Mated at First Sight
Chapter 359 - 260

Chapter 359: 260

"Mu Lin?" Mo Yinfan reluctantly raises an eyebrow as he watches the busy figure in front of him and the puzzled gazes of some chefs and kitchen maids. A touch of confusion forms in his mind.

"What are you doing?" Mo Qian steps forward but stops dead in her tracks upon seeing the pitch-black, putrid substance in the pot. "What the hell is that?" She couldn’t help but feel a disgusting urge when she saw it.

"Temporary antidote," Mu Lin said casually, with a faint smile playing at the corner of her lips.

"Temporary antidote?" Yinfan moved closer to Mu Lin only to cough lightly after a glance at the substance in the pot, "You mean, those people outside didn’t get food poisoning."

"Do you really think it’s that simple?" Mu Lin counters, arching an eyebrow. Yinfan remained silent.

Indeed, the situation couldn’t be as simple as it seemed.

"So what poison did they ingest?" Mo Qian asked reflexively.

"Tibial Incense." Mu Lin responds.

"Tibial Incense?" The name didn’t seem to provoke any particular reaction, "Is it troublesome?" Yinfan was more concerned about this.

"Manageable," Mu Lin replied indifferently, cracking a faint smile. Daring to use the leftovers of her playthings against her, the audacity! Mu Lin suddenly felt that she had possibly overestimated that scorpion.

True to its name, Tibial Incense emitted a peculiar smell, like marrow bone when ingested. The scent would gradually emanate from your body, causing your complexion to flush and glisten for a short period. Soon after, unbearable pain would spread throughout your body before it turned pallid, announcing the scent’s complete dispersal and your impending death.

The whole ordeal lasted just thirty minutes.

The moment Mu Lin entered the canteen, she distinctly recognized the familiar aroma. After all, she had once used herself to test this poison. Given her immunity to all poisons, she served as the perfect test subject.

Naturally, Mu Lin would only test the poison on herself after she had prepared the antidote, confirming its ultimate effects.

"That’s good," hearing Mu Lin’s words, Yinfan stopped worrying. The head chef heaved a sigh of relief. Not because of anything else, but because the current incident was not caused by food poisoning due to unclean food at his end. If someone were expelled for that reason, they would have no chance to redeem themselves. Being prohibited from cooking would be more miserable than death for him.

With that, Mu Lin found herself on the receiving end of several grateful gazes.

The situation had escalated because of Mu Lin, yet she still ended up getting thanked.

The head chef was furious at the person who had poisoned the food, his heart filled with curses.

Wasting food was disgraceful, let alone poisoning it. If he ever identified the culprit, he wouldn’t let them off lightly.

"It’s done." Mu Lin, standing before the boiling medicinal soup, addressed the head chef, "You guys should feed this medicine to those outside. A rounded spoonful for each should do, it can temporarily suppress the effects of the poison, that gives me enough time to prepare the real antidote." If she had enough time, Mu Lin would have been reluctant to waste her premium medicine this way. So many pills!... Mu Lin turned to Yinfan, "Remember to pay my medical fees when it’s over." Her task was to protect him. All the others had nothing to do with her.

"Sure." Yinfan’s helpless laughter filled with underlying fondness.

Mu Lin was really cute like this.

Upon hearing Mu Lin’s words, the head chef immediately responded. He instantly called the kitchen staff and other workers to help him serve the antidote.

"Didn’t you just prepare an antidote?" Mo Qian asked, puzzled as to why they needed another one.

"No," Mu Lin shook her head, "Though I’ve developed the antidote for Tibial Incense before, the process is very complicated and time-consuming. Most importantly, the poison acts so quickly that death occurs within thirty minutes of ingestion. Without a temporary suppressant, there’s simply not enough time."

Of course, Mu Lin made a soup from all the medicine because the large number of people who came to eat here. There must be hundreds of poisoned individuals and the simple detox pills she had would not suffice.

Mu Lin had already had an inkling that her adversary was now aware of her presence at Yinfan’s side. After her interference with their plan, they weren’t just going to let it go. They would likely stir up chaos here and possibly take it a step too far. She certainly felt nothing at the thought. After all, human lives had never held any value to her. But now, she was a military doctor, representing Jing Chen; she couldn’t disgrace him.

She then handed a list she had just prepared to Yinfan, "You need to find someone to gather these medicinal ingredients for me within a day, or else, all these people would still die after three days." She would be blameless then. Not because she didn’t want to save them, but due to their inefficiency.

"Sure." Yinfan nodded, then turned to Mo Qian, "You should find a couple of reliable people to handle this promptly." He didn’t trust her enough to handle this herself and hence, asked her to find others instead.

Mo Qian took the list and turned to leave.

"Let’s go and take a look outside," Mo Yinfan said to Mu Lin. Mu Lin nodded, and the two of them walked out together.

Some people had already taken the temporary antidote, but the pain on their faces still hadn’t disappeared. The reason... was probably due to Mu Lin’s antidote being even more unpleasant than the poison itself. However, regarding its effectiveness, everyone agreed that it was exceptionally good.

They had only just drunk it a few seconds ago, but the agonizing pain was instantly gone.

Considering the healing effects, they chose to hold back their complaints. After all, good medicine is often bitter to the taste.

Urgh~ How are they going to deal with this nausea now?

Seeing everyone gradually recovering, Mo Yinfan let out a sigh of relief. He turned to say something to Mu Lin, only to see that she had already stood up and started walking in a certain direction. He paused for a moment before following her with large strides.

What exactly is Mu Lin planning to do?

"I’ll take it." Mu Lin took the ladle from a cook’s hand (the kind used for serving soup at the table). The cook was about to reprimand her subconsciously, but upon seeing Mu Lin’s calm smiling face, she immediately closed her mouth, readily giving up her spot and stood aside.

"Miss Mu."

To them, Mu Lin was their savior. If it wasn’t for her, they all would have been facing unemployment, not to mention being investigated for who had poisoned them.

Upon hearing the cook call her name, the woman in front of them who was in pain subconsciously tensed up. She raised her eyes slightly to look at Mu Lin and then quickly lowered her gaze when no one was paying attention. Her eyes were as cold as ice.

Mu Lin.

"How do you feel?" Mu Lin asked the woman in front of her. The curve of her mouth was faint, giving off an unusual gentleness.

"It hurts." The woman held her chest and looked at Mu Lin with discomfort in her eyes, which she quickly hid.

"It’s okay," Mu Lin smiled and said, "you won’t feel so bad after drinking this." At this moment, in the eyes of the cooks standing nearby, Mu Lin appeared incredibly gentle.

"Really?" The woman doubted Mu Lin, then looked at the medicine in Mu Lin’s hand, which looked incredibly disgusting, and instinctively took a step back. "It looks so revolting," she said with a look of disgust.

Upon hearing the woman’s words, the cook next to her quickly coaxed, "Good medicine is bitter. Look at them, they’ve already started to feel better. You should just drink it as soon as possible." She was referring to the people nearby who had already taken the medicine and were now calm again.

The woman looked at the cook, then at Mu Lin, and finally fixed her gaze on the spoon in Mu Lin’s hand.

My goodness, she’s so attractive she could make your nose bleed.

This woman must have just arrived. Her figure is devilishly attractive.

To tell the truth, even though Mu Lin is beautiful, sometimes men are just that perverse. They prefer seductive and enchanting women, even if they’re dangerous.

The woman caught the admiring glances of the male cook out of the corner of her eye and the corners of her mouth lifted in a fleeting, faint smile.

Men, ha! In this world, apart from that clueless man Black Scorpion, no one else can resist her charm.

Even though she was jealous of Mu Lin’s beauty, she immediately felt satisfied when she noticed the man’s admiring gaze.

The self-satisfied woman didn’t notice that the girl standing in front of her had an unusually strange smile on her face.

"Alright, you can drink now." Mu Lin held the spoon to the woman’s mouth. "Come on, hurry up. After all, there are still many other people waiting." She gently coaxed the woman.

The woman nodded and finally took a sip of the bitter medicine. Her eyebrows furrowed in pain; but only Mu Lin knew that she was actually trying to identify the ingredients in her temporary antidote.

What a shame. Did she really think that she could identify what was in Mu Lin’s remedy?

She returned the spoon to the cook. As for the male cook, he was unwilling to leave and kept turning back to take one last look.

"So, were you able to taste how many kinds of herbal ingredients are in it, Red Scorpion?" A scorpion, huh? Indeed, it was a rare kind of poison.
