Chapter 457: Chapter 321: War Letter to Mu Lin (first update)_2
His gaze was cold as he looked at the challenge letter in his hand. Mu Lin emanated a chilling and bloodthirsty aura. He looked at Mo Yinfan, "When did you receive this?" Skimming through the message, it seemed the people from the Heaven’s Net Organization were planning to strike at the Entrepreneur Convention in Ming City.
Of course, they wanted her to attend the convention too.
He furrowed his brows, wondering what they were up to. For the moment, Mu Lin was uncertain.
"Early this morning," Mo Yinfan answered. "Mo Qian found it mixed in with my mail this morning. I initially thought it was a regular letter." Or perhaps a different kind of mail. He paused before continuing, "Only the recipient’s address is written on it, there’s no return address." Other than some fingerprints, which apparently belonged to the recipient, they hadn’t discovered any other fingerprints. It seemed the sender didn’t want to be found or perhaps the person who wrote this had a habit of wearing gloves.
Mu Lin assumed it was the latter.
These people, quite certainly, were not afraid of any investigation. Even if investigated, it would surely result in a dead end.
Mu Lin chuckled lightly, "It would be odd if there was a return address." Even if there was one, it would generally be fake—unless the sender wanted to play a game.
"So, what is this Entrepreneur Convention about?" Setting the letter aside, Mu Lin asked, completely clueless about such events.
Mo Yinfan explained, "Our Ming City’s Entrepreneur Convention is actually a massive project investment fair organized by the government. Entrepreneurs from all over the country come to Ming City to discuss financing and other potential collaborations with our local departments." After all, these business magnates were key drivers for a city’s growth.
In recent years, the mayor had been personally organizing this convention. Thus, this time, neither Mo Yinfan nor Mo Qian could have imagined that someone would target it. It seemed to be a troublesome year.
Mo Yinfan didn’t want any mishaps to happen during the convention. However, with only two days left before the convention and entrepreneurs from other provinces already arriving, there was no time left to reschedule or cancel it. And so, he had come to seek Mu Lin’s help in hopes of finding a solution.
In fact, Mo Yinfan was curious about how Mu Lin would handle this.
After all, they were targeting Mu Lin, but he didn’t want her to end up in any danger or trouble.
If possible, Mo Yinfan didn’t want Mu Lin to attend the convention, but he felt he couldn’t withhold this information from her.
As they had learned from the last incident, Mu Lin had been actively seeking clues about the Organization.
With a thoughtful nod, Mu Lin slowly rose from her chair and left the room, her eyebrows slightly knitted.
What were these people trying to achieve by inviting her? Were they trying to use these entrepreneurs to threaten her? Or did they have another motive?
She had a feeling things would not be this straightforward.
With her out in the open and her enemies lurking in the shadows, the tension between them was incredibly frustrating.
Being constantly watched by hidden eyes was something Mu Lin found incredibly disturbing. She wanted to expose these people as soon as possible.
"What are you planning to do?" Mo Yinfan asked from the side. "This is most likely a trap." If Mu Lin really went, she would have played right into their hands.
However, if Mu Lin chose not to go, the consequences were... uncertain.
On hearing Mo Yinfan’s words, a faint smile curved up at the corner of Mu Lin’s mouth. The light in her eyes was icy cold. "It seems I, Mu Lin, have to brave the tiger’s den, regardless of the risks." Her proud demeanor was typical for her. Looking at Mo Yinfan, she said, "Do you really think I have a choice? This time, they are using all attendees’ lives at the convention as leverage against me." That’s what Mu Lin thought—even if she didn’t know their exact plans for the convention, they were definitely not benign.
Furthermore, "Even if I don’t go, they will still resort to all means necessary to draw me into their clutches. If you wish to reduce casualties, you should tie me up and take me there." Those people would surely force her to step into the trap, sooner or later.
Hearing Mu Lin’s words, Mo Yinfan couldn’t help but let out a half laugh. "If you don’t want to go, I doubt anyone could force you." The Poison Doctor wasn’t just all talk—besides, no one by his side could ever match up to Mu Lin’s combat skills.
As such, he couldn’t do the job of tying her up; but thinking of the enemies’ intentions darkened his mood once again.
"So," Mu Lin said with a light chuckle, "see how cooperative I am? I think you should award me a flag for being a good citizen."
"If that’s what you want," Mo Yinfan chuckled, "I can arrange it at any time." Mu Lin’s comment, even if made in jest, made Mo Yinfan feel a lot more relaxed.
"Have you figured out a way to deal with all this?" This was the primary concern that had brought him here today. Unfortunately, Mu Lin leaned back casually onto the sofa and replied calmly, "No." Her two-word response was incredibly maddening.
Ever since he’d become acquainted with Mu Lin, Mo Yinfan had never seen her genuinely worried about anything.
Mo Qian looked at Mu Lin, asking, "What should we do?" This was a grave issue; it was not something to joke about.
"Increase vigilance," Mu Lin replied, as it seemed they truly did not know what else they could do.
However, she hadn’t expected that the gift from that organization after the previous assassination attempt would be such an upgrade.
She could only hope that things would work out in the end.
