Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 243: Reconcile With His Family
Chapter 243: Reconcile With His Family
Upon entering through the back door, there was a warm and inviting ambiance which was shattered the instant the siblings came in with their squabbling.
"Seriously, are you not going to tell me who Calan is?" Issac huffed in disbelief when she marched on, "Are you for real, Kayla? I leave you for just a few months and you are already running wild?!"
Kayla had a lot of words to say to her brother but she rolled her eyes out of exasperation and didn’t give her brother the satisfaction of a reaction by going about her duty. She dropped off the produce from the garden in the kitchen, yet Issac followed. She then left for the living room and he still followed!
Unable to stand him breathing down on her neck anymore, Kayla suddenly stopped short and glared at him before yelling at the top of her voice, "Mother, Issac is harassing me."
"What?! What do you mean Issac is harassing you?" A shocked voice responded from upstairs immediately before footsteps rushed down the wooden stairs.
While Kayla looked smug with her arms wrapped around her chest confidently, Issac was a bit taken aback, white in the face. He had forgotten all about his mother in a bid to interrogate his sister’s dating life and now, he froze on the spot as a petite beautiful Fae came into view.
"By the gods, Issac....." The woman gasped, lifting a hand to her mouth while drinking in the length of her son, teary-eyed.
Issac gulped, his throat clogged with emotion. His hands were suddenly clammy and he rubbed them down his sides nervously as the guilt crept in. He had not given his family as much as a warning before he took off with Aldric.
There was just no time, one moment he was a guard in the palace, and the next the king had gifted him to his villainous dark Fae son. The next he was treading in the human realm and helping Aldric with his malicious plans against Valerie, not that he had any choice.
Before Issac could return, the news had already spread that he now served the dark Fae prince Aldric, and knew his mother must have heard of it. Perhaps, it was the shame, but he couldn’t find the courage to write to them and procrastinated his visits.
He assumed his mother must have been disappointed by the outcome, and didn’t know how to face her. His father was a great captain who served under the beloved king Oberon. He brought honor, riches, and fame to the family. But him? Nothing but disgrace. Issac had no doubt his future was bleak now he served Aldric unless, of course, the king reversed that or Aldric let him go. Isaac believed the latter might be in order soon considering his shaky relationship with the dark Fae prince.
Adjusting his weight from foot to foot with his face lowered to the ground in shame, he said, "Mother, I’m ...."
Issac could not finish the rest of his words because the woman pulled him into a surprisingly strong hug that knocked the breath out of his lungs. He stiffened at first only to relax into her comforting hold, putting his arm around her and leaning her head on her shoulder.
"I’m so sorry, I should have come sooner but I didn’t know how to -"
"Shh, it’s okay. I understand. You don’t have to say a thing." She leaned back to look at him with a kind smile, "You don’t have to explain a thing. If anything, I’m very glad that you are alive."
The Fae reached and clasped his face with her smaller palm, deep affection in her eyes, "I thought you were dead when I heard the king gave you away to Prince Aldric. Although I’m mad at you for not sending messages, I had to source around for news about you and to convince myself that you were alive. Thank the gods that you are here now and my eyes can see you one more time." She pulled his head forward and placed her forehead against his with her eyes tightly shut in relief.
Issac now cupped her face with both of his bigger palms," I’m so sorry, I never intended to make you worry. I was just.... too confused and scared... and disappointed. Everything happened too quickly and I didn’t know how to explain it to you. Serving Prince Aldric was not my dream -"
"Shh, say no more, son. Everything that happens is ordained by the gods and serves a purpose. We cannot contradict or question their plans for us."
Although Isaac wanted to argue that this had nothing to do with the gods and he would not have been affiliated with the dark prince if he had ignored Aldric that day at the palace. However, his mother was religious and an avid believer in their gods so he shut up, having no desire to ruin the moment.
His mother told him with big assurance and heated intensity in her eyes, "I would never be ashamed of you, my son. There are some things we have no control over and have no choice but to accept it. However, I would continue to pray to the gods that they keep you alive."
Issac swallowed, having no idea how to tell his lovely mother to pray more for their safety because Aldric might come after them as punishment for his crime. Although Issac had a lingering doubt Aldric might touch a prominent citizen of Astaria. His father might be late but they still reaped the benefits and had high standing in the society.
The death of his family would not be left unattended and the king would order an investigation into the matter. However, it was better safe than sorry and Aldric can do whatever he set his mind to. He better not tempt fate. He would have to think about how to solve this problem.
"Aww isn’t this reconciliation heart-melting," Kayla snorted and strode away.
Issac slowly pulled away from his mother, asking, "What’s up with her?"
"Well," She breathed, "I might have forgiven you easily but Kayla is still mad at you. But don’t worry, I’m sure you will figure something out."
"Yeah," Issac muttered under his breath without conviction.
"You should go and wash up, I’ll set the table for lunch." His mother ushered him to his room.
Thus Issac ended up in his room and complied with his mother’s instruction. He felt weightless and free now that he was on good terms with his family again, well not everyone. Issac sighed, Kayla would be a hard nut to crack this time.
Issac made it back to the living room when someone called him. He turned and saw her. Issac barely had the time to wipe the surprise off his face when she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him.
