Chapter 640: Chapter 424 - Rivals, But More So Comrades (Four Updates) _1

When Mu Lin and his party arrived at the training ground of the Seal Team, they suddenly found that the crowd seemed much smaller.

Like the people brought by Jing Chen, there were just about twenty people waiting there. Probably these were the ones selected by Jing Tian for tomorrow’s mission.

Jing Youlan and his group immediately spotted several individuals they had once faced in the field. Former rivals, both sides had almost simultaneously identified their previous adversaries. Smiles graced their faces, showing both friendly and combative intent.

They were comrades, those who had once fought side by side, yet they were also opponents.

The arrival of Jing Youlan and his group was somewhat of a pleasant surprise for the likes of Lin Shan. When Jing Tian announced the task for tomorrow would include soldiers from B City, they had been hoping it would be Jing Youlan’s team. After all, with Mu Lin here, nothing seemed impossible.

Yet, they were unsure. After all, Jing Youlan’s team was fairly new. It seems they had overthought things.

Although they were newcomers, no one could deny their excellence; otherwise, why would they be considered as worthy adversaries?

"Everyone assemble!"

"Right face - align, look forward - at ease!"

Jing Tian stepped forward, addressing everyone. "I believe you all know why we have gathered here today."

"To build up your camaraderie, and... for the morning training, and the afternoon." He gave a slight grin. "This afternoon, you will have the chance to compete with each other; you can challenge any member of the opposing team. When the time comes, show me your strength! Don’t let me down."

This declaration caused everyone’s pupils to unconsciously contract. Many gazes fell on Mu Lin. Some seemed eager to challenge, however, on seeing the chilly statue-like Jing Chen standing beside her, they quickly dismissed the thought.

Indeed, the legendary Jing was just as the rumors depicted. The version they had heard about yesterday was obviously fake.

"Now, everyone is here, to the —— right turn! Let’s start with a warm-up of five kilometers." Their voices echoed unanimously as they started running in perfect unison.

Jing Tian walked over to Jing Youlan, asking Mu Lin through Jing Chen, "Are you not going to join them?"

Mu Lin shook her head lightly. "No." She had worn herself out yesterday. Even though she had taken a Nourishing Pill, last night and this morning had been a little too overwhelming. She decided to skip the running for the day.

Jing: My bad

Actually, the reason why Mu Lin had been getting up early these past few days was simply to prevent her body from getting rusty.

Real-life was quite different from the military camp. Having been away for such a long period, she really felt rusty and believed she needed to do a little bit of grinding.

Jing Tian just chuckled, indicating his understanding. He gave a sidelong look at the natural air conditioner standing next to him.

With the air already cold, why was he still blowing cool air, wasn’t he afraid of freezing his wife?

On the running track,

"Who would have thought that we could have another chance to be on the same mission." Yuan Yu said to Yang Yuebin, his expression greatly excited. "Remember, last time when we faced off, you were still green as grass." He never could have imagined back then that a day like this would come, or that they would get a chance to meet once again.

Hearing this, Yang Yuebin chuckled, "What’s with adding the ’egg’ to the end of ’recruit’?" He’d never asked about this before.

Yuan Yu provided an explanation, "From what I heard from the veterans, it seems it’s because new recruits lack the army’s common knowledge and thus are yet to mature, like eggs waiting to be hatched. That’s why they’re called ’eggs.’ It’s something like that. I also heard that sometimes new recruits call us ’fried dough sticks,’ meaning we old troops have been around so long, we are like over-fried dough sticks." Perhaps they are fried too old.

Hearing this, Yang Yuebin burst into laughter.

Listening, it did seem to make some sense.

On the side, Jing Youlan’s team, hearing the dialogue of the two, exchanged glances and laughed.

"This afternoon, I won’t be going easy on you." A voice sounded in Jing Youlan’s ear. Jing Youlan smirked, "I’ve been waiting for this." Confident and arrogant, he would no longer be easily dealt with; they had been improving during this period, and he hoped their rivals weren’t simply standing still.
