Chapter 541: Chapter 369: Truly Worthy of Being His Grandson (First Update)_1

Night, silent.

Adhering to the principle of early to bed and early to rise for good health, Mu Lin went upstairs to rest and sleep just after nine o’clock. That certain gentleman, however, still hadn’t returned.

She hadn’t a clue what he’d been busying himself with all day.

She was going home tomorrow; for some reason, Mu Lin felt a strange irritation, as if she were a child denied of a sweet treat.

In her dreams, Mu Lin felt a large hand constantly teasing her mischievously. The next moment, she suddenly felt a chill on her body. Subconsciously, she opened her eyes, only to find her mouth covered clumsily yet possessively.

Gazing at the handsome face magnified before her, Mu Lin instinctively tried to push him away.

Missing during the day, and causing disturbance late at night upon returning.

Even though she was right before his eyes, Jing Chen still felt dry-mouthed, because the girl in his heart had numerous facets, each stirring his emotions.

The next day, Mu Lin woke up in Jing Chen’s arms.

Her eyes slowly opened, revealing a hint of clarity and liveliness.

"Awake." His voice was husky in the early morning, yet carried an indescribable charm as he tilted his head to watch her quietly.

"Mhm," she replied softly, looking at Jing Chen. "Why haven’t you left yet?"

"Is Linlin rushing me out this early?" Jing Chen looked at Mu Lin with a face full of grievance, as if he could burst into tears at any moment if she were to nod, appearing utterly pitiful.

The sight was truly peculiar; how did such a stern man... she had just depicted him as pitiful.

Mu Lin laughed at him, "Your acting is too fake." His performance lacked sincerity.

"So, what kind of performance would be sincere? Why doesn’t Linlin show me?" He appeared completely eager to learn.

Mu Lin glanced at him speechlessly. Was he deliberately staying here to be a clown today?

Mu Lin: ...horrified.

After washing up, the two of them went downstairs. Seeing the matching pair descend the stairs arm in arm, Old Master Jing’s smile seemed as if it would tear his face. Especially when he noticed the undisguised marks on Mu Lin’s neck, his smile only deepened.

Sure enough, his grandson had sneaked into her room the moment he returned in the middle of the night, truly... worthy of being his grandson!

His great-grandchildren would be here soon.

"Girl, sit down and have breakfast." He couldn’t starve his little grandchild; he acted as if there was indeed a child taking root in Mu Lin’s stomach.

Feeling Old Master Jing’s eager gaze, Mu Lin experienced an inexplicably awkward sensation.

What was all this fuss in the morning? Mu Lin felt as if she had been targeted by a pack of wolves.

The two sat down, and someone immediately brought up a splendid spread of Chinese breakfast and fruits.

"Are you leaving today, girl?" From the moment they descended the stairs, Old Master Jing’s every word and glance were directed at Mu Lin. He completely disregarded Jing Chen who was painstakingly preparing her favourite breakfast by her side.

His manner was just like a little wife.

Hearing Old Master Jing’s words, Mu Lin nodded," I want to resolve the matter as soon as possible, and report back when the time comes." Although she said so, Mu Lin often felt that things were not as simple as they appeared.

Even now, she’s made no progress, so she must go to C Province. But Mu Lin still felt that by the time she discovered something, there would be a lot of complex issues involved.

Old Master Jing looked at Mu Lin. While he wasn’t aware of the girl’s situations, he felt sorry for her. Living all alone, she had to rely on herself for everything. Perhaps this was one of the reasons behind her cold demeanor. What was she really carrying on her shoulders?

He shouldn’t meddle with it now; all the old man hoped was that Mu Lin would take good care of herself.

"Girl, I hope you remember that no matter what happens, our Jing family will always be your strongest backing. Do you understand?" From now on, she will be under the protection of the Jing family.

He simply couldn’t believe that their entire family couldn’t protect a single girl.

"I understand, Grandpa." Mu Lin knew that Grandpa Jing meant that she shouldn’t shoulder everything by herself. Now, she had them behind her.

Mu Lin was moved. Since Mu Jue left, the Jing family had finally become her second home, safe and comforting, allowing her to enjoy the tenderness of a family.

Therefore, she had to settle her own issues first because she didn’t want the Jing family or the kind people around her to be harmed because of her one day.

The airport, the current time was quarter past nine in the morning.

Jing Chen stood in front of Mu Lin, tightly grasping her hands, "Linlin, I can’t accompany you this time. Be careful in C Province." Jing Chen’s heart had probably already cursed the person who assigned him this mission to death.

"I’ll come to find you as soon as the matter is over."

"Okay." Mu Lin looked at him with a smile, seeing his distressed and unhappy look, her eyes and heart softened. "Don’t worry, I will protect myself."

If it was before, she didn’t have any particular feelings about her own life. If she died, she died; it’s just a life after all. At that time, there was almost nothing left in reality that she felt attached to, except for Qiaozi and her silver necklace. But now, she couldn’t bear to leave Jing Chen or the Jing family. There were so many things she couldn’t bear to part with, she wanted to live with them forever.

This was perhaps the only desire Mu Lin had after taking her revenge.

So, she would definitely take good care of herself and not let them worry.

"Please take care of Qiaozi for me." Mu Lin began to instruct, "I’m not taking it with me this time. Life in the city is not free enough. It stays in the room all day and even though it never complains, I know Qiaozi must be very bored."

Because it’s a hawk that should be soaring freely in the sky.

During her time in Ming City, since Mu Lin didn’t like to show off and even less being the center of attention, she hardly ever took Qiaozi out with her.

Looking back, perhaps the military base would suit it better.

"Okay." Jing Chen nodded in agreement.

Mu Lin added, "But be careful when you bathe it. Qiaozi seems to be a bit afraid of you." Mu Lin couldn’t help but laugh looking at Jing Chen’s handsome face.

Since the incident last time, Qiaozi had almost treated Jing Chen as its enemy, not even allowing him to touch it. Whenever Jing Chen got close, it would ruffle its feathers.

As Uncle Qiaozi expressed it: Try to pluck a feather off of him again, he’ll fight Jing Chen to the death.

The feathers from its injured spot hadn’t completely grown back yet, so it felt a bit empty around that area on its wing.

In reality, it was not visible at all because the other feathers were covering it.

Unfortunately for the fastidious Uncle Qiaozi, this was not perfect in his eyes.

Afterward, Mu Lin continued to explain a few more things, just like a wife giving instructions to her husband about to set off on a journey, even though she was the one venturing out this time.

She promised to take good care of herself, and she hoped he would too.

Jing Chen looked at Mu Lin; no matter what she asked of him, he would agree. However, his eyes were filled with a strong sense of reluctance to part ways.

If possible, he didn’t want to leave her for even a moment.

Mu Lin said: "I’ll wait for you to find me."

Jing Chen replied: "Okay."

Again, with that simple one-word answer.

He would go to find her soon; Jing Chen couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her alone in such a dangerous place.
