Chapter 850: Chapter 565: Mu Lin Arrives (Third Update)
Armed to the teeth, Xue Jianbing grabbed a bottle from the side and smeared a bit of its contents onto his skin before casually handing it to Jing Youlan and the others.
"What’s this?" someone asked, a puzzled expression on their face.
"Blue mercury lotion, for shark repellent—don’t forget, we have to swim across the ocean." In the sea, while it’s not guaranteed you’ll encounter sharks, you had better be prepared for the worst; Xue Jianbing didn’t seem too patient as he explained, advising: "Just apply it to any exposed skin."
He didn’t want to be dragged down by anybody else.
Xue Jianbing only knew about this because he had seen it before and Xue Rui had told him; it was only when he saw it again that he knew what to do.
Xue Rui had already switched from the army to the navy and now was hardly ever at home throughout the year; of course, another reason was the peace and quiet.
The emperor is far away, and nobody can interfere.
Indeed, as army personnel, it’s quite normal not to be familiar with some naval things; after all, they had not been trained in this area.
Everyone nodded and hurriedly finished the job, then gathered together once more.
During the preparation, many had started stuffing their faces with eggs and other food from their bags—out of hunger; they wouldn’t have the strength to swim soon, especially since they were each carrying about more than ten pounds of weight.
Just the thought made them feel like their upcoming journey was absolutely murderous.
And that was the truth—it definitely was life-threatening.
Jing Youlan said he probably swam more today than he had in his entire life combined. Just how far had they swum already? He really felt like he was going to pass out!
Looking back, Forest Island, which had nearly killed them with exhaustion, now appeared tiny. But looking ahead... um... it seemed like there was still nothing in sight.
No end, no sight of the shore.
It was sheer despair, and his heart felt so tired.
"I can’t do this; I really can’t swim anymore," someone said weakly, lying atop a flotation bag.
"Then let’s take a brief rest," Ji Shubai suggested. They needed to catch their breath, or the constant swimming would be... really... exhausting.
It would probably only cause more trouble later on, especially for the girls.
All the boys were already at their limit, the girls were likely struggling even more.
Jing Youlan looked back and nodded.
They took a short break.
Though they weren’t the furthest ahead, they weren’t the last either, which was already good enough; and all of their group of more than ten people had kept up, even the annoying Xue Jianbing.
The brief rest was just to brace themselves for the long road ahead.
"If only a wave could just carry us back to the beach," Yang Yuebin daydreamed as he lay there, his lips slightly upturned at the thought, which was indeed a pleasant one.
Xue Jianbing: "Sure, we’ll go ahead, and you just wait here. If Lady Luck favors you, your dream might come true. Then you can carry us back with you." It really was a nice dream.
Yang Yuebin gave Xue Jianbing a disdainful look and decided to save his energy for breathing instead of arguing with him.
He really wanted to throw off the stuff on his back; he thought he might be able to swim a bit faster that way.
Unfortunately, that too remained just a dream, unattainable.
His heart was still so tired.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Sitting leisurely on a yacht, surrounded by fruits and snacks, they were truly in stark contrast to Jing Youlan and the others below them... they were just having the time of their lives.
Munching on snacks and chatting away, their eyes, nevertheless, never left those swimming below.
After all, they were responsible for their safety and had to be vigilant of any potential threats nearby.
"Fatty, what do you say, want to make another bet?" Thousand-Mile Eye said, his face brimming with a smile. Unfortunately, Second Fatty just glanced at him indifferently, "Not interested."
"Don’t you want to get out of our one-month sock deal?" he teased, coaxing like a fox luring Little Red Riding Hood, "That’s a whole month’s worth of socks, you know."
Tsk, tsk, tsk... he almost felt sympathy for him, having to endure the stench for a month.
Oh, what a pity.
"You two are really bored," Wu Ya commented from the side, listening to their conversation with a look of disbelief, "You’d actually bet on such a thing." If the Boss found out, they would likely be punished by having to swim around here themselves.
