Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 174: Played For A Fool

Chapter 174: Played For A Fool

Issac should have known that when he encouraged Aldric to have other hobbies that excluded killing others, he would end up being his errand Fae. He underestimated the dark prince’s passion for his work and now has to perform the menial task because Prince Aldric was paranoid.

Some of the items on the lists were fragile and required extreme care, and only Issac understood what they meant to Aldric - and he could easily punish him if he failed. But that was not the end because some of the goods were banned too but Issac had the network to purchase them in secret. That is to say, Issac was the perfect Fae for the work.

He left the castle and was on his way to meet with one of his contacts he trusted and had arranged a meeting with. He exchanged pleasantries with some of the Faeries on his path and walked for a while when he had this eerie feeling of being watched.

A normal Fae would have thought twice about it, but not Issac. He was a warrior who honed his skills for centuries and trusting his instinct has kept him alive for so long. He kept on with his walk but his senses were very much on alert now.

It hit him at that moment that it was not a coincidence that the pathway was suddenly so lonely when it was usually busy with Faeries going about their business. His senses were stretched out, as he tried to feel what the problem was and who was responsible for this.

His ears perked up at the latest sound and the instant he felt a swift temperature change, he moved away on time only for fire magic to hit the spot he had been previously standing on. Issac looked at the scorched land with a complicated gaze, cold sweat forming between his brows, and the instant he saw the identity of his attacker, he knew that he was truly fucked.

Derek came into view and he shot Issac a look of disdain, "To think that you’re a summer Fae makes this even more embarrassing. Your loyalty should be with the crown prince Valerie, but I’m not surprised considering you’re part autumn fae. This is why intermarriages between courts should be banned." He said in disapproval.

Issac answered him," It’s not like I have a choice on who to serve. If you have a problem with that, why don’t you pick it up with the king who gave me to Prince Aldric? I would appreciate the freedom too. " He hinted he wanted to be free.

Derek scoffed, "I think it’s too late for that."

And thus, he launched into an attack by sending a wave of fire at Issac who countered it, the force of the impact pushing him back a bit. As a summer Fae, it meant Issac could manipulate the fire element but compared to a full-fledged summer Fae like Derek, his powers were not powerful enough.

That was the problem with being a mixed breed between courts, it was as if their powers were confused about which traits to take on. Issac could use both fire magic and a bit of air magic which were common with Autumn Fae’s even though they were mostly known for shapeshifting into animals.

Most mixed breeds were stuck with traits attuned to a particular court and might not be able to explore the other court’s magic they possess. Only a few gifted mixed Fae could explore both court’s magic and of which Issac was one. His father was a powerful summer Fae after all, and it was not surprising he took after him.

Hence Issac was able to fight against Derek and they were evenly matched. While Derek went on the offensive from the very start, Issac continued with his defensive attack sensing the Fae do not mean to kill but incapacitate him. So the fight dragged on for too long and that was when Issac realized his mistake.

Derek did not come alone and Issac’s attention was divided between both - the new Fae attempted a sneak attack on him. But then, Issac had been fighting for too long that it was not surprising he was eventually overpowered, and the next thing he knew, darkness overtook him.

Issac woke to the familiar face of Prince Valerie hovering over him and he swallowed knowing that he was in trouble. He attempted to move only to realize that his hands were shackled to the walls and so were his feet. Nor was the environment familiar to him and something told him it was not the palace. It must be the summer prince’s property.

"It’s nice to see you again, Issac," Prince Valerie said politely, but he could sense the coldness and menace in his voice. The prince was pleased to see him for the wrong reasons.

At that moment, Issac recalled the way he fooled him in the human realm, all thanks to Aldric and he cursed inwardly. He always knew he would not go scot-free for this and it finally happened. Valerie was going to end his life. Damn it! This was not the way he envisioned he would die.

"My prince," Issac still greeted him even though he was staring death in the face.

But Valerie laughed at his action, "You knew from the start that I was your prince and yet you dared to fool me?!" He thundered at the end, glaring at him.

Issac lowered his head, "I am sorry, my prince. I never intended to play you for a fool but I had no choice. Prince Aldric is my master now. So even if you decide to kill me, it changes nothing. However, I would try my best to make it up to you if I can."

Valerie’s eyes shone with a glint and he said with a curl of his lips, "Oh, trust me, there is a way that you can make it up to me and you don’t even have a choice. "

Isaac’s brows furrowed deeply, the fact that he wouldn’t have a choice meant that it was dangerous and he didn’t like it. For starters, he had a nagging feeling he would have to betray Aldric, which would not bound well for him.

Nonetheless, he asked, "What do you want from me, Prince Valerie?"

Valerie stated, "Thanks to your deceit, I lost the chance to be with Islinda but there is a way to remedy that and that is why I need a lock of Islinda’s hair and you would get that for me."

"A lock of Islinda’s hair? What do you want to do with it?" Issac asked to be sure he was not bringing harm to her. Betraying Aldric was one thing but harming an innocent human was something he wouldn’t do even if it cost him his life.

Valerie smirked and did not answer him out loudly. Instead, he leaned over and whispered into his ears, causing Issac’s eyes to widen.

"No, you can’t do that to her. She has to know."

"As much as you’re right, I cannot afford Islinda panicking and alerting Aldric of my plans. Don’t worry she would understand my intentions later and would forgive me because we love each other." He added, "And also, you would not be able to betray me again either."

Valerie’s smile hinted he had measures in place.

This time, Aldric would be the one who would be played for a fool.
