Islinda moistened her lips, anxiety spiraling through her. She lifted her eyes to him, "Fine, a kiss." She finally made up her mind. Just one kiss and this would be over.
However, a shiver raced down her body when she saw the sudden gleam in Aldric’s eyes. He looked like he was prepared to devour her whole and Islinda swallowed. Damn, what has she done?
Without a word, Islinda abandoned the bed and was up on her feet with Aldric arching his perfect brow at her action, demanding an answer. She let out a shaky breath, "Let’s get this over with."
Islinda would not look at the bed, nor Aldric, avoiding his gaze altogether. There was just something intimate about kissing the dark Fae prince on the enormous bed and she needed to prove that she wasn’t keen on tasting his lips. This was just out of necessity, nothing else.
Aldric, who was kneeling over on the bed, gave Islinda a long look before shaking his head with laughter spilling out of his lips. Does she think this would make any difference? He could make out her heavy breathing and her heart was beginning to beat out of rhythm.
Nor did he want to scare her any further by telling her that he could smell her desire for him. The human was sexually attracted to him - even if she denied it - which was not surprising. He was breathtakingly handsome, a trait he would have to thank his dearest mother for it. At least, that was the one good thing she gave him without hassle - the same face she hated looking at.
Aldric knew the effect he had on the females (sometimes male) and he would have had a long trail of them offering themselves to him every day if they weren’t so scared of his hideous reputation - a reputation he didn’t even commit even half the crimes listed on it.
But of course, there were still the courageous Faeries like Rosalind who needed his body for the pleasure it could provide. Except lately, his taste has been altered and he couldn’t help but crave the annoyingly naive yet lovely human. She was as fierce as a tigress and as cute as a cat.
Weak females were never his type. He had enough darkness inside of him that needed a female, if not as strong as him, but close enough, to handle him. But his little human was not weak, she had claws and he liked when she sunk it into him. He was impervious to the pain. No, he welcomed it. Although her fragility was not all that bad, it was like a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by the strongest.
Moreover, who would be there to save her when she gets into trouble? Of course he, no one else. Not even her lovely Valerie, Aldric mocked in his head. It seems things were going as planned without him even putting things into motion.
Really? A soul swap? Valerie definitely overdid himself this time and made the work easier for him. Islinda’s influence on Valerie was much stronger than Aldric thought and good thing, he had the human in the palm of his hand. Although getting intimate with Islinda was not part of the plan, having fun with the human did not seem like a bad idea. No harm done and he benefits more.
With those thoughts in his head, Aldric dragged himself up to his feet and covered the space between them, showing off the fact he was taller and towered over her.
Islinda noticed his not so subtle act of intimidation and her brows furrowed, she moved a step back, her heart beating hard in her chest. The reality of her decision finally set in, Aldric was about to kiss her. It was not like those other times that he snatched a kiss when she was off guard or happened in the spur of the moment. No, she was clear-headed and it was about to happen.
She shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant, "What are you still waiting for? Kiss me already," Islinda puckered her lips, her hands behind her, trusting them not to come up and cup his face.
"I should be the one saying that, shouldn’t you be kissing me already?" Aldric asked.
"What?!" Islinda shouted, her head reeling. What was he talking about? All the blood in the body must have rushed to her face because her cheeks burned.
"A kiss from you, that is what I want," Aldric said.
"But that was not what you said!" Annoyance shot through her, "You wanted a kiss, simple."
"A kiss from you to me, Islinda," He tilted his head to the side languidly, his electrified gaze boring into hers, "How many times would I teach you to be careful of the phrasing and never leave a loophole when dealing with a Fae?"
Islinda’s jaw dropped to the ground, irritation crawling up her skin. She should have known this wouldn’t be so easy. Not simple at all. Aldric always has her in the palm of his hands where he wants her to be. And looking at the arrogant confidence on his face only irked her.
"Ah-ah," Aldric shook a finger in her face, stopping the thought that popped in her head and reflected on her face, "Trust me, you don’t want to find out what happens when you back out of an agreement with a Fae unamiably." He emphasized the last word.
Islinda sighed with both exasperation and exhaustion. All she wanted was a good night’s sleep, not this. Islinda was not a crybaby, but she swore to God, if Aldric popped up another surprise, she would burst out in tears.
"Fine, I’ll do it. I’ll be the one initiating the kiss as you want." Her words were etched with anger, glaring at the smug.
"Good choice, kitty," He called and annoyance flared inside of her at the sound of the pet name.
However, Aldric exaggerated his eagerness by rubbing his lips together and producing a smacking sound. But Islinda zoned in on his moisturized lips and froze. It looked delectable and she wanted to bite down on his lush bottom lip.
Fuck!
What was she thinking?
Aldric said with glee, "Now kiss me, Islinda."
