Chapter 334: Chapter 244: Hostage (Third Update)_2
"What exactly are you trying to achieve by bringing me here with such painstaking efforts?" The man looked at Mu Lin, "If you’re trying to extract information from me, I can tell you directly that it’s impossible." Don’t dream about learning anything from me about what’s going on behind the scenes.
"It’s rather reductive to say it’s impossible." Mu Lin blinked innocently, "To spare yourself from regretting these words later." Whether he was as unyielding as he seemed remained to be seen: until things had fully played out, making empty boasts was useless.
"Let’s start with the first question." Mu Lin leaned back slightly, lazily resting against the chair behind her. "What’s your code name?" This was truly a mundane question.
Although he was taken by surprise, he didn’t hold back. "Green Scorpion." It was just a codename, not anything worth keeping secret.
"Green Scorpion, huh." chuckled Mu Lin, "Then wouldn’t your companions, by any chance, be Red, Orange, Yellow, Indigo, Blue, Violet, and Black Scorpion?" It had to be said, Mu Lin was interested in finding out.
Green Scorpion scoffed coldly, "What if they are?"
Mu Lin: "That would mean you guys are creative. The codenames are indeed simple and convenient."
Inside the Monitoring Room.
"Are they chit-chatting or catching up on old times?" Ren Laifeng exclaimed, finding it all too complicated to decipher.
"Just keep watching and you’ll understand." Mo Yinfan watched below, his gaze steady. Mo Qian stood quietly beside him, not saying a word, but her eyes were similarly fixed on Mu Lin, eager to discern her interrogation methods.
Down below, Mu Lin continued to casually ask some seemingly irrelevant and mundane questions.
"What if I help you unbind the ropes?" Mu Lin asked with a smile, giving the impression of an innocent, kind person. "In return, you can tell me what I want to know, deal?" This way, she reasoned, she could avoid the trouble of taking matters into her own hands.
"No need." Unfortunately, his response was dismissive. The next moment, the ropes snapped, and Green Scorpion leisurely removed the ropes from his body and tossed them aside. He stared coldly at Mu Lin. "Perhaps the worst thing you’ve done today is sticking your nose in where it doesn’t belong." A death wish, he thought.
No sooner had his words landed than he launched himself toward Mu Lin, brandishing a frost-covered dagger that made a beeline for Mu Lin’s throat.
Mu Lin was in his grasp.
Ren Laifeng instinctively wanted to rush out to rescue Mu Lin, but was held back by Mo Yinfan.
"Let’s wait and see." Judging by Mu Lin’s skills, there’s no way she’d allow herself to be taken hostage that easily. Perhaps, she’s still playing along.
You have to admit, Mo was right.
"I suppose now it’s your turn to plead with me, isn’t it?" Green Scorpion laughed, his words dripping with sarcasm. "As a token of my appreciation for your disruption of my mission, I am wondering how to return the favor."
"Should I leave a few marks on your lovely face or nick your delicate neck? The choices really are rather difficult." He seemed to be bemoaning his dilemma.
"Weapons are blind, Mr. Green. Do be careful." Unfazed and without a trace of the fear and apprehension Green Scorpion had anticipated, Mu Lin’s voice held only calm and a faint tinge of amusement.
"It seems you’re not afraid at all." Green Scorpion retorted in a cold huff. Mu Lin’s reaction displeased him.
"True, but it seems to me that the one who should be afraid is you," Mu Lin’s pretty face was filled with a radiant smile. "Have you forgotten our current location?"
"Hmph, it’s just a police station." They’ve encountered far more peril than this measly station could pose.
"It’s just a police station." Mu Lin’s smile grew eerily wider. "Ren Laifeng, our friend here seems to view your territory with quite some contempt. Perhaps you should say a few words."
"Heh heh..." A soft chuckle echoed from the speaker overhead. "Doctor Mu, don’t take things too far. If things get out of hand and you end up disfigured, be careful that Jing wouldn’t take you back." He had initially intended to call her ’sister-in-law,’ but then remembered they were in a police station and decided to save himself the embarrassment.
Since their last meeting, Ren Laifeng had been specially looking up information about Mu Lin, and had discovered that his future sister-in-law was nothing short of extraordinary; she seemed capable of anything.
"Then just take me." Her sweet voice held a chilling undertone that made Ren Laifeng shiver instinctively. "Alright, sister-in-law, please don’t scare me. I don’t have the guts to compete with Jing for a woman. My life is precious and I have no intention of marching down the path of self-destruction."
At this point, he didn’t care about saving face any longer.
Mu Lin let out a cold snort.
Meanwhile, Green Scorpion, seeing that the two of them were completely unconcerned by his threats and were even joking around, felt the chill inside him intensify. As his icy dagger was about to press closer to Mu Lin’s neck, he was ready to make a power play and then kidnap Mu Lin to escape from the police station.
However, faced with so many armed officers—and as he didn’t have any weapons on him—how could he possibly evade a hailstorm of bullets? As soon as he’d step out, he’d be riddled with bullets.
Although he did look down on the so-called police station, that doesn’t mean he was oblivious to the obvious. First and foremost, he needed to get out of here.
Unfortunately for him, he had run into difficulty. He had wanted to make a move but was suddenly unable to.
"As they say, ’weapons are blind’; why aren’t you willing to be more careful?" Accompanied by a sigh, an exasperated Mu Lin slowly pushed the dagger that was only millimeters away from her forehead a bit forward. She leisurely exited the restricted space and turned around, her laughing eyes meeting the astonished ones before her.
"I’m sorry, but I think we should get down to business now."
