Chapter 883: Chapter 582: The Most Unpopular Person (Three More)
Mu Lin had stayed in the Military Hospital for five days since she gave birth, when, in fact, she didn’t need to stay so long. Three or four days would have been sufficient to go home. However, Elder Zhou and Elder Mei thought it was best to stay a couple more days—better to rest a little longer before moving back home for the postpartum recovery period.
After all, one could not be too careful with a body that had just given birth.
Without refusal, Elder Jing finally decided to stay for seven or eight days before leaving. After all, the VIP ward was spacious and comfortable, even though it was a bit of a hassle to come and go frequently.
Today was the sixth day, morning; Jing Chen had already returned to the military base and wouldn’t be back until the evening. Gu Muqing had also gone back to work. The two elders hadn’t arrived yet, so aside from Gong Muxue, there was no one else here.
In the evening, it was Jing Chen who kept her company, but during the day, it was usually Gong Muxue who arrived first.
Being the weekend, it was likely that Gong Yu and the others would visit in the afternoon.
But before any of the expected guests had arrived, someone who should not be there appeared in front of Mu Lin, carrying two items that completely mismatched his status. He was currently looking at Mu Lin with a smile brimming with intent.
Mu Lin recognized them as the gift boxes she had seen when she and Gu Muqing went to the mall to buy clothes for the baby. Gu Muqing had purchased one as well.
He... couldn’t have bought them that day, could he? Just the thought seemed impossible.
"What are you doing here?" Upon seeing Mi Zheng, Mu Lin’s delicate eyebrows furrowed, her gaze wary as she stared at him.
As far as Mu Lin was concerned, Mi Zheng’s appearance usually meant no good.
"I’m here to see how you’re doing," Mi Zheng lifted the small gift boxes to his own eye level, swaying them in front of Mu Lin, "See, I even brought gifts. You wouldn’t be unwelcoming, would you?" Unfortunately, her being unwelcoming was of no consequence; after all, Mu Lin had never welcomed him before.
After speaking, he placed the gift aside carelessly and then looked around, "Why don’t I see your baby?" He searched around, curiosity evident on his exquisite face, "I’m really curious to see what your baby looks like. I bet they’re beautiful." His lips curled up in a teasing smile, his tongue tracing his lip with a seductive chill.
"It’s none of your business," Mu Lin replied coolly, her aura icy. She had some trouble grasping this man’s thoughts; he always seemed odd to her.
Sometimes, she felt he lived even more freely than she did.
However, Mi Zheng looked at Mu Lin, "Relax, I’m not going to harm your child." These words were a sort of assurance to Mu Lin. Then, he smiled and added, "Of course, it would be even better if it were my child with you." What a pity.
A flash of regret crossed Mi Zheng’s face.
Such a pity, indeed.
But just because there wasn’t one now didn’t mean there wouldn’t be one in the future, right?
He was quite looking forward to it, with considerable anticipation.
With a cold snort, Mu Lin remained silent.
Just then, Gong Muxue and a doctor came back holding two children. Seeing Mi Zheng, a flicker of surprise crossed Gong Muxue’s face. She frowned slightly, pondering, "You are... Mi Zheng." Since she wasn’t familiar with him, Gong Muxue took a moment to recall who he was.
She had only seen Mi Zheng a few times: once during her father’s birthday banquet with a mere glance—observing from the background, this man appeared delicate, projecting an aura of languid carelessness throughout the event.
The second time was at Mu Lin and Jing Chen’s wedding. That instance gave Gong Muxue a different impression of him. But what struck her the most was that Mi Zheng was... genuinely handsome, with the air of a male fox spirit.
Cough cough, she was just a bit at a loss for words to describe him; indeed, more delicate-looking than many women. There were probably not many men in the world who could compare to him.
Since the Gong Family had a fairly good relationship with the Mi Family, Gong Muxue had no reason to be on guard around Mi Zheng. Instead, she was curious, "What brings you here?" She hadn’t heard about her Linlin being friends with him; in Gong Muxue’s mind, aside from those she knew, Linlin hardly had any other friends.
Gong Muxue glanced at Mu Lin and then shifted her gaze back to Mi Zheng.
"Auntie Gong," as a member of the Mi Family, he was a peer to Mu Lin, so it was only natural for him to address Gong Muxue as "auntie," "I heard Linlin had a baby, and as a friend, I thought I should come and see how she’s doing, as well as her baby—must be quite beautiful." He said the word ’friend’ with a suggestive raise of his eyebrows, the curve of his lips ambiguous.
