Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Fighting the "Fake" Streamer

"Good evening, everyone. I’m Bert Wall, the infamous anti-fraud streamer, and tonight we’re going to visit a haunted house."

[Seeing the live streamer made me breathe a sigh of relief.]

[I thought I’d never see the streamer go live again.]

[He ended the stream so abruptly yesterday, I thought it was cut off by a ghost.]

[Did the streamer sleep well last night?]

...

"What are you all talking about?" Bert looked at the barrage of comments and couldn’t help but smirk:

"I keep telling you to ’Believe in Science’. I eat well and sleep soundly, what’s the issue? I think George Augustus makes a lot of sense. In this day and age, we’re literally entertaining ourselves to death, even ghosts are being used for marketing. I might just vote for him, hoping he can rectify this unhealthy trend once he’s elected!"

[LOL, do you think the ghost stories were started by someone else?]

[LOL, the top ghost promoter on the net campaigning for an anti-superstition candidate!]

[LOL, the first thing George wants to shut down is your stream!]

[LOL, I used to believe in science before watching your stream!]

[LOL...]

In just a few seconds, all the comments adopted the same mocking tone, which made Feng Xue marvel at how alike the thoughts of netizens in the information era were.

He shook his head, decided not to discuss this topic further—a light joke here and there, but saying too much could intertwine his two identities.

After greeting the elites waiting at the apartment entrance, Bert received an electronic key and started looking for the apartment number as he said:

"Today, I’m visiting the Rhein River District, which has seen some unpleasant events previously. Invited by the property owners, I’m here to dispel superstitions..."

[Rhein River District...man, isn’t even the cheapest house there like 30 million to start with?]

[30 million? That’s just the cost! People who can afford to buy there, would they settle for a tiny 20-square-meter studio?]

[Damn! Is Bert visiting the notorious haunted house in District 19, House 13?]

[I think I heard about it, the district where a corporate director died.]

[Now that you mention it, isn’t it the house where six consecutive homeowners died?]

[Isn’t the boss confused by inviting a streamer to debunk myths? Isn’t that like confirming the rumors?]

[Don’t you get it? That’s exactly the point of confirmation! Without the streamer, who knows how people died? Once the streamer arrives and identifies it’s the work of ghosts, then invite Dunn over to capture them, and suddenly the house is cleansed!]

[Damn, you speak like a true VIP commenter—makes total sense!]

...

Seeing the commotion in the live stream room, Feng Xue shook his head, but continued to explain:

"Speaking of being dragged to haunted houses and the like since childhood, this is the first time that they explicitly tell you it’s just to cleanse the house’s reputation. I must say, it’s typical of the Rhein River, totally different from those small-time property developers!"

[Back then you were nothing, but now you’re a mega streamer with millions of followers!]

Immediately, flattering comments flooded the chat, making Feng Xue smile despite the doubt that even a hundred thousand of these so-called millions of followers were real people. But at least he could feel the surge of "Identity" flowing into him under the label of "famous streamer."

Using a digital key, Feng Xue entered the luxurious apartment.

Though it was called an apartment, its duplex structure spanning over 200 square meters didn’t differ much from a villa.

At this point, almost all the furniture in the apartment had been removed and the walls had been repainted. It didn’t resemble the so-called haunted house in the slightest, but every time Mr. Bert opened a room door, the audience in the live stream screamed.

However, Feng Xue wasn’t scared at all, as he had already figured out the issues with the house through various means.

Plainly speaking, it was all about pinning a murder on ghosts, including inviting Feng Xue over to intentionally corroborate the haunting, thus completely diverting suspicion from someone.

Yet, the cyber world was ultimately an "entertainment to death" world. No one cared about trivial details. Compared to the boring and uninteresting truth that "it was all man-made," netizens obviously preferred the sensational story of "a ghost committing murder."

Thus, Feng Xue had no intention of being the boring person revealing the secrets of magic, nor did he plan to tax his brain turning the technically obtained data into deductive reasoning.

So, he simply went with the flow and decided to act as a ghost-debunking streamer. As for the murderer... it wouldn’t be long before they were also "killed by a ghost."

...

Although the chat performance was top-notch, the actual streaming process was hardly interesting—it was just a grown man wandering around a room.

As the viewers’ patience began to wear thin with the drab, empty rooms, Feng Xue figured it was about time. He opened his carry-on suitcase, took out a yoga mat, and laid it on the living room floor, casually saying:

"As you’ve all seen, I’ve checked the entire apartment and there are no ghosts. However, since the sponsor requested I stay the night, I might as well sleep on the floor."

With that, he turned on his device and started a decryption game, continuing:

"I’m bored anyway, so I’ll just stream myself playing some puzzle games. This game has a rating of 9.9, it looks pretty good. It’s a perfect chance for you to see the skills of the so-called master detective!"

As he spoke, viewers watched as Bert began to immerse himself in a paranormal-themed puzzle game.

Some viewers, seeing no fun to be had, simply switched tabs to watch a neighboring tea seller, while others, interested in puzzle games, started to watch him play.

However, this loss of viewers didn’t last long. About three minutes later, Bert reached a small game level.

Seeing the spirit board on the screen (similar to mediums like dish or pen spirits), Mr. Bert let out a disdainful laugh—

"Tsk tsk, it’s 2077 and they’re still using these little gimmicks. I don’t need any clues; I could brute force it. I bet the level’s password is either ’Descent’ or ’Summon’..."

As he spoke, Feng Xue began to maneuver the in-game spirit board, entering the word "Descent" on screen.

But at that moment, the viewers perked up—not because they had played the game before, but because, as seasoned viewers of this stream, they had noticed that whenever the host mentioned "It’s 2077," something was bound to happen next.

Sure enough, as the spirit board on the screen began to tremble, a slight current seemed to rise in the previously calm apartment.

Bert immediately grumbled in dissatisfaction:

"The visuals are average, but the sensory effects are not bad..."

However, just as he uttered these words, the viewers watching through holographic mode clearly saw a pale figure slowly emerge from behind Bert, out of the wall...
