Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 245: A Female In Your Life
Chapter 245: A Female In Your Life
Issac should have trusted his sister not to keep her mouth closed.
"Mother, Issac, and Anya kissed!" She announced as soon as the beautiful Fae came into view with the dishes in hand.
His mother did a double take, her mouth dropping open, "Wow, that is surprising," Her gaze instantly connected to his with a questioning look.
"Anya said she couldn’t help herself, so she kissed him. Can you imagine that? The both of them look so adorable together," Kayla continued gushing over them without reading the signal in the room..
She answered, "Yes, my dear, I’m trying to imagine that," His mother’s eyes were filled with suspicion and wariness even as they held Issac captive. The mother and child were so close that they learned to communicate with their eyes alone.
Anya must have noticed the silent communication between them because she intentionally interrupted them by saying, "I’ll help you with that, mother,"
His mother blinked and handed the dishes to her with a tight smile, "Sure."
Anya returned the smile, although hers was much brighter. Either she was naturally a cheerful Fae or just good at pretending, and no one noticed until now. Nonetheless, she left with the food, heading to the dining and Issac’s eyes followed her till she was out of sight.
Issac thought he was okay. He assumed the memories of that night would be erased from his mind. But the reverse was the case, he felt this great resentment in his heart and justice for what she had done to him. He needed to confront her for what she did to him. But another part of himself didn’t want to bring up a past Issue that could damage the relationship between both families.
However, seeing Anya with innocent smiles and behaving as if nothing happened - like she did nothing - seems to grate on his senses. He wanted her out of his house and possibly never see her again, but questions were sure to arise if he did that, so he buried the grievances inside of him - and endured it.
His mother gave him a long look that could only be interpreted as "we would talk later" before she followed after Anya. Issac expelled a long breath, running his hand through his hair, slightly startled when Kayla placed her hand on his shoulder and he glanced at her warily.
"I don’t know what’s going on between you and Anya but you sure don’t look like a Fae in love." She sighed, "If we are influencing your decision in one way or the other because of our family’s closeness, then don’t do it. There are many unmated females in Astaria. Not to mention..." Her lips curled into a smirk, "I love a bit of fresh air."
Issac’s jaw dropped, was his sister seriously giving him relationship advice? He should have made a comeback, instead, Issac burst into laughter. This has got to be the most hilarious thing he has experienced today. His baby sister was giving him love advice? Unbelievable.
"Fine, laugh all you want," She made a face at him, offended by his laughter.
Issac told her, "Don’t think you’re getting away from telling me about Calan just because you exhibited one percent of maturity."
Kayla threw her hands up, "Seriously, one percent? Give me a bit of credit, brother. I have been fine without your overwhelming cloud of protectiveness over the past months."
"In that case, tell me who Calan is, and let me be the judge of character."
She scoffed, "As if I trust your judgment."
"What?" Issac’s face twisted, "You’re as good as dead today,"
"Mother!" Kayla screamed for rescue as the both of them played a game of cat and mouse around the house. Issac’s sister was much smaller and light on her feet, hence was able to slip right through his fingers.
But before she could reach the dining room, he snatched her around the waist and lifted her off the ground. Kayla kicked the air furiously and struggled with him, screaming at the top of her lungs as if she was being tortured, "Mother, help me!"
What Issac felt next was a hit to the head and he dropped Kayla with a yelp, turning around with furious eyes to see who had done that, only to notice his mother with her raised slipper. By the gods, he has grown beyond being hit with a slipper, unfortunately, his mother had a different opinion.
She hit him a second time while Kayla stood at the sideline, laughing, " You are an adult, Issac, and old enough for this. Stop bullying your sister."
He retorted, "You mean my younger sister that is swapping saliva with a Fae called Calan."
"Oh, Calan," She blinked in remembrance, "Nice kid."
"By the gods," Issac threw his head back and stared at the ceiling. His mother was in cahoots with Kayla, he should have known.
"Kayla is still a child," Issac argued with her, still eyeing the slipper that she returned to her feet, thankfully, "This is not the time to be interested in males, may the gods help me if I get his hands on my sister. None of them always have good intentions, trust me, mother," He attempted to convince her.
His mother chuckled, "As a Fae thinks, so is he." She pointed out that he was no different from the males, "Kayla is old enough to make her decision. Come to the dining before the food runs cold." And that was the end of their conversation.
No wonder, Kayla was so confident. She had their mother’s backing, which means the case was as good as over.
Damn it.
There was not much conversation during the meal, perhaps, his family sensed the tension between him and Anya or everyone had secrets they mulled over. Nor did they bring up him working for Prince Aldric knowing it was a sensitive issue, especially not in front of the guest, Anya. Issac had to thank his mother because he did not sit with Anya as usual, as in the past, but across from her and she could not try any antics under her watchful eyes.
As soon as the meal was over, Issac returned to his room to have a short rest only for his door to burst open, and in came Anya.
"What are you doing here?" He gritted his teeth, quickly putting on his clothes as his chest was bare. As well as making a mental note to lock the door before he went to bed.
Anya did not answer, rather she walked towards him with a sway of her hips and a seductive look, attempting to place her hand on his chest only for him to catch it mid-air. Her expression changed.
"What’s wrong with you?" She asked, hurt by his rejection.
"I should be the one asking that question," He flung her hand away harshly, unmoved by her tearing eyes. How had he not seen through her manipulation all this while?
Anya swallowed, tugging her hair behind her ear. She said shyly, "I thought after that night.... I thought we ...."
Issac’s jaw clenched as it took him everything to rein in his emotions. He could confront her now but this was not the place nor time. He didn’t want to inconvenience his family like this.
He snarled, "Well, you thought wrongly. Now make use of the door, Anya. I need my rest."
Anya’s face paled, "You were never like this. What happened to our friendship?"
Issac did not answer and the hard clenching of his jaw was the cue she needed to leave. She should have thought about their friendship before attempting that stunt.
Anya whirled around before she reached the door and covered the distance, snarling in his face, "You have a female in your life, don’t you? That is why you are being this way."
Issac was taken aback by the dark fury in her eyes, shuddering at the ugly trait he hadn’t noticed until now. So with the same rage coursing through him, Issac straightened to his full height, towering over her smaller frame, commanding with every anger in him, "Leave now."
And she did.
But not without an intensity in her eyes that left him frowning.
