Chapter 192: Aldric Was An Illegitimate son

The Fae’s were serious about preserving their knowledge, Islinda could tell by the way the ancient book was properly maintained. There was not a stain on it nor a page torn off or replaced and if there was anything Islinda enjoyed about the book, it was the illustration.

The pictures were vivid and almost seemed to be alive with the way the figures moved and struck poses. Islinda was left gobsmacked, how was this even possible? What wretched magic could create this?

Perhaps, it was the perfect picture that helped her study several lineages that were none of her business. The genealogy book was a bit difficult for Islinda to comprehend at first considering it spanned many generations. There were several records of High lords, princes, and princesses, King’s and Queen’s from several Fae courts; she had no idea who they were and their relationship with Aldric.

But the further she skimmed through the pages, it dawned on her that it wasn’t until several years later that the kingdom of Astaria was formed. It was just high Faeries managing their courts all by themselves before the unification.

Soon enough, Islinda saw the page depicting King’s Oberon genealogy and was interested. The king with his features was obviously from the Winter Court and was a nobody. However, he was a strong warrior and so adept at using his abilities that he was lucky enough to settle down with the Spring court princess at that time who had fallen completely in love with him.

The spring court princess was no other than Queen Nirvana, and though Islinda had not met her, learning she was Theodore’s mother didn’t leave her thrilled at all. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. If Theodore behaved that way towards her, she sure doesn’t have high hopes for the mother either.

Studying further, it turned out that King Oberon’s life changed after he married the Spring Princess Nirvana and his fame began to spread across the courts. He won several wars, especially against the dark Faeries and the monsters in the Tamry forest.

Soon enough several courts began to seek him out, especially the Autumn court which was most wrecked by the monsters. In exchange for helping them defeat their enemies, the current king at that time gave him his daughter’s hand in marriage. Thus, Princess Victoria married his Highness Oberon, at the same, Princess Nirvana took in and conceived the first son, Theodore, solidifying her position in the harem.

It was not exactly unheard of Faeries engaging in polygamous marriages, however, most detested the headaches that came with managing a harem. Not to mention finding your true mate was a blessing, so why ruin it?

Perhaps, it was the pride that came with having the Autumn princess as his consort, but Oberon’s dream of unifying the courts came about. He was literally controlling two of the major Fae courts: Spring and Autumn courts.

For a hundred years, he chased his goal of unifying the courts which were rejected by many. It had never been done. Although a few of their ancestors had attempted the same move, it just didn’t work out. While all courts were almost the same, they still had varying practices and magic. His dream was almost impossible until the summer Queen Maeve requested a marriage alliance with him.

After the death of the summer king, his daughter, Princess Maeve took over. The Summer Court and Winter Court were the strongest court at that period and conquering both would give Oberon the power he needed to create the unification. The high lords and elders of the summer court kicked against the idea, however, Queen Maeve was ambitious and had seen the bigger picture.

She was no longer satisfied with being just the summer Queen, she wanted to be the Queen of all Faes. Other rumors suggested she was so enamored with Oberon, that she practically handed her court on a platter of gold to him. She finally got what she wanted and married the Fae of her dreams. At that time, the Autumn princess conceived and gave birth to her second son, Andre.

With three of the main Fae courts on his side, nothing was stopping Oberon from getting what he wanted. Although the Winter court refused to give in to his whims, as a winter Fae, he naturally garnered supporters. Just as in the human realm, some Fae wanted to benefit from him.

The Winter Queen Nova - after the tragic death of her father - stood her ground against Oberon’s proposal. The Fae Courts were different and unique for a purpose, she was against unification. Oberon left the spring court where he took residence and journeyed to the winter court to convince her and that was where everything changed.

Although King Oberon never admitted it, evidence gathered hinted that the Winter Queen was his true mate. It was quite unfortunate that Oberon had three powerful princesses he could not chase away and give up on his dream of unifying the courts. Thus, the winter Queen’s defenses were pulled down and her cold heart melted by her one true mate.

Browsing through the pages, Islinda came across the live picture of Valerie and her heart skipped a beat. She quickly stole a guilty glance at Aldric and the Fae in question was engrossed in a book she had not noticed earlier. Islinda was relieved, although she frowned, wondering why she felt guilty. She had done anything wrong.

In the picture, Valerie struck a confident pose with his arms wrapped across his chest and a teasing wink. A smile unconsciously curved Islinda’s lips and she traced his features with a longing look in her eyes. As she was relishing the photo, Islinda did not get to see Aldric watching her action, yet the dark prince did not say anything and turned the other way, a dark look in his eyes.

After minutes of staring at Valerie’s picture and studying his obvious genealogy, Islinda turned to the next page and nearly cursed out aloud. Unlike Valerie’s charming picture, Aldric’s had a cold expression and he almost seemed to be glaring.... at her.

It was weird.

Islinda ignored his odd picture - even Theodore had been handsome in his - and went through his genealogy and was close to moving on when she froze.

Wait a minute....

King Oberon and Queen Nova are his parents. But then, both parents are Winter Faeries, how was that possible? She had spoken to Maxi and for one to be a dark Fae, one or both parents had to be.....

No way....

Aldric was an illegitimate son.....?!

What in the Fae....
