Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 162: Nothing But Human

Chapter 162: Nothing But Human

Freedom had never felt so good!

At first, Islinda thought Aldric was bluffing when he said he wouldn’t be available for dinner, however, it hit her that the dark prince had no reason to lie about that considering he was incapable of lying in the first place as a Fae. Why would he lie about dinner anyway? To prank her?

No, that sounded too low, even for Aldric.

Also, after Aldric left, Islinda found out that the book he had been holding on to didn’t revert to the Fae language. At first, Islinda believed that her eyes were deceiving her and didn’t want to get her hopes high again only to be dashed into pieces. So she left the book alone and stared at it suspiciously for over ten minutes before opening it and truly, it was understandable.

"What the hell is this?" Islinda had a furrowed brow on her face instead of being excited at the outcome. Why was Aldric being magnanimous all of a sudden? It was the only readable book out of the pile on her table and Islinda couldn’t help but feel like this was a bribe.

Like a master distracting his pet from following after him, Islinda sensed Aldric was doing something else behind her back. The book he unlocked was just to keep her occupied and distracted. So why should she be grateful? All of the books should have been in English anyway, but no, the Fae simply took joy in tormenting her life.

Asshole.

In one word, Islinda sat back and enjoyed her limited freedom, immersed in the fiction book Aldric left her. Aurelia arrived sometime later to deliver delicious snacks to her since she had missed out on lunch while touring the library and it wouldn’t be long before dinner was served.

Peace of mind was so underrated and Islinda has not had this much recess since arriving here. It was one drama after the other. So when Rosalind arrived to draw her bath, she decided to take things up a notch.

"You say what?"

"Can we have a girl’s night?"

"A g-girls night?" Rosalind looked at her as if suddenly horns grew on her head.

"I mean...." Islinda scratched the back of her head awkwardly as she launched into an explanation, "It’s kind of a female-only social gathering and we have fun with the others, I guess?" She grinned hopefully.

Islinda was not even sure of her plans, the idea had hit her out of nowhere. Not to mention, she did not have time for such activity back in the human realm and most of her knowledge came from seeing and hearing her late step-sisters talk about it. Lillian and Remy loved to party and they often attended social events sometimes even without being invited.

"Of course, I know what a female-only social gathering is, my lady," Rosalind said, and though she sounded polite, her cold glance said it all.

Call it a woman’s sixth sense but Islinda figured out Rosalind was threatened by her presence. Why wouldn’t she? Fae or not, females were jealous creatures and Rosalind must think she was interested in Aldric. If only she knew it was the opposite. Although they’d kissed - she didn’t need to know that - it was a mistake that would never happen again.

Aldric was not and would never be her type. Promise!

She shrugged, "I just thought to create a night of pampering, food, soothing music, and lots of dancing. We can even turn it into a sleepover -"

"I’m sorry but that’s not going to happen," Rosalind cut her off, only remembering to add in the end, "My lady."

The excitement faded away from Islinda’s face the same way a dark cloud passed over a moon.

"Why?" Islinda frowned, believing Rosalind was being difficult on purpose.

"What?"

"Exactly, why isn’t that going to happen, Rosalind? Give me a reason why." She asked sternly.

Perhaps, it was the way she came on too strong but Rosalind was flustered by it.

"B-because... because..." She struggled to come up with a reason.

"Because of what, Rosalind?"

"We are busy, my lady!" She burst out, "You don’t just expect us to leave our duties, all to fulfill your obligation of a girl’s night."

Islinda tried to explain to her, "It’s not an obligation, I just thought to give the girls time away from the pressures of -"

"We don’t need your help, okay?!" Rosalind snapped at her and Islinda was taken aback by her outburst.

This was the first time Rosalind was raising her voice on her and something told her the Fae didn’t feel one bit apologetic. It was as if she had been waiting for this opportunity to show off her true nature.

But then, Islinda was stubborn and now she confirmed Rosalind didn’t like her, she was all the more determined to carry out that girl’s night.

She told her, "Or maybe you’re the one who doesn’t need my help. Perhaps, I should talk to Aurelia and see if I’m obstructing duties or not?!" Her eyes were defiant and she was already heading toward the door when Rosalind yelled,

"Who do you even think you are?!"

Islinda halted in her step, turning around to stare at Rosalind with narrowed eyes. What’s with the change in her tone? The disrespect was obvious.

Rosalind in question approached her without any pretense, glaring at her with unbridled abhorrence.

"What?" Islinda stared back at her, trying hard not to get intimidated by the Fae.

"You would talk to Aurelia, huh? Is that it?" Rosalind scoffed, finding her confidence laughable, "Who do you think you are? Just because we call you my lady, do you think you’re something special? Well, let me remind you what you are, my lady," She said, her words dripping with sarcasm.

"You are nothing but a human that I could easily snuff out your life without even trying hard. And the moment Prince Aldric is done with his plans, you would find out that your place in Astaria is at the bottom. So I suggest you don’t overexert yourself, put your head down, and enjoy this privilege while it still lasts. Do you get it now?"

Islinda did not answer, rather her feet were stuck to the ground and her mouth was parted from the shock. Who knew Rosalind hated her this much? Well, Islinda could not exactly blame her. Imagine serving a creature you deemed as inferior, she could understand where her anger came from.

Moreover, Rosalind was right. What gave her the right to make such demands? Sure, her intentions were pure but she was no different from a prisoner here. She must have gotten a little carried away with the preferential treatment.

"Yes, you’re right, I get it now," Islinda told her, sounding dejected while a smile crossed Rosalind’s features, although she hid it.

"That is why your services are dismissed. You can leave my room now. I don’t need you drawing my bath anymore, you can send another Fae willing to serve a human." Islinda said, disappointing her expectations.

Rosalind’s jaw fell to the ground, humiliated. That was not the kind of response she expected to hear.

Islinda said to her with her head lifted proudly," I would gladly enjoy the privilege while it lasts. " She had the last word.

And there went her plans of befriending Rosalind...
