Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 177: Friends From Now On
Chapter 177: Friends From Now On
"Do tell Rosalind, who made you the speaker for all Faeries in this castle?" Aurelia questioned her with a stern and intimidating aura while Rosalind looked around nervously like a rat caught by humans and was about to be sent to the land of the great beyond.
Aurelia was a sweet and kind Fae, so the sudden darkened expression on her face seemed out of place. Rosalind probably didn’t see this interrogation coming and had no time to brace herself or come up with an excuse since a Fae can’t lie.
Moreover, she was not as shrewd and cunning as her lover, Prince Aldric. There was a saying in the human realm that birds of a feather flock together, Islinda guessed Rosalind was a chicken, not a bird. Because Aldric’s shamelessness did not rub off on her at all.
"I thought I was making the best decision for everyone." She answered nervously, fiddling with her hands which became cold and clammy.
"Exactly, my question, Rosalind. Who gave you the right to make such decisions for all of us?" Aurelia pressed on the issue, determined to get an answer.
Rosalind looked at Lizy and the other Fae with a helpless expression, but none of them could assist her. And try as hard as she could, Rosalind could not maneuver her way out of it.
Islinda seeing her pitiful situation decided to step in and said, "I think it was not her intention to -"
Aurelia interrupted her, "I believe I didn’t ask for your opinion, yet, my lady," Though she sounded polite, the cold and disapproving look Aurelia gave Islinda made her press her lips together and she suddenly felt like a fool for intervening. It seems Aurelia’s mind was not easily changed this time.
Rosalind was better left answering the query alone.
"I’m sorry!" Rosalind cried out suddenly and fell on her knees, her face to the ground. She poured out her grievance to Aurelia, lifting her head to say, "She’s an ordinary human, yet the prince treats her as if she’s something special."
"She is something special!" Aurelia retorted instantly with so much intensity that her voice echoed across the wall and Islinda was left dumbfounded.
She was special? Her face was full of confusion and she let it show. How was she special? Because she’s Valerie’s past lover? Being the crown prince’s ex-lover, does it entail such respect in the Fae realm that even Aldric has to treat her well? Islinda had so many questions with few answers. It was slightly confusing.
"The fact that she is Prince Aldric’s guest makes her special or have you forgotten that any disrespect towards her is a slap on the face of the prince or have you forgotten that?" Aurelia lectured her and guessing from the way Rosalind paled, Islinda figured out that she spoke the truth.
While Rosalind was facing Aurelia’s wrath, Islinda experienced inner turmoil. Wasn’t she a prisoner? Why was Aldric treating her this way? Was he extending basic courtesy or was she too vital to his plan, he couldn’t afford even a hair on her body to go missing? Islinda couldn’t figure out his true intention.
Aurelia continued, "She’s a human and so what? Is she an animal or does she have a contagious disease you decide to isolate her when she only wants to get to know our kind better? Or are you one of those racist Fae’s, do tell, because such a Fae has no place working in this Castle?" She admonished her.
"Of course not! I am not a racist Fae!" Rosalind was so scared of being chased out of Aldric’s castle that she would rather grovel and beg for forgiveness at Islinda’s feet even if it hurt her pride.
Rosalind did not doubt Aurelia’s words because Aldric had given her the power to manage the castle and that included the Faeries working here. Aurelia fired old workers and hired new ones at will. As much as she was his lover, Rosalind knew the Aldric prince too well, he was too callous to respond to such trivial issues.
He would probably find her replacement when he’s unable to get his need fulfilled. And while he claimed Islinda was his guest, she has seen the way Aldric looks at her and Rosalind was afraid the human would steal her spot. Rosalind was not stupid to think she was anything special more than his lover, but she would rather occupy his bed and would not let anyone else come between them.
It’s not like Aldric could get a mate anyway. No high fae female in their right mind would want to settle down with the cursed prince, not even for an arranged marriage where each would benefit from it. That was how doomed Aldric fate was. And it was a far-stretched fantasy to think he would find his true mate either.
Perhaps, Aldric would realize centuries later that she has always been by his side and he would finally take her for his mate. Rosalind did not care how long it took, she was a Fae after all and time was all she had, unlike a certain human who would die in a span of a few years.
Rosalind crawled over to Islinda, nearly startling her, and rubbed her palms together, begging her desperately, " I am so sorry, my lady. I didn’t know what came over me and I must have lost my mind for a moment there."
She reached for her hand and held onto her so tight it was practically impossible for Islinda to withdraw it, "You want a girl’s night, right? We can make it happen, today. No, we can be friends from now on. I don’t mind anymore."
Islinda frowned down at Rosalind’s sudden change in attitude toward her. She sensed the Fae was only being apologetic so she wouldn’t be kicked out and not because she was being sincerely nice to her. Moreover, she did not want any more friendship with her, not when she has shown her true nature. Moreover, she has Maxi now.
"Fine, I forgive you," Islinda said so she could let her go, her hand was beginning to hurt in her grip.
She turned to Rosalind and interceded for her sake, "Just let it be, everyone makes mistakes and it’s not compulsory to be friends with anyone. I’m cool with it."
"Fine, if you say so. She can stay." Aurelia agreed at last.
"Thank you!" Rosalind got up to her feet and pulled Islinda into a hug that knocked the breath out of her lungs.
Islinda hugged her back awkwardly, having no idea how to react to this new friendship? .
Perhaps, this was not so bad after all, she still needed her help in stealing Aldric’s medallion.
