Chapter 442: Chapter 311: Her Grandfather (Third Update)_1
"CEO Yan, you’re quite the ladies man," the CEO sitting next to him commented with a hint of humor in his eyes, taunting Yan Zilei. "It’s a bit of a shame though. The goddess is interested, but our hero is not," he continued.
At his words, Yan Zilei forced a smile. "You’re too funny, CEO Zhang," he said. This kind of attention, he didn’t need. His gaze drifted involuntarily towards his darling, but she just glanced at him, gave a cold hmph, and turned away dismissively.
Yan Zilei was caught between laughter and tears. What had he done wrong?
His darling seemed jealous again.
But he liked it.
A tender smile crept up his face, his aura mellowing a bit. CEO Zhang looked surprised. Following Yan’s gaze, he finally understood and chuckled.
It seemed that CEO Yan, other than being gentle towards his younger sister, really didn’t have eyes for any other woman.
The young mistress of the Yan Family, she was truly spoiled and pampered. Whoever had a chance to marry her would basically inherit the entire Yan Family. Yan Zilei had publicly declared that the Yan Family’s successor would only be his little sister, Ya Yan. Unfortunately, his own son wasn’t ambitious and just loitered around chasing girls all day. Otherwise, they might have had a chance with the Yan Family. If he’d managed to impress Miss Yan, it would’ve made doing business with the Yan Family even more convenient.
The Du family really lost out. A huge opportunity slipped right through their fingers, how ridiculous!
Even though the Sun family had been rising these past few years and were quite commendable, they still couldn’t match the Yan Family. After all, the Yan family’s roots were deeper.
"Mu Lin, I need to go to the restroom," Ya Yan got up, speaking to Mu Lin. Her pouting face and clear expression of discontent meant she wasn’t good at hiding her feelings.
Mu Lin looked at her, "Do you want me to accompany you?" She didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone in this state.
Ya Yan shook her head, "No need, I can go by myself." Feeling downcast, she just wanted to wash her face to clear her thoughts.
Mu Lin smiled and nodded. She’d seen the earlier scene: Yan Zilei was just as attractive to women as her own grandfather.
Today was Ya Yan’s first time attending a banquet like this. Since they first arrived, Mu Lin had noticed that Yan Zilei was very popular in Ming City. Half the women at the banquet were probably pining after him, whether it was for their family’s sake or their own. Her darling was surely feeling very jealous.
She’d only lightly teased Jing Chen by calling him grandpa before, laughing along the way. Yet calling him grandpa had slowly become a habit for Mu Lin, much like how Jing Chen liked to call her his lady. She was getting used to it now. Her grandpa.
Thinking about it made her want to laugh.
Noticing something, Jing Chen looked back to Mu Lin, stunned for a moment before the corners of his mouth lifted into a smile. It was the first time he’d seen such a warm expression on her face; warmth that was only for him.
He reached out and held Mu Lin’s hand tightly, not willing to let go.
Outside the restroom.
Icy cold water tumbled down Ya Yan’s cheeks. She stared blankly at her reflection, feeling a strange sense of detachment.
What was wrong with her today? Why did she feel so uncomfortable when she saw that actress deliberately getting close to her brother? And all those other women...so her brother was really that popular.
But how could she be so selfish? Her brother wasn’t just hers, he would eventually marry someone else.
But whenever she thought about this, it felt like something in her chest was twisting and jabbing, causing pain.
She doused her face with water again, patting her cheeks and muttered to herself, "Ya Yan, stop overthinking." What was the point of overthinking? What was destined to happen would come eventually; she took a deep breath. Just as she was about to turn around, she suddenly spotted a burly man standing behind her, his eyes eerily staring at her.
Ya Yan jumped in shock and instinctively froze for a moment. But the next moment, she pretended not to see him and casually turned around to leave. Unfortunately, just as she was turning away, the man suddenly reached out, his movements alarmingly fast.
