Chapter 224: Chapter 184: Using Body (Trial) Medicine (Third Update)_1

Walking out of the office, Zhang Chen was planning to check if Mu Lin and his companions were at the door. As he arrived, he saw a group of spirited soldiers just getting out of the vehicle.

They looked impressive, much better than in the photos.

Granted, those photos were taken when they first enlisted and compared to now, they seemed like completely different people.

His gaze slid over Jing Youlan’s face. Zhang Chen could no longer see any trace of the flamboyant young master that Youlan used to be. All that was left was calm and composed demeanor.

It seems like serving in the military does change a man.

"Zhang." Xue Jianbing raised an eyebrow at Zhang Chen as he ascended the steps.

This was a sort of reunion for them.

Once, one of Jianbing’s friends got into trouble, which led to Xue Jianbing visiting the police station before joining the military. The officer who received him at that time was none other than the people’s policeman standing before him in the uniform.

Technically, they both represented law enforcement now. That sort of made them brethren.

Xue Jianbing recalled the man in front of him was named Zhang Chen. Jianbing remembered that he didn’t give him much face during their encounter, but ultimately Jianbing got what he wanted. At the same time, he admired Zhang Chen’s straightforward personality.

"I didn’t expect Xue Young Master to remember me." Zhang Chen smiled, neither overbearing nor servile.

Truthfully, in this group, he was most familiar with Xue Jianbing. Although the rumours painted Jianbing as a wastrel from a wealthy family, after Zhang Chen’s personal interaction with him, he found Jianbing to be a rather sensible person with his own principles. If Zhang Chen had treated any other young wealthy master the same way he had treated Jianbing earlier, he wouldn’t still be working in B City.

As for Jianbing’s undesirable reputation, almost comparable to Jing Youlan’s, Zhang Chen guessed it was probably tarnished by the actions of Jianbing’s followers committing atrocities under his name.

Upon hearing Zhang Chen’s words, Jianbing raised an eyebrow. "Well said." And then he remained silent.

...

Zhang Chen nodded at Jianbing and then his eyes started roaming, finally landing on Mu Lin. "Divine Doctor Mu."

This title again!

Mu Lin raised her eyebrows. "Do you know me?" She didn’t recall ever meeting this man before, nor had she ever visited a police station, although she almost had to once.

Mu Lin was referring to the incident involving Ya Yan.

Zhang Chen smiled. "My wife is a nurse at the Military Hospital. I once had the pleasure of meeting you when I went there to find her."

Addressing her with such respect was Zhang’s way of showing his appreciation for the work that Mu Lin was doing.

The personnel present were of higher stations than Mu Lin by quite a margin, but that was only due to their family backgrounds. If they didn’t come from powerful families, who would know them and who would give them any attention? But Mu Lin was different. Despite being of similar age, Mu Lin was respected and had gained everything, including her reputation, purely based on her own merit.

Just for her readiness to donate thirty million without hesitation, she deserved everyone’s respect, including his.

"Oh." So that was how he knew her.

Upon hearing his explanation, Mu Lin nodded indifferently.

Zhang Chen smiled and then told everyone, "Please follow me inside. We need to go through some basic formalities." Afterward, he turned around and led the way.

The others exchanged looks and followed him.

...

"Divine Doctor Mu! Hehe, Mu Lin, you’ve become pretty famous in this vast B City. You seem to bump into someone who recognizes you wherever you go." Jing Youlan teased. "Maybe you could use your title to sponge off others for meals when you’re out of money."

Upon hearing this, Mu Lin smiled, her eyes twinkling. "If you like it, I don’t mind giving it to you." She didn’t really care about the title or fame.

Jing Youlan: "No, I can’t accept that." Jing knew he could never live off others nor could he pretend to be a spiritual physician. The most he could do was con a few people. If he were to take on the title of a divine doctor, he feared he would turn into a ’ghost’ doctor soon enough.

Why? Because he would have been killed by the patients!

The title of Divine Doctor Mu was not new to the recruits. Xue Jianbing had addressed Mu Lin like this before in the military camp, but they never tried to provoke her. They thought it was just a common title. Now, seeing their Deputy Bureau Chief call her with such respect piqued their curiosity. They were wondering just how good Mu Lin’s medical skills were.
