Mated at First Sight -
Chapter 695 - 458
Chapter 695: 458
"Are you sure there’s no need to thoroughly check it?"
When travelling, the most common object that people tamper with is food. Given Mu Lin’s identity, Zhan Zhong thought it would be safer to leave this task to her. However, Mu Lin casually put the meals aside and did nothing further, not even making a show of checking them.
It was just too...casual!
Upon hearing his words, Mu Lin merely smirked at him, "Even a silver needle doesn’t compare to the sensitivity of my nose." This was her confidence, not arrogance.
Mu Lin looked at him, her eyes cold and indifferent, "Zhan, haven’t you heard that some poisons can’t be detected even by a silver needle? If I were to poison someone, I would do it so subtly that you wouldn’t notice anything, even if the target were to die."
The ultimate conclusion would be, it was a natural death, an unexpected disease, a sudden demise, and it would leave no trace. Even if they had suspicions, they wouldn’t find any evidence to prove she had poisoned her target.
Upon hearing this, Zhan Zhong was shocked. He felt that Mu Lin was audacious enough to say anything. Yet inexplicably, he felt that she wasn’t joking.
This reminded Zhan Zhong of Mu Lin’s identity. Right, he had almost forgotten that before she became a military doctor, she had more than one reputation.
The little divine doctor in the mouths of the people of B City— or, perhaps, her original title: the Poison Doctor, Mu Lin.
"Let’s eat, I’m hungry." After saying these words, Mu Lin turned away indifferently, ignoring Zhan Zhong. To Mu Lin, Zhan Zhong was too cautious. He would complicate even the simplest things—at least, they were simple to Mu Lin.
But he had no choice, ever since he found out that his own people almost lost their lives due to a slow-acting poison given to them over a decade, he couldn’t help but stay vigilantly concerned due to guilt and fear.
Zhan Zhong never thought that there could be people with ill intentions mixing in his close circle.
It’s not that he didn’t trust Mu Lin. Rather, he now found it hard to easily trust anyone.
Of course, what he thought or whether he believed in her did not matter to Mu Lin.
Mu Lin sat next to Jing Chen again. She had been eating fruit nonstop all the way, either because she was hungry or just bored. So, when Ying Sun’s people heard Mu Lin say she was hungry, they all looked at her without hesitation.
What they really wanted to ask was, where did all the food Mu Lin had been eating go? They were really puzzled.
"Really hungry?" Just as she sat next to Jing Chen, his voice filled with laughter echoed in her ear, with a hint of teasing.
After glancing at his somewhat mocking eyes, Mu Lin answered honestly, "Not bad." She wasn’t actually that hungry.
Jing Chen handed her the chopsticks, "Regardless of whether you’re hungry or not, just eat some." When they reach the next stop for lunch, it probably won’t be that relaxed anymore. But Jing Chen thought that it probably wouldn’t affect Mu Lin much.
After all, she was Mu Lin.
Hearing Jing Chen’s words, Mu Lin nodded and reached out to take the chopsticks. Actually, she didn’t really like plane food, but what was in front of her seemed quite appetizing.
Looks like going out with someone often has its perks.
The afternoon was mostly spent in silence. Leaning on Jing Chen’s shoulder, Mu Lin fell asleep. She had no choice, it was so boring that all she could do was sleep. It was her first time on a plane for so long.
Of course, although this was indeed a mission, Mu Lin was just being Mu Lin. To her, as long as she did what she should, nothing else mattered that much.
Not far away, the people of Ying Sun were whispering.
Their intuition told them that they might be able to give out their red envelopes soon.
They were sure that they weren’t the only ones who had noticed the flashy large diamond ring on their sister-in-law’s hand.
Boss had moved so quickly. It had been less than half a year since he first met their sister-in-law! They had clearly underestimated their boss.
Jing Chen had not yet told his family about his successful proposal, otherwise... Senior Jing would have probably started making preparations already.
What preparations?
Of course... for the wedding.
Jing Chen thought perhaps after this mission, he could ask his beloved what kind of wedding she wanted.
...
At precisely twelve o’clock, the plane finally arrived at the airport in Country E. An elder was already waiting there personally at that time.
As the elder disembarked from the plane, he and Vasily shared a firm handshake. Both of their faces were full of friendly and happy smiles.
"How many years has it been since we last met?" Vasily held the elder’s hand tightly; he remembered, their last meeting.
Hearing this, the elder chuckled lightly, pondering for a moment, "It’s been about five or six years." Quite a long time indeed.
Vasily nodded, yes indeed.
After exchanging a few words, due to it being noon already, Vasily arranged for them to have their meal first and foremost.
Of course, the same applied to both sides. Before the meal, there would be someone responsible for... taste testing, to guard against any attempts at poisoning.
Near the entrance, two people stood. One of them used a silver needle, while Mu Lin simply glanced over everything.
Apparently, these foreigners use the same method of testing for poison as they do, without any variation.
"Why didn’t you use a silver needle?" The man opposite her asked, looking at Mu Lin questioningly, his curiosity peeking through.
"No need." Mu Lin answered indifferently, pointing at her nose, "This is enough." For her, using her nose was simple and effective.
"How is that possible?" The man seemed to find it unbelievable, "Is that how you test food for your leader?" From his perspective, this whole thing was simply incredulous.
However, Mu Lin simply nodded slowly, "You’re not wrong."
But she just really was tasting the food a second time. Sigh... She was feeling a tad bored and helpless.
Mu Lin wondered to herself when she had become a food tester.
Not only did the other party notice Mu Lin’s unusual manner, even her own people noticed. The elder looked at her, his face showing curiosity. His meaning was clear - our country’s method of testing food is rather special.
The elder looked on fondly, then turned to look at Mu Lin’s calm and beautiful face, "That’s her specialty." Perhaps more accurately, this was actually Mu Lin’s instinct.
Mu Lin’s keen sense of detecting poison wasn’t something ordinary people could comprehend.
"Incredible." Vasily exclaimed; Despite his incredulity, he believed. Not because he trusted in Mu Lin’s abilities, but because he believed that the elder would no way jeopardize his own life. If he said Mu Lin was capable of such a feat, then she certainly was.
From the kitchen all the way here, everything was strictly guarded, and after the dishes arrived in front of Mu Lin and the other man, the servers could not go any further.
As the elder’s close aide, after Mu Lin checked the food, Zhan Zhong personally served it. The same was happening on the other side.
Once all the dishes were served, apart from those standing guard, Mu Lin naturally moved aside and began to eat her own meal.
Having finished her duty as a food tester, she was free to eat. And the people from E Country found her casualness refreshing, as though she were not concerned about anything. Moreover, there was no one here who would dare give her orders or even reprimand her.
They wanted to say that the troops weren’t strict enough, but looking at the Special Forces’ rigorous procedures and the other guards, they couldn’t voice that criticism.
The military, known for its strict discipline and courageous soldiers, especially the Special Forces, were of great renown.
They noticed something though, the insignia on the soldiers’ arms, an unforgettable symbol.
Including the one on Mu Lin, they were particularly curious about how she had joined.
The guards from E Country felt like they didn’t understand these soldiers at all. Except for Mu Lin, all the other soldiers were as rumored, their demeanor was intimidating.
"Where is Chen?" The guards took turns eating. When Xigua and the others sat down next to her, Mu Lin asked.
"The boss said he would keep watch and told us to come and eat first." replied Xigua.
"Oh." Mu Lin nodded casually, not saying much more.
As the captain of the Special Forces, letting his subordinates eat first was a normal thing to do. Jing Chen doing this was absolutely normal in Mu Lin’s eyes.
"Sister-in-law." Suddenly, Xigua looked at Mu Lin and called out.
Mu Lin looked up at him.
"Will you always be with the Special Forces?" This was a question Xigua had always wanted to ask. The others sitting by him also instinctively looked at Mu Lin.
"Why do you ask?" Mu Lin looked puzzled.
"We all know that the reason you joined the Special Forces was due to personal matters." And she had been busy with those matters recently, which was why she was not always at the base. Although she would occasionally return when something major came up.
