Chapter 518: Chapter 355 - Curiosity Killed the Crow (Second Update) _1

As the previous private soldier marched forward, he saw bodies littered on the ground. He strode quickly towards them and crouched down.

"This is it." The private soldier said,"Almost all the people here died in the same way." Their eyes closed, their faces calm and peaceful, as if they had died a euthanized death. However, their appearance only made them seem even more terrifying, several times more so than the gruesome corpses.

Subconsciously, he checked the breath of a soldier in front of him, unable to hide his shock, "This is impossible!" He had never seen such a cause of death. As he inspected the bodies further, he moved onto the soldiers next to them, repeating the same action, but growing more horrified each time.

He couldn’t believe it.

He undressed a soldier. Aside from some old wounds from past trainings, there were no marks, but the man in front of him was clearly dead.

He stood up and looked at the private next to him, ordering, "Arrange for people to bury all these men, just leave him behind." They needed to find the cause of death. But they didn’t bring any military doctors with them this time so they could’ve only left one man.

"Yes, sir!" The private saluted respectfully and then retreated to carry out the orders.

His gaze slightly narrowed as he carefully surveyed the scene before him. He then walked towards the edge, observing the surroundings.

An intense fight must’ve happened here. Judging from the bullet trajectories and trace evidence on the trees, their side initially had the upper hand. Their forces were pressing them. What a pity!

The deaths in this place were somehow related to Ying Sun. This was something he didn’t need to think too much about. What he needed to figure out was how they turned the tables. All the answers lay within the bodies of these men.

Once he unraveled the mystery of their deaths, the answers would surely surface.

Their men must’ve died from something incredibly ominous.

Just then, the private returned to his side and looked at him, "There’s a man missing." The man they had been looking for from the beginning.

"Who?" An ominous foreboding seemed to intensify fleetingly.

"Li Wenshuai. We’ve accounted for all the bodies, but we can’t find him." He paused and asked, "Is Li not at the base?" As their squadron’s leader, he must be in such a place, right? That’s a universal principle for them.

Every team must have a leader, otherwise, the troop’s morale would disintegrate and anarchy would set in.

"I understand." Without answering, he just nodded faintly at the private and said, "Leave the rest to you. I need to report back about the situation here." He could already visualize the ensuing anger at that point.

And he wasn’t wrong.

He felt the man in front of him exuding an even stronger and darker aura. Furious flames coiled around his eyes as he glared at him.

The tension was unbearable.

"You’re saying, this man is missing?" His low voice barely concealed his calmness.

He nodded, "Yes."

"We’ve already cleared the bodies more than once, but unfortunately, we still can’t find any trace of Li Wenshuai." According to his estimation, Li probably... fell into the enemy’s hands by now.

Strangely, he was seized by a strong instinct.

Just stir up some trouble!

He didn’t think that Ying Sun would be so kind-heartedly keeping a prisoner of war; or, he thought that they’d favor the peaceful Luo Wenxian. After all, they cherished peace.

Everyone knew who Li Wenshuai was working under. Although it didn’t cause a significant stir, if they wanted to create minor trouble using Li Wenshuai, he believed they were capable of it.

Unfortunately, even knowing that the man was with their enemies, they were still helpless; no one knew where they would keep him, but he knew for sure that Luo Wenxian would hide him well.

After all, that was a cunning old fox.

"Bang!" The pair of jade beads he had been playing with fell to the ground, shaking his heart, making it tremble. He was standing with his head slightly bowed in front of the man, looking down at the shattered beads.

This was his favorite pair of jade beads, priceless, almost part of him. Who would have thought they would be destroyed today, showing how intense his rage was. Having served for nearly ten years, he’d never seen him this angry.

However, since the man had assumed his current position, he had never seen him taking such losses.

Naturally, rage was to be expected, moreover, knowing who their opponent was, they still couldn’t do anything!

However, how to handle today’s issue was quite a problem for them.

...

Meanwhile, on the other side, Mu Lin and Jing Chen’s party had already left Y Country. Although they were still in the jungle, they were a considerable distance away from their previous location, and they should be able to reach the forbidden area of their base soon.

At this moment, everyone seemed rather laid-back.

"Everyone stay still." The cold voice was tinged with urgency. In a blink, both the 123 wooden men and the people of Ying Sun dared not move an inch. Some of them didn’t even dare to put down the foot they had just lifted.

Sister-in-law, what on earth are you planning!

Jing Chen looked back at Mu Lin. "Linlin, what’s going on?" This sudden command was shocking, to say the least.

Jing Chen glanced at his subordinates, who stood in the most comical positions, but he refrained from commenting.

However, this time, Mu Lin completely ignored him. She strode forward, then stood in front of the Ugh Mouth, brightly smiling at him.

The Ugh Mouth tried to keep a poker face, "Sister-in-law, don’t smile at me. When you smile, my heart grows heavy." The chill ran deep, a shadowy breeze howled; he had no idea what he had done to incur her wrath.

Standing on one foot, or perhaps, the Ugh Mouth was the epitome of amusement.

The mission was complete. All dangers had passed, and everyone returned safely. The Ugh Mouth was quite happy, hence his big, even somewhat jumpy, steps along the way.

However, Mu Lin’s sudden command froze him in his tracks, like a spell had been cast. His awkward position was so hilarious that everyone couldn’t help but laugh.

The people of Ying Sun realized that throughout their journey, their sister-in-law had been the bane of the Ugh Mouth’s existence. There were countless funny moments all because his jabbering had no effect on her.

Mu Lin’s smile widened as she continued to look at him. She slowly extended her arm and, before the shocked Ugh Mouth, pushed him away with disgust.

"You almost stepped on my treasure." The chilly voice contrasted humorously with the thud of the Ugh Mouth hitting the ground.

Sympathetic eyes slowly shifted from the Ugh Mouth to the spot in front of Mu Lin that he almost stepped on.

There, a resilient little herb was swaying in the wind. Its small body appeared unusually sturdy, and it was crowned with a little flower, having white petals speckled with faint purple. But the most striking part was its pure black color.

What on earth is this peculiar thing?

However, looking at Mu Lin’s pleasantly surprised eyes, they were pretty sure that it must be a precious item; no, a valuable medicinal herb.

In their sister-in-law’s eyes, what else could be called a treasure, apart from medicinal herbs?

The icy glares from Master Jing, of course, and him.

......

Wuhuan Grass!

Mu Lin had only seen pictures of this herb in medical books. Legends say it was completely black and extremely venomous. It grew in lush areas, but without a specific habitat. Despite its strong survival skills, its propagation was absolutely pitiful. Even in the Black Forest, Mu Lin had never seen it.

Unexpectedly, she found it today. It seems like there was a certain fate between them.

Wuhuan Grass could not only be used to make poison but also antidotes. It was an excellent medicinal herb.

Like centipedes which are scary to look at and can cause pain when they bite, they are very useful in medicinal use when dried.

Meticulously taking out a dagger, Mu Lin cautiously went about digging up the Wuhuan Grass. Once done, she wrapped it up, looking satisfied.

Mu Lin believed everything is determined by fate.

Ugh Mouth straightened up, then crawled over and squatted in front of Mu Lin, "Sister-in-law, let me have a look." His face was full of desire.

Mu Lin looked up at him, her smile was mysterious, "I wonder if you’ve heard of a saying."

Ugh Mouth: "What saying?"

Mu Lin: "Curiosity killed the hawk."

Ugh Mouth was startled!

"Sister-in-law, isn’t the saying ’Curiosity killed the cat?’ not the hawk!" Sister-in-law, you are so good at twisting things around!

"If you were a cat, I wouldn’t mind changing it to cat." Mu Lin’s mouth curved into a mischievous smile, "But, does the hawk have nine lives like a cat?"

The Ugh Mouth was taken aback by this.

"Thud," he fell on the ground again and stayed there.
