Chapter 450: Chapter 316: Why Not Accomplish (Second Update)_1

Walking briskly to Mu Lin, he examined her thoroughly from top to bottom, finding no injuries, then finally pulled her into his embrace.

The heart that was hanging in his chest, finally settled.

In the end, he couldn’t resist coming.

Leaning in Jing Chen’s arms, Mu Lin cracked a smile, "You were quite composed before." Mu Lin referred to Jing Chen’s calm demeanor when she arrived, which was vastly different from his current state.

"That was an act." A soft voice seeped into Mu Lin’s ears; even though he knew there wouldn’t be any issues, he was still worried. Until he saw Mu Lin safe, that hanging heart would not settle.

Mu Lin chuckled, pushed away Jing Chen, and looked at those soldiers looking like they were ready for a show in the distance, puzzled, "Why are they all here?"

"Sister in law." Xigua took a step forward to explain, "We were just finishing a mission near Ming City, and after the mission, we came to visit you and the boss. Unexpectedly, as soon as we greeted the boss, he directed us here."

It was indeed a close call, if they had been any later... they wouldn’t have seen the ferocious and icy demeanor of their sister-in-law.

Mu Lin nodded, "That’s quite a coincidence." However, had they really come for just a visit? Mu Lin was somewhat incredulous.

Jing Chen had been by her side quite a lot lately.

Thinking of this, Mu Lin inexplicably felt a bit hazy in her chest; she seemed to have become accustomed to his constant presence, sticking to her, and was reluctant to part ways.

Out of habit, she reached out, interlocking their fingers.

Jing Chen looked at Mu Lin in surprise, then firmly held her hand in his.

Actually, it was true that the Ying Sun soldiers were nearby for some unfinished business, but this time they were not just passing by; they had specifically come to find him and then go back.

"Mu Lin, are you alright?" Before Ya Yan had even entered, her voice rang out. The moment she finished her sentence, Ya Yan had already run in, with Yan Zilei following her, looking somewhat helpless at her back.

If something were to happen to him one day, he wondered if she would be as anxious as she was now, not even caring about her own life.

Previously, Yan Zilei had received Ya Yan’s call and was about to rush over to tell Mu Lin, but when he was about to reach, he saw Jing Chen suddenly appear with a team of people. He was first surprised, then laughed.

He did not comment much; after all, these were human emotions. Even the distinguished Lord Jing, as per the legends, could not escape this aspect.

He had actually thought that Jing Chen might have been able to.

Ya Yan ran up to Mu Lin, examined her thoroughly, and then, with a woof sound, she flung herself into Mu Lin’s arms, crying out of breath, "Thank goodness...you’re alright." She had been dreadfully worried.

On the way, Ya Yan had been running all the time. She wanted to find Yan Zilei as quickly as possible so that he could help Mu Lin. When she finally saw Yan Zilei, she was almost out of breath. Now seeing that Mu Lin was fine, she immediately let out all of her fear without hesitation.

Minutes passed.

With sobs, Ya Yan stood in front of Mu Lin. Her eyes were swollen and red, making her look like a rabbit.

Mumbling a nod, Mu Lin patted her head, "You’re becoming increasingly like a rabbit." Ya Yan remained silent; she’d be a rabbit for Mu Lin.

Releasing Jing Chen’s hand, Mu Lin walked over to Yan Zilei, "That woman, I leave her to you." She had kept her word. Pausing slightly, she added, "I know you want Ya Yan to slowly notice her feelings for you, but sometimes, people need a wake-up call." This man had seemed inactive lately.

"A woman’s heart is fragile. If one day there is a misunderstanding between you two, beware that Ya Yan’s next choice may not be you." Then he would really have something to cry about.

The corner of Mu Lin’s mouth curved up in schadenfreude.

"I know." Yan Zilei nodded. If he hadn’t been busy recently, he would have made a move earlier. "Thanks." Yan Zilei was referring to Ya Yan’s matter and to the woman standing still, unable to move. Jiang Tiantian certainly couldn’t believe that although she initially held the advantage, now... why had the situation developed into this?

Until now, she still couldn’t accept it. The expression on her face was quite unsightly.

Looking at Yan Zilei, Mu Lin shook her head, "Ya Yan only got involved because of me. You don’t need to thank me." And he wasn’t obliged to.

Yan Zilei just gave a faint smile, not saying anything.

Jing Chen walked over to Yan Zilei and spoke in a neutral tone, "I need to hand over this maniac’s corpse to Ren Laifeng, you handle the rest." As a local of Ming City, Yan Zilei should be adept at handling this situation.

After all, the Yan House hadn’t been disbanded yet, had they?

Jing Chen stated that he had a bit of knowledge about the events of the Yan House.

"Alright." Yan Zilei nodded, signaled to someone not too far away. The person nodded respectfully before retreating, turning around to run towards the outside. Quite quickly, the guards from the Yan House poured in, and the corpses that once filled the factory disappeared without a trace, leaving only the madman’s body alone. Ying Sun’s men stepped forward and took away the madman’s body as well.

They got to business.

Yan Zilei walked to Mu Lin’s side, opened his mouth, but eventually didn’t say anything.

"Is there something else?" Mu Lin looked at him puzzlingly, vacillating between two courses of action wasn’t something he’d expect from Yan Zilei.

Yan Zilei pressed his lips together, and finally spoke," Mu Lin, what do you think is the most painful thing for a woman?" To be honest, ordinary punishment, Yan Zilei thought, is far from extinguishing the hatred in his heart.

Mu Lin smiled, "To be able to eat but not able to eat, desiring but not able to feed the desire, the force from refusal, coming from the torture of body and mind." In a few phrases, he managed to bewilder anyone listening.

Yan Zilei frowned unconsciously, "What does that mean?" Why hadn’t he understood what Mu Lin had just said?

Mu Lin pulled out two pills from his bag and handed them to Yan Zilei with a slight grin.

"The white is for rejection, the gray is for desire, first take the white then take the gray, you’ll understand then." He took Jing Chen’s arm and added,"She liked men best, didn’t she? Why don’t you... fulfill her last wish."

"Take good care of her, don’t let her down."

At this time, Yan Zilei didn’t understand, but when he later saw the miserable state of Jiang Tiantian, he realized what real cruelty and poison were.

Of course, all of this was a story for another time. As for Jiang Tiantian’s fate, if she wasn’t dead, she’d be crippled; if she was crippled, living was as good as being dead. The desire she once loved the most, before her near death, had become her greatest fear.

It must be said, this punishment was quite incredible.

Outside the factory, once again, their fingers interlaced, Mu Lin and Jing Chen slowly moved forward.

"You’re going." Mu Lin said in affirmation, looking at the uneven path in front of him.

Jing Chen nodded, "Yeah." He paused before adding, "There’s a new mission, it’s strenuous, and I can’t trust them to do it alone." He was a soldier, thus, he had the duties of a soldier.

When the organization needed to use his abilities, he could not, and would not refuse; this was the responsibility and duty of a soldier.

Truth be told, Mu Lin didn’t quite understand.

"Oh." Mu Lin nodded lightly, "Then, be careful." Other than that, it seemed like there was nothing else she could say.

"Okay." Feeling Mu Lin’s low spirits, Jing Chen didn’t know what else to say all of a sudden.

He didn’t want to leave, but he was a soldier.

The title ’soldier’ said it all.

The silence between them continued for a while. Finally, Mu Lin asked again, "Are you leaving tonight?" Time really flew by.

Jing Chen nodded, "I must return to B City before tomorrow morning." It was an order from above.

"I understand." Mu Lin stopped, turned to look at him, "Remember to take all the things I gave you." If Jing Chen had to engage in combat during the mission, the level of danger he was facing did not require further explanation.

Now, she would worry the same way he had worried about her safety today.

Afterwards, Mu Lin took two small porcelain bottles from her bag, "Inside are the poison powder I usually use without forming them into pills, and the antidote. I don’t know if you’ll need them, but take them just in case."

He reached out, took them, and put them in his pocket.

"Okay." His eyes softened, with a complicated expression.

If possible, he really wished he could let go of everything and protect her quietly by her side, always standing behind her, looking out for her alone.

Unfortunately, his duty and everything else reminded him, that was something impossible to do.

At least for now, it wasn’t possible.
