Chapter 830: Chapter 552: What Are Brothers? Can You Eat Them? (Third Update)_2

Somewhere along the line, her head had fallen asleep atop it, and she had used it as a pillow all night long.

When Mu Lin opened those cool, clear eyes, the first thing she saw was Jing Chen’s large palm.

She turned around subconsciously, "You’re back." She was surprised because, according to her, he shouldn’t have been able to return last night.

In truth, Mu Lin had no idea what time Jing Chen had returned last night. After becoming pregnant, and because she was at the Jing household, her once vigilant guard slowly dissipated.

Of course, only at the Jing household.

But now, her reflexes had really... Never mind.

"Mmm." Jing Chen looked at Mu Lin with a gentle smile, "Did you sleep well? Did the baby kick you?"

"Not bad, he’s been good." Mu Lin nodded, her lips curving upward involuntarily when she spoke of the child, lingered in bed a little while longer, then wiggled a bit, trying to sit up. Jing Chen immediately sat up and supported her with his unnumbed hand, "Be careful."

Without a word, Mu Lin reached out and pulled Jing Chen’s left hand over, gently pressing on it, "Don’t put your hand under my head next time, aren’t you afraid of blood clotting from the pressure?" Having it used as a pillow all night could hinder blood circulation, which wouldn’t be good for the arm’s function in the long run.

The occasional night wouldn’t have an impact, but if it were every night, that would be serious.

Mu Lin carefully massaged the acupoints on his arm.

"I’ll change after you give birth to the baby," Jing Chen said, looking at Mu Lin who seemed reproachful, yet also distressed for him, his smile exceptionally blissful.

Because Mu Lin only felt most at peace when she slept with her head on his arm; so...

Jing Chen, too, was gradually growing fond of these peaceful days.

A wife, a child, then raise a dog, raise a bird, a quiet life.

Unfortunately, such a life is probably still a decade or two away; only when he retires, or steps back behind the scenes, will there be a chance.

While he longed for such a life, it did not mean Jing Chen had forgotten the responsibilities he carried on his shoulders.

With blood circulation restored and the stiffness in his hand dissipating, Jing Chen pulled Mu Lin into his arms, his large hand on her belly, feeling the baby’s movements, his smile content, "Madam, it must have been hard." Yet he still felt a pang of distress.

Mu Lin shook her head, "Actually, it’s not too bad; I’m just really not used to being clumsier in the beginning." It was indeed a genuine discomfort.

After a pause, Mu Lin continued, "Chen, I think I now understand why mom said I would gradually get it." She was slowly understanding what it meant to be a mother.

Ten months of pregnancy, from the cluelessness of the first month to now slowly experiencing a mother’s heartache.

Now you might be qualified to be a mother; whether you’re up to the mark, however, will need to be verified over the next dozen or so, or even many more years.

Seeing Mu Lin, Jing Chen’s smile grew even gentler, his chin resting on Mu Lin’s head, "Mmm." His low voice carried boundless contentment.

He got up, helped Mu Lin wash and change clothes, kissed her swollen belly affectionately, a beautiful and tender scene.

Some time passed, and the couple went downstairs.

"When did Xiaochen get back?" The elder Mr. Jing seemed a bit surprised to see Jing Chen.

"I got back early this morning," Jing Chen said while he helped Mu Lin to her seat and arranged breakfast for her.

Smoothly.

Over the past months, Jing Chen had done this countless times; as long as he wasn’t away on a mission. So often, Mu Lin really was being waited on hand and foot to the point of being pampered plump.

If it had been in the past, Jing Chen would normally have slept in the small wooden cabin at the troop camp, but now that Mu Lin was at home, he would return no matter how late or far, just so he could hold her as she slept, to make her more comfortable, to accompany her for breakfast.

Looking at the couple before him, the elder Mr. Jing’s eyes filled with exceptional satisfaction.

Now, whether it was Mu Lin or his grandson, both seemed much more human than before, completely transformed from their former selves.

His little grandson, truly, was a lucky child.

Military Area forces.

"Captain, this is the list of personnel from all the military camps who wish to join Ying Sun," Black Shark handed over the orderly list of detailed profiles to Jing Chen.

These were the people who would undergo his assessment in the future, and there were quite a few of them.

Receiving the list, Jing Chen casually flipped through it, "How are they?" His voice was calm and indifferent, completely lacking the warmth he had at home with Mu Lin; as if they were two different people, this Jing Chen was not that Jing Chen.

Black Shark: "I’ve gotten a rough idea about these people; they are leaders in their respective units, be it in terms of physical skills, abilities, marksmanship, intelligence, including other aspects, they are second to none."

"However, a few of them have character traits that require further observation." A bit too arrogant, lacking in teamwork.

Wanting to join Ying Sun involves more than just good skills, agility, or marksmanship; it’s not that simple.

Jing Chen nodded slightly, "Keep a close watch. That will suffice."

"Yes." There was a slight pause, as if remembering something, "In this batch of candidates, there are a few who used to train with the sister-in-law. It seems that they had made a promise to her that they would join Ying Sun." These dozen or so people were all competent in various areas, not inferior to anyone listed in the documentation.

"I know," Jing Chen’s response was very calm, "Youlan is also among them; just proceed with the normal selection process, don’t go easy on them; whether they can make it into Ying Sun depends only on their own abilities," unrelated to anything else.
