes her chance of helping out in the kitchen. Islinda groaned into her palm. Why has nothing been going her way recently? Islinda wanted to cry.
By the time Islinda arrived at her room, another Fae was there to help her and guilt crept into her heart. Has she reported what happened to Aurelia? What would they think of her now? Islinda did not want the Fae servants to think that she abused the ones who served her.
If the servants turned against her, especially now that Aldric and Issac were away, then she was doomed. What if they made a meeting and decided to murder her in her sleep, disguising it as a suicide? Islinda shuddered.
No, she was thinking too much.
Thankfully the other Fae did not behave oddly and was able to quell her suspicion. Although Islinda has protested against the servants washing her like a child, Aurelia was a stubborn Fae to deal with. Although she gives in sometimes, but not all the time.
Islinda felt better after the bath, having made up her mind to apologize to Lizy tomorrow after she must have calmed down. What happened was an accident and wouldn’t be repeated.
Feeling refreshed and clean, Islinda had a huge appetite and was eager to have another of Aurelia’s delicious meals, at least the kitchen prepared it.
However, the excitement died off when she returned to her room with the Fae who served her and came across another familiar Fae.
"My lady, dinner has been served," Rosalind curtsied.
Islinda shivered.
