Mated at First Sight
Chapter 393 - 280

Chapter 393: 280

"You seriously think you’re in the right?" She huffed, aggravated. Her friend was the one hurt, so this girl felt entirely justified. She’d conveniently forgotten that they’d brought this calamity upon themselves.

If they hadn’t messed with Ya Yan’s bag, if they hadn’t tried to throw the snake into the trash can, none of this would have happened. If this wasn’t digging their own graves, what was?

If it had been the old Ya Yan, she might have been flustered, or even apologized due to her easygoing nature. But, the current Ya Yan would not.

Because she didn’t do anything wrong!

If it were Mu Lin, she definitely wouldn’t apologize either.

"Why did you touch my bag?" Ya Yan repeated, her gaze icy cold as she stared at the girl, making her feel uncomfortable.

"All we did was move your bag a bit. Why would you let a snake bite someone?" Ya Yan’s cold stare gave her the creeps. When did Ya Yan become so intimidating?

"The snake wouldn’t just bite someone, so what did you do to it?" Ya Yan was insistent. Even at home, she’d never seen the snake bite someone without provocation. The only time it had bitten her brother was to protect her. Aside from that, nothing of the sort had ever happened. Hence, to Ya Yan, this snake was a good snake. That’s why she brought it to school with her.

"Now you’re daring enough to question me? Don’t forget, you were the one who let the snake bite someone." This girl was adamant about blaming the snake bite on Ya Yan, dismissing all else as irrelevant. She was clearly trying to stir up trouble. She seemed to have forgotten that her ’friend’ had been bitten by the poisonous snake. Shouldn’t her first instinct have been to call an ambulance or take her friend to the hospital?

So, be careful about who you befriend, or they may put your life in danger.

"What’s going on here? What happened?" Just then, a soft voice rang out. Ya Yan heaved a sigh as she looked back.

Great, today’s events would certainly spell trouble. She should call her big brother to handle this. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to debate against them.

Ignoring the person approaching from behind, Ya Yan took out her phone and dialed a number. The girl who had been causing trouble brightened up at the sight of the newcomer, immediately going over to sob her exaggerated tale of woes.

Their back-and-forth was quite a performance.

Just after ending the call, Ya Yan heard someone calling her name from behind. Turning around, she observed the person with a calm expression.

Seeing the arrival, Liu Xiaoya’s disdain only intensified. She had a hunch that these people were just here to cause trouble on purpose. Remaining loyal, Liu Xiaoya positioned herself protectively in front of Ya Yan, "What are you doing here?"

The man and woman in front of Liu Xiaoya were nothing less than an unsightly couple in her eyes!

She had always thought that Du Hongyu wasn’t good enough for Ya Yan. However, Ya Yan didn’t say anything, so as a friend, she refrained from commenting too much without proof. Unexpectedly, not long ago, Ya Yan suddenly told her that their engagement agreement was called off. Soon after, Du Hongyu and Sun Yao started dating openly. Though they claimed to be just friends, anyone who believed that was a fool.

Ya Yan was once close with Sun Yao and even brought her along on trips. But now, she completely ignored them. Liu Xiaoya, after watching so many dramatic TV series, could easily guess what had happened between them.

As the saying goes, "guard against fire, guard against theft, guard against besties". Cough... Liu Xiaoya argued, she’s not a bestie, but a sworn sister. She considered herself the protector of Ya Yan, thus "bestie" — a highly respectable term — did not apply to her.

Liu Xiaoya believed that Du Hongyu truly loved Ya Yan. However, he was easily swayed by temptation. Such a man lacked the backbone Ya Yan needed. Ya Yan needed a man with the domineering temperament of Yan Zilei to properly protect her.

Of course, Liu Xiaoya also knew that there were no blood ties between Ya Yan and Yan Zilei. So, in her heart, Yan Zilei was Ya Yan’s true knight in shining armor.

Prince Charming was too clichéd and illusory, not suitable for their Yanyan.

Most importantly, clearly, Liu Xiaoya could see that the way Yan Zilei looked at Ya Yan was not just brotherly. Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm...

That was an indescribably lecherous laugh.

Sun Yao looked at Liu Xiaoya, who styled herself as Ya Yan’s protector, with a hint of disdain. After all, these two had been at odds from the very beginning. Unfortunately, Ya Yan had been naïve at the time and considered Sun Yao a close friend, simply because they had known each other for a long time.

"Liu Xiaoya, could you step aside? I have something to discuss with Yanyan." Sun Yao looked at Liu Xiaoya, maintaining a smile on her face despite her contempt.

"If you don’t want to smile at me, then don’t. You look ugly when you force a smile. Let me tell you, Sun Yao, I won’t let you get your way," Liu Xiaoya retorted. If she wanted to go to war, then bring it on, Liu Xiaoya was not afraid.

Liu Xiaoya was certain that Sun Yao would not expose her true intentions in front of everyone.

Clenching her fists, Sun Yao called out to Ya Yan who was standing behind Liu Xiaoya, "Yanyan." It was clear that she was hoping Ya Yan would step out, but Ya Yan just ignored her, waiting for her brother to arrive.

She didn’t like to take advantage of her position, but sometimes, power was important. Ya Yan was straightforward, but that didn’t mean she was oblivious.

This was reality.

Seeing Ya Yan’s indifferent expression, Du Hongyu, standing behind Sun Yao, took a step forward. Looking at Ya Yan, his eyes filled with pain and helplessness.

"Yanyan."
