Mated at First Sight -
Chapter 604 - 403
Chapter 604: 403
Mu Lin saw wariness and fear in the eyes of a woman as if she was anticipating another gunshot; but after giving her a quick glance, he looked away. The empty cold eyes of Mu Lin swiftly turned to Zhang Qing.
Zhang Qing look back at Mu Lin, her fist tightly held.
She was still somewhat in shock.
Just earlier, her squad leader unexpectedly defended Mu Lin, an occurrence that had never happened before.
Other than when he was relentlessly disciplining them during training, Jing Tian was an easy-going person in private, often wearing a subtle smile. He always conversed with them in a laid-back manner, even making jokes, without any trace of airs of superiority.
In Zhang Qing’s eyes, Jing Tian was more approachable than Jing Chen; Jing Tian was too cold for her — you would get frozen if you got too close.
Sadly today... her dream shattered.
Zhang Qing would never forget the first day she joined the Seal Camp, Jing Tian’s cold-yet-charming faint smile as he welcomed them. From that moment, she knew her heart belonged to him, an emotion that just couldn’t be dismissed.
Over time, her affection only deepened, to the point where she almost couldn’t control it anymore.
All her efforts were just to catch his attention.
But since Mu Lin appeared, she realized that all Jing Tian’s attention had been diverted to him.
Even when Jing Tian respectfully called him Sister-in-law.
In Zhang Qing’s eyes, Mu Lin was the enchantress who seduced both Jing Chen and Jing Tian. Why would Mu Lin leave the comfort of B City for here?
In the beginning, she was seeking justice for her comrades. Now, she likely has deviated from her original goal.
"It’s my turn now," approaching Mu Lin with a cold calm, Zhang Qing spoke.
Mu Lin raised his eyebrow but said nothing.
"Mu Lin," Zhang Qing’s tone was icy, "Are you brave enough... to gamble with your life?" Her chilling words seemed strangely calm.
At that, Jing Tian’s brows furrowed.
Zhang Qing continued, "We will each stand in one direction, back to back. When the command is issued, we will turn and shoot without dodging. Let’s see who is faster."
Unfazed, Mu Lin did not reply. However, when she mentioned ’fate decides life and death,’ Mu Lin agreed without hesitation, a dark curve appearing on his lips.
"Mu Lin." This was the first time Jing Tian addressed Mu Lin without a respectful title.
Even though he had faith in Mu Lin, Jing Tian couldn’t allow this absurd bet. What’s more, "This is a military camp." Jing Tian’s eyes grew frosty as he looked at Zhang Qing, "From the moment you stepped into this camp, your life belongs to the country; it belongs here. It’s not at your own disposal."
"I do not allow this."
Zhang Qing bit her lip, looked at Jing Tian with a determined gaze, "Squad leader, I insist." She had to gamble, she had to prove to everyone that she is not inferior to Mu Lin.
Mu Lin’s speed and shooting skills were top-notch, but she didn’t believe she was any worse!
Jing Tian’s brow knitted further.
Ignoring him, Zhang Qing took another pistol and turned towards the designated direction.
"After this competition, you are no longer a member of Seal Camp." His camp does not need insubordinate soldiers.
A single comment sparked a wave of emotions. Zhang Qing froze but quickly continued walking without looking back.
Even if this meant leaving Seal Camp, she was willing to gamble; she had to see this through.
Jing Tian shot Mu Lin a disapproving look, Mu Lin just shook his head slightly, calmly saying, "Don’t worry, you can keep watching this show."
Jing Tian pursed his lips; he had lost the desire to watch. He had a gut feeling things were going to take a turn for the worse.
If Mu Lin got hurt on his watch, he would be skinned alive by his aunt.
The two stood back to back, about a hundred meters apart, with Jing Chen standing in the middle.
"Squad Leader?" the soldier who was supposed to referee the match looked uncertainly at Jing Tian. He didn’t dare announce the start without the squad leader’s approval — he didn’t want to be kicked out of Seal Camp for this.
Being part of Seal Camp made him feel honored.
Pressing his lips tightly together, Jing Tian finally nodded reluctantly.
What was Mu Lin thinking?
Almost subconsciously, Jing Tian readied his own gun.
"Start!"
At the referee’s command, the sound of gunshots echoed throughout the camp. Without hesitation, Zhang Qing turned and fired her gun. The bullet shot towards Mu Lin, aimed right at his forehead.
Jing Tian couldn’t help but take a step forward, his gun already raised.
Mu Lin, why aren’t you shooting?
With indifferent eyes, Mu Lin watched the bullet flying towards him with great speed. As it neared, he finally made his move.
Cocking the gun, aiming, shooting — his actions flowed like water, too fast for the eyes to follow. But even before people could react, his bullet had met with the incoming one midair.
"Bang!" Just when everyone thought the two bullets would neutralize each other upon impact, a scene that left everyone dumbfounded occurred.
How... how is this possible!
At that moment, everyone’s minds were blown — they couldn’t believe it but it had indeed happened before their very eyes.
