Chapter 277: Chapter 215 - The Truth About Xu Yibai (First Update)_2

To tell the truth, Yan Zilei felt regretful for Xu Yibai; once a business tycoon, favored by fortune, but he just fell from grace so easily and in all this time, it seemed like he still hadn’t withdrawn from the abyss he fell into.

But it figured. The feeling of suddenly falling from a great height into the depths of hell was not something any ordinary person could withstand; this notion seemed to coincide with Mu Lin’s beliefs quite accidentally.

Sometimes, Yan Zilei couldn’t help but wonder what would become of him if he were in similar circumstances.

Maybe he would lose his confidence as well. How could he still protect his beloved in such a state? Of course, he would never let such a thing happen - for Yanyan’s sake and also for his own.

Very soon, the other party arrived. However, when the man entered the office, gazing at the man in front of him radiating an aura of confidence, yet seemingly diminished, Yan Zilei found himself frozen.

He abruptly stood up from his seat and strode towards the man, throwing a punch to his shoulder, not causing pain but holding a palpable familiarity.

With a small smile playing at the corner of his lips, the man looked at Yan Zilei, "Yan, it’s been a long time since we last met."

Yan Zilei was startled, and then smiled back, "Yes, Bai. Indeed, it’s been a long time since we last saw each other." How long had it been? A year? Two years? Or perhaps even longer. He had lost count. Surprisingly, he could still meet him in such circumstances.

"Come, let’s sit over there." He lightly patted the man’s shoulder, leading him to sit on the nearby sofa. From the looks of it, they had a good relationship.

Indeed, although they are business partners, they admired each other after crossing swords, and gradually became one of each other’s few friends.

Once the secretary had served the coffee and left, Yan Zilei gazed at Xu Yibai, with a flicker of curiosity mixed in his usually tranquil eyes.

Wasn’t it said that Mr. Xu’s legs were irreparably damaged? It looked like a miracle indeed happened.

.....

After the secretary left, Yan Zilei looked at Xu Yibai and asked, "When did your legs get better?" his eyes filled with amazement.

"They’ve been all right for three months now." Xu Yibai’s lightly smiled, a warmth in his eyes. He had never imagined that his legs would be able to stand up completely, just like they do now.

"Which hospital treated you? That doctor’s medical skill..." left him completely in awe. Yan Zilei wondered if it was Mu Lin. After all, the treatment took place in B City, and the timing... coincided with Mu Lin’s disappearance. Was it all a coincidence?

The answer arrived the next second.

"It’s the military hospital in B City." Xu Yibai smiled, "Originally, my brother went to get an appointment for me, but that doctor, although skilled in medical techniques, was eccentric and didn’t want to treat me." Thinking of Mu Lin, the light in Xu Yibai’s eyes gradually softened, "But ended up treating me anyway."

Xu Yibai remembered that he owed her three favors; he wondered when she would come to collect. He was eagerly awaiting that.

"The military hospital?" Yan Zilei arched an eyebrow, "Don’t tell me you’re talking about that young Divine Doctor called Mu Lin?" That would indeed be a coincidence.

"You’ve heard about her too?" Xu Yibai was surprised that Mu Lin’s fame has spread to a far-off place like Ming City.

Then, Yan Zilei just shook his head lightly. He took a sip of the coffee, put it down, a thoughtful look in his eyes. "I wouldn’t say ’know’. But I did inquire about her."

Hearing this, Xu Yibai’s brow furrowed slightly. "Inquire? What’s the matter?"

"Well." Yan Zilei casually nodded, "My sister and her so-called fiancé went on a trip to B City awhile ago and almost had an accident?" Just the thought of it still sent shivers down his spine.

"What does this have to do with Mu Lin?" An eyebrow was raised in confusion.

"Yes." Nodding again, Yan Zilei’s lips curved into a faint smile, "She saved Yanyan." If he had the chance, he should perhaps thank this Divine Doctor Mu Lin.

So that’s what it was.

Xu Yibai nodded, "So you investigated Mu Lin because you were afraid she had ulterior motives towards getting close to Ya Yan." He understood his brother well, and he also understood his feelings for his non-blood related sister, so it wasn’t surprising that he did what he did.

Although he did not like his approach.

"It seems I worried over nothing." Yan Zilei gave a slight laugh, looking at Xu Yibai. It seemed that the medical skills of that little Divine Doctor Mu Lin were really unmatched.

After a brief pause, he continued, "What do you think this Divine Doctor Mu Lin is like?" Not only because of Yanyan, but he was also a bit curious.

"She possesses something that we don’t." Xu Yibai seen it only in Mu Lin, unattainable within the confines of reality.

"What is it?" Yan Zilei asked curiously.

"Freedom." He lightly smiled, "It’s a kind of freedom from everything, as if nothing in the world could bind her." Being able to act as she desires, free and unconstrained, it was truly admirable, and even enviable.

In fact, at that time, Xu Yibai realised that Mu Lin had deliberately fallen for his provocations. Perhaps she had already decided to help him. He just wondered why she chose to help him.

"In actuality, you don’t have to worry about her having any ulterior motives towards your sister. Based on my judgement, she probably helped her on a whim." She might have intended to save a life; "Or perhaps, Yan Yan did something at the time that made Mu Lin see her in a different light."

It was needless to say, Xu Yibai had got it spot on.
