Chapter 667: Chapter 439 Human Nature (fourth update)_2
Everything before his eyes seemed disgustingly tainted.
He withdrew his gaze, Mu Lin’s lips curving slightly.
Five minutes passed quickly. As people jostled more intensely, practically at the verge of breaking into a brawl, the light suddenly dimmed once again. All hearts were filled with unease at that moment, and screams of terror rang out. Instinctively, Gong Yu moved to protect Quan Luo beside her, warily sensing her surroundings.
Even though she couldn’t see, she could still feel; she still had the intuition when danger approached.
It was rare for her to use it, but for the first time, Gong Yu was grateful for the Gong Family’s rules; every member of the Gong family, regardless of their ability, had to have a certain degree of skill in literature and martial arts.
Perhaps today, these skills would finally come in handy.
Having seen Mu Lin’s capabilities, Gong Yu wasn’t worried about him at all. Her only concern was for Quan Luo, who was visibly frightened.
She would not let anyone harm her best friend; just like she had been protecting her before, now it was her turn.
Anyone who wanted to harm Luoluo would have to step over her dead body first!
Quan Luo felt moved. Protected by Gong Yu and clutching tightly onto her clothes, she was not afraid. If real danger arose, she would definitely step in front of Little Yuyu.
She would not let anyone harm Little Yuyu.
The darkness was the most terrifying presence, spreading palpable fear and the scent of death in the grand banquet hall.
However, none of these affected Mu Lin.
At the moment the lights dimmed, Mu Lin moved like a cheetah. A fleeting surprise crossed Mi Zheng’s face as he watched him, followed by joy.
Their eyes had something that assisted with night vision, but Mu Lin did not.
Yet, looking at her appearance... The corners of his lips curled up at that moment.
He truly felt that the more he could dig into, the more intriguing aspects about Mu Lin he could uncover... including night vision.
God was indeed not treating her unjustly. He wanted her more and more now.
Mi Zheng thought that he might have to worry about the people under him. His meal was looking to be in jeopardy at that moment.
Perhaps Mu Lin should feel fortunate. When the lights went out, men and women alike instinctively hunched down, protecting their throats. It was the automatic response when one’s life was at stake; as the shock of the previous scene fermented in their minds, it turned into boundless fear.
None of them wanted to die such a horrific death, absolutely not.
But there was nothing they could do; were they all destined to meet their end here today?
They could not accept that.
In the darkness, two figures moved slowly. Mu Lin’s eyes narrowed, and she suddenly appeared right in front of one of them. The dagger in her hand didn’t hesitate to pierce into their vital point, while the other hand didn’t idle about either. With a "bang", a bullet ripped through the night, accurately hitting the other in the heart in an instant.
Their bodies jolted, and both fell to the ground.
They were so fixated on killing that they had forgotten that amongst them were not just killers, but also policemen. A moment of negligence, they lost their lives.
The gunshot sounded, screams intensified. Mu Lin quickly left the crowd to avoid getting swept up in the panic; the blood on her dagger was cleaned off the very moment she pulled it out, and she put it away.
The killer fell, and the lights abruptly turned bright.
Seeing the corpse before them again, everyone quickly retreated to the sides, no longer daring to crowd towards the main gate.
"Congratulations to the prey. The police took action, and the killer was killed. The next time it gets dark, the prey increases to three. Please look forward to it." The cold voice sounded machine-like. Mu Lin’s lips tilted upwards. Despite the calmness, she could still hear the suppressed astonishment in the voice.
It seemed like she had been underestimated.
The announcement ended, and the clamor began.
"Did they just say that the ones who died this time were the killers?" The disbelief was evident, looking at the deceased, a glimmer of relief flashed through their hearts.
"It appears so." Looking at the man and woman who had fallen, anger filled the room. Some even recognized the two as the daughter and young master of a certain company they had been chatting amiably with. Who would’ve thought they were actually the killers?
Fury engulfed them. Some were even so angry that they picked up the daggers and stabbed the bodies again.
Gong Yu and Quan Luo watched the scene in disbelief as they saw the people, one by one, brutally stab the two bodies as if avenging a personal grudge.
Some people were ruthless. Some women already couldn’t bear it and ran off to the side to retch.
The scene before their eyes was simply too nauseating.
One of them was Quan Luo.
Gong Yu patted her back worriedly, but she had been retching for a while without anything coming up. Gong Yu instinctively looked towards Mu Lin. At that moment, Mu Lin was standing alone, indifferently watching the scene unfold before her as if it didn’t concern her at all.
Gong Yu breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she was fine.
It wasn’t until a couple of minutes later that the few people stopped, their bodies stained with blood. No one dared to approach them.
"What are you all scared of?" The trio glared at the crowd and roared, "They almost killed us just now!"
"But they are already dead." A girl retorted, "If you act like this towards them, what’s the difference between you and the killers?" They were only scarier.
"What did you say? You equate us with these scumbags? Say that again if you dare!" Blood-stained and indifferent, he drew close to the girl. The girl retreated in fear, looking helplessly at the crowd for help. Unfortunately, no one from the crowd had plans to step in.
