Chapter 408: Chapter 408: Facing the Shameless Projection, Feng Xue Decides to Cheat
"F*ck! Blue-Eyed White Dragon?!" Feng Xue’s face darkened, but she instantly understood which "True God" had mysteriously resurrected in the past two decades.
Seth God.
As a god of Ancient Egypt, he wasn’t particularly famous, and his presence had been further diminished by the Cross Sect (the Bible, for instance, describes Seth as Cain’s brother and Adam’s third son—a practice hardly unique to the Cross Sect, which loved to co-opt other mythologies, much like Rome did, even turning some Main Gods into demons, such as Beelzebub, a fine Canaan God who ended up dubbed as some sort of fly king), so plummeting into obscurity was the norm.
However, since twenty years ago, specifically after moving to Eastern Country to work in cultural creation, gods from every nook and cranny began to emerge, and Seth God was clearly one of the beneficiaries.
His original form should have been more along the lines of a creature with a head of a jackal, wolf, or wide-eared fox—a furred man, of course, with elements of crocodiles and hippos (stemming from legends like Seth killing Osiris or crocodiles eating Osiris, leading to resurrection failures).
But the youth standing before her, styled like a Japanese-style pretty boy and accompanied by a White Dragon, was clearly tied to the card game, Yu-Gi-Oh.
"White Dragon, is it? I’ll show you a dragon! Magic Card, Dragon Clan Sealing Pot! Get down!" Feng Xue pulled a card from her waist bag and flung it out. As the bizarrely shaped pottery jar appeared out of nowhere, the White Dragon, which had been about to bathe Feng Xue in destructive White Light from its gaping maw, immediately coiled up and lay down on the ground.
It wasn’t that Feng Xue had foreseen this; the dragon element was just too common in myths around the world. Not to mention Yan Country, there were the Naga from Buddhism and Hinduism, Nidhogg from Northern Europe, the Giant Dragon with a hundred heads from Greece, and the "you’re also a dragon" from the Cross Sect (the Sect liked to depict their enemies as ’dragons’, similar to how Eastern Country liked to refer to them as ’ghosts’).
So, it was quite reasonable for her to bring the Dragon Clan Sealing Pot, assuming Babylon Tower’s upper levels might be full of old relics, right?
In truth, not just that card—Feng Xue had also brought Divine Breath, Witch Hunting, Warrior Erasure, Insecticide, Demon Extermination, Acidic Storm... and a whole series of targeted cards. As long as there was a slight connection, Feng Xue could gain a huge advantage.
With the coordinates to that dumping ground for chessboard rejects, she had conjured up quite a number of such items that weren’t generally useful but were super handy when targeted—although they still weren’t treasured enough to be kept close to her heart.
But with the White Dragon down, Seth, a mere projection, revealed no emotions and simply waved his Bird Head Scepter, summoning all sorts of monsters with an Ancient Egyptian flair.
Furious sandstorms swept up like yellow clouds, dragging the monsters towards Feng Xue, and if only she had a lightning strike or a black hole card right then, it would have been a clean sweep—unfortunately, she didn’t even have an Explosive Armor card.
However, this was no issue for Feng Xue. She patted the qin case behind her, and the Orca Pillow leaped out. The red orca looked mischievous and cute, but the Tidal Power swirling atop it radiated the force of the ocean.
"Do you hear it? The ocean’s lament?"
Perhaps due to fighting in front of live cameras so frequently as of late, Feng Xue paid special attention to the show effect during combat. With a somewhat melancholic line, she swung her pillow fiercely.
The sound of the waves, merging with the whining of the orca, swept forward alongside a phantom of the orca itself. This strike was as ferocious as a tsunami and as enduring as an ocean current. Under the seemingly endless infusion of Inner Strength, none of the varying monsters even made it into Feng Xue’s melee range before they were blown away by the Tidal Power.
Against Seth God, who had absorbed the powers from Yu-Gi-Oh, Feng Xue didn’t slack off. As the Summoned Beast faded away, she already closed the distance, but this time, she exercised caution—cautious of the Sun in the sky, and of Seth’s shadow.
Even though it has indeed been twenty years since Yu-Gi-Oh was relevant, Feng Xue was actually worried about another possibility, that it wasn’t Yu-Gi-Oh that awakened the Seth God.
Because further back in time, there was an even earlier national-level manga.
Although Seth God only appeared briefly in a few Chapters of that manga, as a stepping stone for the protagonist, his popularity was by no means low.
Cautiously avoiding shadows, Feng Xue’s body had already reached the side of Seth God. His fist was already thrust forward, tearing through the Wind Sand Shield, which almost had no effect.
In the midst of the swirling sands, the delicate and seemingly fragile young man turned his face, which showed neither sadness nor joy. Feng Xue didn’t know if this was because the projection lacked emotions or if the original was like this, but it didn’t matter because his fist had already reached the young man’s face.
Duang—
The deafening sound dispersed the surrounding sands, and Feng Xue was slightly surprised to see the thing that blocked his punch at the last moment. It was no longer the Bird-headed Scepter that Seth God had been holding but a long-handled battle-ax with splendid engravings.
"Although Seth, this god of storms and deserts, didn’t get along with Osiris and Horus, it seems he was also one of Ancient Egypt’s martial and war gods," Feng Xue remarked with a grin, suddenly kicking hard at the opponent’s shin.
Against an expert of the same realm, Feng Xue would usually need to predict two or more moves ahead to use such a technique. But now, having closed the distance to within thirty centimeters against a user of large, sweeping weapons like Seth God, he had no reason to be timid!
Charge!
Without any hindrance, Feng Xue’s foot landed precisely on Seth’s face, and even though he didn’t hear the pleasing sound of a crack, the pressure told him that the kick must have at least caused a bone fracture.
Yet Seth, unexpectedly, showed no signs of weakness. Instead, he swung his battle-ax forcefully, pushing Feng Xue back, and charged at him as if completely oblivious to pain.
"Damn, do all Ancient Egyptian gods lack the concept of injury?" Feng Xue suddenly recalled Osiris, who Seth had dismembered; had it not been for being eaten by crocodiles, he would have resurrected after being pieced back together. This made him feel that Ancient Egyptian mythology was outrageous.
Realizing that a war of attrition might be playing right into the opponent’s hands, he immediately altered his strategy.
It must be said that the projections manufactured by Infinite City are, in some ways, more troublesome than the originals they were sampled from. Due to their inherent projection nature, many PVP skills were unusable, and under normal circumstances, no one would specifically grind out a Kaidan entry for "Projection Special Attack."
Taking a deep breath, Feng Xue decided to stop probing and directly pulled out the All Things Squeezing Driver from his chest—
"SCLAS DRIVER"
"KILLER WHALE JELLY"
"Transform!"
