Chapter 1016: Chapter 680: Fear of Death is Good! (7)

On a moonless night perfect for murder, a night of high winds and spreading poison!

Mu Lin realized that ever since he descended to the mortal world, he seemed to have really taken a liking to doing bad things in the dead of night.

Cough cough cough... don’t think dirty, not that kind of bad.

And here he was, yet again climbing walls in the middle of the night.

After negotiating with Otani Masao during the day, Mu Lin and Jing Chen left the estate and casually found a hotel to rest. Mu Lin, by the way... took another nap.

No helping it, he was still tired! He had an old fox to deal with in the evening, so it was best to rest up before facing off against someone.

Glancing inside, Mu Lin and Jing Chen exchanged looks and swiftly navigated through the expansive estate, while the guards inside were clueless to their presence.

Their destination was Anu Toji’s study room; it was said that his favorite place was the study, especially when he—had troubles on his mind.

Mu Lin believed that right now, he must have considerable troubles.

Anu Toji lived in a place opposite to and as opulent as the estate, with even the number of guards doubling that of the estate’s. It was indeed fitting for a boss out in the open, whereas Anu Toji was the secretive leader. The two were similar, but comparatively, the probability of the left taking action was always a few notches higher than theirs.

Looking at the guards inside, Mu Lin figured that he must be afraid of death.

Being afraid of death was good! There’s no fear if he’s afraid of death, the fear is if he’s not! After all, those who fear death are easier to control, aren’t they?

At this time, Anu Toji was sitting in his study room.

Doing what?

Raging!

A few days ago, he sent people out and heard that the experiment was nearly a success; currently still in the trial phase, he thought of bringing back the first batch of the successful products along with those kids, but unexpectedly, since yesterday, he’d lost all contact with his people, and till now hadn’t found any news.

He wondered if his secrets had been discovered by those people?

This was almost Anu Toji’s worst-case scenario.

Heaving a deep sigh, Anu Toji rose from his chair intending to walk out, but as he lifted his eyes, he saw a face with a teasing smile and another... expressionless handsome face. His brows furrowed, and he became wary, "Who are you?"

"Uninvited guests, should still be considered guests, I guess," Mu Lin cocked his head to look at Jing Chen, who silently nodded.

The wife says it, it must be right.

Originally, Mu Lin wanted to refer to themselves as ’gentlemen of the beam,’ but it seemed not quite fitting.

Well, they were actually good people.

Everyone: Finally admitting to being good people, that’s not easy!

Mu Lin: Compared to the person in front of them, rife with madness, how could they not be good? Even if they didn’t want to admit it, they couldn’t!

...

What Mu Lin meant was, after all, he was a legitimate person from a big clan; just as well, this Anu Toji understood this profound language.

Regardless, they were still coveting each other’s territory, a pity now that they’d grown strong, it was impossible to invade like before, thus, they resorted to such a method.

To cultivate a virus that only they could use, since only in this way could they round up everyone, and then they would strike amid the chaos.

Therefore, researching some things, especially language and history, etc., was normal; after all, how could one understand the context without understanding the language; Anu Toji’s study room also had numerous books on that subject.

Actually, among those messed-up graveyards, some individuals were their common people, ordinary people who failed the experiments; it was astounding that they would even use their own people for experiments.

Looking at Mu Lin, Anu Toji frowned, "Do you not fear that I will have you captured for barging into my study like this?" The two before his eyes put him on alert.

With so many guards outside and surveillance, yet these two entering as if into no man’s land, they were definitely no ordinary people! Most importantly, they were his enemies.

Anu Toji suspected that Mu Lin and Jing Chen were probably sent by someone to deal with him.

It seemed some people really thought too highly of themselves.

Seeing the wary look in the other’s eyes, the corners of Mu Lin’s mouth turned up in a smile that was not quite a smile.

Next moment she suddenly added:

"Oh right, I forgot, we should introduce ourselves first since we’re intruding." Mu Lin put on a look as if she had just awakened to the fact, but Anu Toji could feel the thick sarcasm emanating from her, along with an ill intent.

Anu Toji steadied the apprehension in his heart and chuckled, "You’re right. May I know what brings you to my residence so late at night?"

His heart heavy, his finger was already on the buzzer under the table, ready to press it.

Mu Lin looked at him leisurely, "Don’t be nervous, we’re not going to kill you; however, if you press that buzzer, I’m curious to see whether your guards arrive first, or I do... taking your life!"

As she spoke, she was already standing in front of his desk in an instant, her gaze lingering, profound, "It seems I would be faster than you." Mu Lin smiled deeply.

Anu Toji knew this was a threat.

As for Jing Chen, from beginning to end, he didn’t show any superfluous expression. This was his wife’s turf, he was only responsible for—cough, holding the fort! It was fine for him to just watch the show and be ready to step in whenever needed.

Pupils shrinking, Anu Toji hadn’t expected Mu Lin to be so fast! Then could her partner Jing Chen be even faster? No wonder the pair treated his heavily guarded residence as if it were unoccupied.

It seemed he had no choice but to keep dealing with them now.

Thinking this, he withdrew his hand from the buzzer and slowly sat down, "Tell me then, why have you broken into my residence in the middle of the night?" Since it’s not to kill him, then for what purpose?

He suddenly thought of something again.

This couldn’t help but bring to Anu Toji’s mind the matter he had been worrying about; perhaps this time, worry had turned into reality. Could it be that this man and woman had come because of that matter? That would mean they have been discovered and, even worse, were very likely doomed.

Looking at the face above him, Mu Lin snorted coldly with a mocking smile. Unfortunately, the warmth didn’t reach her eyes, "I think the question should actually be asked by us, shouldn’t it."

Upon seeing the person before her, Mu Lin suddenly felt that Otani Masao she had dealt with earlier was indeed much more likable.

Otani Masao: Thanks for the compliment.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about," Anu Toji’s face was expressionless again.

Hearing his response, the corner of Mu Lin’s mouth curled up, and she laughed instead of getting angry, "If that’s the case, I still need to show you... your masterpiece." With that, Mu Lin called out softly, "Sir."

At that moment, something like a projection appeared on the pristine white wall in front of Anu Toji’s eyes, and the next second, the chilling scenes began to unfold before him one by one.

"These, I think Mr. Anu should be quite familiar with, having probably seen them many times," Mu Lin’s eyes now carried a hint of murderous intent, "I believe that when you see the last person, you will be even more familiar." There, she had a special gift waiting for him.

"What’s the point of showing me these?" Yes, familiar, indeed very familiar. These things, when being developed, some documents would be sent to him, but the final document wasn’t sent to him.

To be extra safe, he had sent someone specifically to retrieve those items.

Indeed, it looked like his people were very likely in a dire situation.

The loss of over a dozen highly skilled researchers, and the virus that was about to be, or should be said to have been nearly successfully developed, was a massive blow to Anu Toji.

Mu Lin’s semblance of a smile had vanished. Facing such a man, she truly... couldn’t even muster a fake smile anymore. She snorted coldly, "Don’t worry, let’s continue watching."

Then, the images on the screen gradually moved back and soon, a woman was shown hoisted up by a tube through the clothing on her shoulder; it was as if she was suspended there.

Since her limbs were already disabled, she could only "stand" like that, otherwise she would have to lie down, and that would have been inconvenient for filming.

And on the woman’s face was full of fear and pleas for mercy.

Indeed, when the woman appeared, someone’s complexion completely changed.

Anu Toji never thought that Mu Lin and her party wouldn’t just kill the woman. They could kill the researchers in such a manner, why not just finish off the woman as well?

Anu Toji hesitated. What exactly did these people want? The woman was a close companion of his, often accompanying him to various functions, which is why he had sent someone after her, and hence everyone there was familiar with her; he sent her because of trust! And now she had become his vulnerable point.

But why leave this woman alive and not publicize these matters? What was the purpose?

Bellicose people will never understand; after doing so much, what one really wants in the end is still just peace; whether viewed as weak or easy to bully, one has always been protecting all the people on one’s land!

This was a sentiment Anu Toji would never be able to comprehend.

"Mr. Anu’s complexion doesn’t seem so good," Mu Lin said, her phoenix eyes frosty, "Did you see something that scared you, Mr. Anu?" While speaking, she went on as if to herself, "Indeed, what kind of beast would commit such a shocking act? Such a person, still alive now, don’t they have nightmares?"

She was genuinely—very curious!
