Chapter 473: Chapter 473: No Man Can Resist Toys, Not Even Little Kids!
"Speaking of a myth... there once was a family... this couple... gave birth to a strange child..."
Humming a tune, Feng Xue arrived at Chentang Pass on a Civilian Land Ship.
Although the scenery along the way had prepared him, he was momentarily speechless when he stepped out of the skyport and saw the port city that was even more bustling than the real world’s magic capital.
Then, another bag of salt appeared in his hand.
"Sometimes I’m quite glad I don’t have a Sarcasm Energy Collector."
Feng Xue muttered under his breath, walking the streets. Although there was a clear difference in clothing style from the real world and the spoken language was only similar to Chinese, overall, it seemed like a modern society with considerable wealth among its citizens.
If there were any differences to be pointed out, it would be the building style that was filled with a strange sensation hard to describe—the kind that was obviously technological, yet insisted on a traditional aesthetic with flying eaves and towering arches.
Unlike the ancient practice where the higher the status, the taller the residence, this world had a modern air where those of lower status lived in tall buildings, and those of high status lived in bungalows.
These so-called bungalows, however, looked very high-tech yet still radiated an ancient charm—more imposing than Feng Xue’s own Suzhou-style villa (after all, one couldn’t compete with the size of the lot).
"There’s no whiff of Kaidan, nor are there the unique frameworks of phantoms..."
As Feng Xue extended his senses, he didn’t detect anything associated with Kaidan, which didn’t mean that this place was unaffected by Kaidan. On the contrary, in his view, this was a manifestation of the influence that phantoms had on the rules, already woven into the fabric of life in this world.
It was just like in today’s real world, where those who were not from Yan Country and underwent Martial Arts Training would also not feel any trace of Kaidan.
Of course, this might also be due to the world’s "Kaidan has died" scenario.
"!"
While Feng Xue was contemplating the relationship between the world’s rules and phantoms, a faint sense of "Identity" suddenly entered his perception.
That "Identity" was so subtle that no ordinary Kaidan of innate or acquired nature could detect it.
But for Feng Xue, who started from nothing, having experienced life in Babylon Tower with its "single-digit Identity," even the most minute "Identity" couldn’t escape his senses.
Adopting the local customs, Feng Xue pinched the Sword technique gently and drew in a sword light that suddenly enveloped his body, then he raced towards that faint trace of "Identity."
Feeling the benefits of his "Immortal" tag once again, a satisfied expression appeared on Feng Xue’s face. Tag feedback was different in different worlds; in a world without Immortals, a tag would be nothing more than a set of metaphysical inconsistencies, as long as it didn’t generate Kaidan. However, in a world with Immortals, the tag would fill up with Taoist spells and Immortal Techniques that even ordinary people could recognize.
"So that’s it, the Kaidan about Immortals in this world belongs to the more classical type. It makes sense—if it were during the era of Rune technology, the scientific system would have been assimilated by now."
Feng Xue tested the magic, which was quite low-level, only a bit more sophisticated than a Blinding Technique in terms of energy usage. He restrained his movements and settled in a corner because, at that moment, he had noticed the place where the "Identity" had settled.
A child—climbing over a wall—from the outer wall of a residence that seemed to have at least five sections.
The child looked no more than ten years old, with a small frame, dressed in a red bellyband, hair tied into two buns, a small golden bracelet on the left hand, and a red ribbon wrapped around the right hand.
This child was not a Kaidan. If anything, it was more like a "group Kaidan part," similar to how Expert martial artists of Yan Country could make a stand or walk horses on their arms.
"Strange. If Kaidan are dead in this world, then logically, group Kaidans should not exist either... Or could it be the influence of Kaidan derivatives? Or perhaps this world really has an unawakened Kaidan from the ’Divine Enthronement’ narrative?"
Watching the child, Feng Xue knew without thinking too hard that this must certainly be a notorious mischievous kid, yet it was for this very reason that his curiosity about the strange structure of this world grew even stronger.
After briefly pondering, he didn’t waste words, he took out a coffin board and crouched in the corner to start digging...
...
The kid standing on the wall was just about to leap down as before but unexpectedly hit an invisible barrier, and, feeling the ripples on the barrier, the child couldn’t help but puff up his cheeks.
"How did it open again? Could I have been exposed? Never mind, if I were exposed, it wouldn’t just be this!"
Muttering, the kid reached out to untie the red ribbon from his wrist, folded it, and then stretched it out tightly before pressing the taut edge against the invisible barrier.
This time, however, the red ribbon seemed to pass through the barrier without any resistance, and, upon seeing this, the kid immediately let go, the folded ribbon hovering in mid-air as though it was clamped by something.
"Phew, good, this trick still works," the kid murmured, carefully inserting his fingers along the folded edge of the ribbon, effortlessly prying it apart, then jumping forward and diving through the opening created by the red ribbon.
"Hehe, think you can keep me trapped? Dream on!"
The kid raised his palm, his thumb to his nose, and made a face before turning around, planning to find a beach to play on as usual. However, just then, a not-too-jarringly loud noise reached his ears—
"Cra-cra-cra..."
"What’s that noise?" The child quickly turned his head and saw a burly man clad in black sitting by the roadside, removing various parts from a template.
In front of him, two wooden figures were fighting each other like living beings, one punching, the other kicking, looking quite amusing.
For a moment, the kid was intrigued and couldn’t help but approach, pointing at the two fighting figures:
"How much for these little guys?"
Hearing the kid’s question, Feng Xue looked up and shook his head:
"Not for sale."
"Not for sale? Then what are you doing here with them?" The kid’s face showed a hint of dissatisfaction, but Feng Xue simply spread his hands and said:
"A few days ago, I was playing with some kids. I told them I could make fighting figures, but they didn’t believe me. I promised to show them today, but they never showed up, so I’m waiting for people!"
"They probably saw your figures from far away and felt embarrassed, so they didn’t dare to come!" The kid’s eyes flickered, then he said:
"A grown-up like you still plays with kids?"
"What else? Of course, I play with kids for fun. Should I find an adult to play with? Would they even be interested?"
Feng Xue tossed the coffin board aside, gathered several parts together, and quickly assembled another figure, this one brandishing a big sword, charging directly into the brawl between the two previous figures, taking them both down with a single slice.
Watching eagerly, the kid couldn’t help but say:
"It just so happens I’m out to play too, and you’re not going to get any company! Why don’t we play together?"
