Master of Kaidan
Chapter 452: The Expedition Begins

Chapter 452: Chapter 452: The Expedition Begins

"Actions are faster than I imagined!" She Tong yawned as she stood in front of the sewer maintenance entrance, today wearin a light gray little snake around her wrist instead of the small green snake that had lost a section of its tail last time, and in her hand, a rather large suitcase.

Compared to She Tong, the detective looked much more spirited, but the lingering purplish bruises on his forehead were enough to prove that the burden of using the fantastical item was still taking its toll.

"This world’s fantastical items have a strong K flavor, I wonder whether this big shot got the ability to craft K series equipment or fantastical items, or simply wrapped this world’s Dream World in K series mythology."

Though Feng Xuexin was curious, he had no intention of delving deeper into this matter.

From a certain perspective, the K series and the Kaidan systems are two very contradictory systems; the Kaidan system needs cognition to become powerful, while the K series brings about horrific consequences once recognized.

Even if its essence is science fiction, that indescribable cognition still naturally clashes with the Kaidan system.

But this big shot had used this unknowable yet unavoidable characteristic to build such a complete inheritance system, Feng Xuexin admired him greatly but did not want to mess with those things.

At least not until he had grown stronger.

What was that saying again?

I am not yet strong, when I am strong, things will change.

Uh, wait, that seems like a flag...

Feng Xuexin shook his head, no longer pondering these problematic issues, his current development path was good, there was no need to blindly follow others’ successes.

"Let’s begin." As to what Feng Xuexin was thinking, the other four obviously had no idea. With a prick, She Tong placed the suitcase on the ground, and as it opened, lots of twisted, writhing little snakes swarmed out, each only about the size of a palm, in a variety of bright colors, looking particularly creepy.

As She Tong issued commands through the "Cat’s Eye Stone," the originally chaotic snakes immediately lined up like well-trained soldiers and headed towards the sewer’s interior following the entry point.

Whether it was because the area was too vast, or because the previous side effects had not yet dissipated, this time the detective did not offer to help with psychic locational aid, and She Tong didn’t bring it up either. Instead, she fixed her gaze on her "Cat’s Eye Stone," while Feng Xuexin, with his sharp senses, could clearly feel that as time passed, She Tong’s breathing rate began to change and fine beads of sweat started to appear on her body, a sign not of fatigue but seemingly of anxiety.

"Is it the side effect of this fantastical item?" Feng Xuexin recalled the introduction to the fantastical item and couldn’t help but twitch his lips, thinking if this were reality, he’d probably need some extra salt right now?

Time gradually passed, the small gray snake had now disappeared from She Tong’s wrist, and her condition seemed to have slightly improved. Feng Xuexin didn’t ponder what this exactly meant, but simply waited quietly for the next change.

Regarding this world, he already had a simple plan; now he just needed to kill the creature that lodged in the sewer, then he could proceed.

Yes, like holding back a strong hand in mahjong, waiting for the opponent to set the stage first.

"Tsk! Why am I always jinxing myself today?"

Feng Xuexin wasn’t pleased with his state today, he couldn’t help but suspect it was the impact of dying twice in the dream worlds affecting his spirit.

"After waking up, I should first go back to the Babylon Tower and wash off the negative states. Hmm, I wonder if the tower’s facilities can remove this kind of spiritual pollution... If not, I’ll have to ask those immortals for a solution. Each one of them is a big shot, they surely can handle spiritual pollution, right?"

While Feng Xue was deep in her thoughts, She Tong suddenly stood up. A gray snake slid down from her skirt’s hem, but she completely ignored it and stared blankly into the distance, saying,

"Quantum bodies are capturing various creatures in the sewers. It looks like they urgently need a mass of flesh to grow or reproduce. I’ve told the snake swarm to withdraw. There should be some offspring that will chase after us."

"Understood!"

Qing Jin nodded, and with the activation of his phantom power, a blue cold flame rose in his hand.

Needle Shaker beckoned him not to rush and then, with a hand equipped with sturdy phantom gloves, forcefully twisted a gray-green long needle, sparkling with a metallic sheen, out of his quiver tied around his waist. He inserted the long needle into the bespoke arm crossbow on his left arm and then said to Qing Jin,

"Can you light the fire at the front of the crossbow arrow?"

"No problem." Although it was their first collaboration, Qing Jin immediately understood Needle Shaker’s intention. A not-too-large fireball rose in front of him. Needle Shaker took a deep breath, carefully pressed the mechanism, and arched his wrist. It seemed to avoid being scraped by the crossbow arrow.

These meticulous small movements, although fluidly executed by Needle Shaker, left no time for admiration as the sound of scales rubbing together was already emanating from the sewer manhole!

A vast number of little snakes surged out like a carpet. She Tong seemed to be counting something silently until a wave of pale green snakes emerged. She suddenly said,

"No need to wait for the ones behind!"

"Understood!" Needle Shaker didn’t hesitate to press the mechanism, and the gray-green barb, propelled by the arm crossbow, shot through the blue cold flame.

Theoretically, this was not enough to ignite the arrow, but the workings of phantom powers often didn’t adhere to physical laws, not to mention, this was also a dream.

The barb, wrapped in a faint blue light, shot into the sewer manhole. Needle Shaker seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, stepping back two steps and saying simultaneously,

"Step back, hold your breath, and don’t breathe until the green smoke clears."

No one was foolish enough to ask "where is the green smoke," as everyone silently held their breath and concentrated. Before long, gray-green smoke slowly drifted out from the sewer manhole, accompanied by mournful shrieks.

The gray-green smoke lasted only about ten seconds before disappearing, but the shrieks from the sewer continued.

Those screams, like someone being circumcised without anesthetic, made one’s hair stand on end, and the occasional monster rushing out of the manhole was even more alarming.

The monsters, which already appeared like minced meat molded together, now seemed as if they had endured a cruel Victorian-style dark cuisine, with blackish minced flesh cracking and oozing gray-green pus, mixing a nauseating acidic smell with a pungent smoked meat odor. Even with Feng Xue’s composure, there was an urge to vomit last night’s dinner.

Fortunately, these monsters emerging from the sewer didn’t last long before they completely collapsed, turning into clusters of strange things that looked like meat left out in the open during peak summer for half a month—

Except there were no maggots crawling.
