Chapter 76: Chapter 76 Playing the Ghost
Under the guidance of three individuals whose roles seemed ambiguous, possibly secretaries, bodyguards, or perhaps both, Feng Xue cradled a dictionary in one hand and clutched a stack of flashcards in the other. Amid the frictional sounds between her 25,000-carat evil gold anklet and the ground, her posture was more reminiscent of a saint about to preach to believers than that of a prisoner, as she entered a spacious room.
This place bore a resemblance to a prison visitation area, but was significantly larger. The entire room was divided into two sections by a transparent partition of unknown material, nearly ten centimeters thick. The not-so-smart-looking boss she had seen yesterday and the man in a wheelchair who appeared to have been tortured by Infinite City were now casually chatting on the other side of the partition, flanked by five or six bodyguards armed with firearms.
"Quite cautious," Feng Xue thought to herself, striding towards the two men. However, when she was less than five meters from the transparent wall, a hand stopped her, followed by a burst of gibberish that she couldn’t understand.
But the situation seemed clear enough—she wasn’t allowed to proceed any further.
Meanwhile, Jeston took out his mobile phone and fiddled with it. Soon after, a stiff male voice emanated from the speakers in the four corners of the room—
"Dear Mr. Han Meimei, I hope you can keep your promise, as it’s related to your life."
"Life? What does that mean? Is this a mistake from machine translation?" Feng Xue almost thought her thoughts had been compromised, but then she realized it was probably just an issue with the translation. Considering her current predicament, it didn’t need to be very accurate.
"yes," she replied, then took out her flashcards, showing the bodyguard nearby the few words she had copied the day before.
...
"What’s written on those?" Jeston inquired, eager to take a closer look, but considering the potential danger, he chose to stay put and asked the bodyguard instead.
"Boss, these papers say ’Ritual,’ ’Material,’ ’Venue,’ ’Probability.’"
Listening to the bodyguard read the words aloud, Jeston nodded and responded:
"I’ve prepared everything you asked for yesterday. The space here is open enough for you to conduct it, and as for the success rate, I have prepared plenty of materials. You can keep trying until you succeed."
The mobile phone translated his words into Chinese faithfully, and at the same time, a man nearby brought out a box from the corner, which contained the materials Feng Xue had copied from the dictionary for Jeston the day before.
Seeing Feng Xue start to rummage through the box, Fran’s brows furrowed. He immediately said:
"My friend, I must remind you, if he possesses a power akin to magic and creates a magic array with lethal force, we’re all going to be in trouble."
"If he truly knew magic, how could we have captured him? Besides, this is high-intensity resin capable of withstanding an RPG attack. I assure you if he attacks us, he’ll be the first to get blown away!"
Jeston knocked on the transparent wall confidently. Though he lacked talent, he did place great importance on his own safety.
Seeing Jeston’s stubbornness, Fran said no more. He simply glared at Feng Xue with the only good eye he had left, as if he was cursing her performance to fail.
Feng Xue was not concerned with much else at the moment, just checking the contents of the box.
Several bags of blood, presumably from the hospital blood bank, some cinnabar mercury – the main component of vermillion, along with items such as writing brushes and some ores to serve as a base material.
Having confirmed that everything he listed yesterday was present, Feng Xue felt somewhat relieved. His biggest concern was not the absence of materials but rather the intentional inclusion of "fakes" by the other party. If so, should he succeed, the pretense of the ritual would be exposed, leaving him in an unfavorable position.
However, it seemed that the other party lacked such awareness, all the items were genuine, and those bags of blood even bore the hospital’s tags. Judging by the temperature, they might have been taken from the blood bank not long ago.
"Now it’s time to show off my acting skills," Feng Xue took a deep breath, tore open the blood bags, and poured the iron-scented crimson liquid into a bowl. He then added some cinnabar and stirred while muttering under his breath, as if chanting spells.
Brushes soaked in blood began to trace on the floor tiled with white porcelain, drawing a standard prototype followed by a beautiful hexagram, indecipherable runes, and symbols representing the sun and the moon which Feng Xue filled in at their designated spots.
Feng Xue didn’t request any drawing aids, for that would make him seem unprofessional. Only by demonstrating a butcher’s skillful precision could he convince others that this was his regular practice.
And how was he to ensure he didn’t mess up?
Even though the Infinite City stickers were sealed, the knowledge and skills he had learned would not fade. His hands, having dissected a multitude of corpses, were steady and precise, and the sticker provided by Chen Xiyao had given him a foundation in platter and carving design.
Indeed, although what he was drawing was a bloodthirsty Magic Array, Feng Xue employed the skills of a chef arranging a dish.
The entire process took about half an hour before Feng Xue finally completed the Magic Array, less than a meter in diameter.
At that moment, both his wrists were somewhat swollen, and his ankles had even started to bleed.
However, now was not the time to focus on these discomforts. Feng Xue took another deep breath and took a piece of iron ore from the box and placed it in the center of the Array. While pretending to silently recite the supposed spells, he quietly opened the Golden Finger panel and accurately lined the reticle up with the piece of ore...
...
Feng Xue’s actions were actually quite tedious, but that did nothing to dampen Jeston’s excitement, despite Fran’s continuous predictions of failure—he paid them no heed.
In his eyes, the aesthetically pleasing blood-colored Array looked like a huge Money Printer; even if the process was dull, it was perfect!
"Here it comes! Here it comes!" Jeston exclaimed as Feng Xue finally placed the iron ore at the center of the Array, his anticipation surging. Fran, however, remained silent at this time, having said enough in the past half an hour. Now, all that was left was to witness the Demon’s failure!
Though Fran had been an ordinary person before entering that accursed place, years of Jeston’s patronage and driven by hatred, he had studied these Demons extensively. Therefore, he was confident that even if there was a genuine method to manufacture Magic Items, it certainly wouldn’t involve using a bunch of Real World materials!
After all, how could these exceedingly ordinary substances possibly turn into almost indestructible magical materials, undetectable by any known elements?
