Master of Kaidan -
Chapter 315 New World
Chapter 315: Chapter 315 New World
Watching the puffed-up green-haired (tentacled) girl swiftly pack a house into a suitcase, Feng Xue’s mouth twitched slightly; the model before him was distinctly reminiscent of a feminization filter bobblehead of a noodle presser he had bought in his past life. It was so accurately reproduced that he didn’t dare to take the filter off.
However, no matter what, the house was secured, and Feng Xue moved his Soviet-style villa to the eleventh floor, then began his daily ritual of reforging.
The challenges of the eleventh floor were easier than he had anticipated. On his first attempt, he acquired property, which ignited a desire to continue conquering higher levels.
But he quickly suppressed his suicidal thoughts.
The primary reasons he could defeat the unknown Kaidan boiled down to three factors—
First, the Squeezing Driver helped him withstand the effects of the deep-sea environment.
Second, the Feminization Filter allowed him to avoid potential mental pollution.
Third, Abe Tetsuya ignored the formidable life force that came with a massive body shape.
It was these three coincidences combined that led to Feng Xue’s success.
After adjusting the Challenge Space, Feng Xue took out materials purchased from the landfill and commenced another round of grand construction. Perhaps his luck was indeed good today; even though he didn’t craft anything as divine as the Squeezing Driver, he still came across a few items that would be deemed exceptional in the black market of Infinite City.
"Well, it’s better than nothing," Feng Xue said as he neatly bundled assorted items like cameras, shiitake mushrooms, and masks into a cloth before starting to daydream while staring at a yogurt carton.
Indeed, following the Lucky Milk, this time he had integrated a bottle of Lucky Yogurt.
All things considered, judging from the output, it was at least stronger than the last batch of milk.
This time, in addition to the Fortune Cat’s stroke of luck, he had also gained the Transport Iron Man and Gathering Skill.
[The Cat’s Transport Iron Man] skill allowed him to remain in the "Transport" state without getting stunned by attacks, while [The Cat’s Gathering Skill] increased the number of resource gathering attempts.
Of course, these were all effects in the game; as for what kind of changes would occur in the real world, Feng Xue was entirely clueless.
"At least it’s better than Strong Challenger Skill." Feng Xue reflected on the last trip across worlds where his screen was swamped with red dots. Even though he knew not to blame the beverage, he still felt intimidated.
In the following days, Feng Xue kept to the seclusion of not stepping outside his villa, either reforging fantastical artifacts or practicing martial arts and copying books.
If there were any changes to mention, it was now that he needed to pack up all his possessions even when going to bathe, just to avoid another incident of traveling naked.
It’s unclear whether it was the influence of the cat beverage increasing the odds of opening doors, but on the third night after drinking the Lucky Yogurt, his bedroom door became stuck, and on the other side was a gloomy, cramped room.
"Ts... it looks like a modern world," Feng Xue observed the room across the door, deducing from the dust that it had been a long time since anyone had visited.
"An abandoned bedroom? Seems like I’m still in luck?" Feng Xue checked his equipment again, first slipping into the formal evening wear of the Phantom of the Opera, donning the Yellow Robe, then the Iron Armor, and transforming into a Masked Rider.
After wearing all the equipment he could put to use, he employed Hermit Power to disguise himself as an artsy youth wearing a yellow trench coat and carrying a guitar case, though this time, he also held a walking stick in his hand.
...
Stepping through the doorway, Feng Xue stood upon the ground of the Otherworld. Though he had no idea how much time had elapsed during the crossing, the scene inside his bedroom remained largely unchanged from when he’d entered the door.
It seemed as though his hands were empty, but they were actually feeling the furniture in the room through two layers of armor. The room was small, barely large enough for a bed, but traces on the wall showed where posters or photographs might once have hung.
Lifting the dust-covered blanket carrying a faint musty odor, Feng Xue saw the stained sheets but no other particular signs.
"I can pretty much confirm it’s a modern world, just not sure about the level of technology. The stains on the bed seem to be around the pillow area; maybe from eating in bed?"
Feng Xue muttered to himself, but judging from the bedding, fabric, and exactness of the furniture’s construction, the industrial level seemed to be around the late 20th century to the early 21st century.
If one considered that such a cramped house clearly wasn’t the dwelling of the wealthy, then the estimation of the technological level could be adjusted upward.
Realizing that looking further wouldn’t yield any more information, Feng Xue turned and placed his hand back on the room’s only door. With the 24-hour cooldown starting to count down, for Feng Xue, the doorway became nothing more than a normal door.
"Click..."
The doorknob turned, and the harsh noise immediately filled the room; an unprepared Feng Xue was startled by the sudden racket and almost assumed a combat stance. However, he quickly calmed himself, recognizing that it was merely the messy noise of life.
Car horns, the last-day announcements blasting from shop speakers, Square dance music, public broadcasts...
All kinds of sounds mixed together, and yet there wasn’t a single trace of them before he opened the door.
"I take it back," Feng Xue said, grimacing slightly as he looked toward the end of the narrow corridor and the small window flickering with light pollution—
"At least the soundproofing of this house beats that of the early 21st century."
Walking down the narrow hallway, carefully avoiding the doors that could open at any time, Feng Xue felt a wave of nostalgia for the tube building he lived in during his last childhood. This corridor, however, was more cramped than those buildings, but thankfully, it was clear of clutter and communal kitchens. Instead, a room at the end was marked with what seemed to be gendered symbols—different from Earth’s but undoubtedly indicating a bathroom.
Approaching the modest-sized window, Feng Xue looked outside to see towering skyscrapers, neon signs flashing, dazzling lights, and sci-fi-like space projections, as well as the occasional disturbing engine noise from the passing Ghost riders.
"Damn, with this vibe, I almost thought I was still in the South District!"
Feng Xue grinned, looking back at the pigeonhole-like dwelling and then at the quintessential steel jungle outside.
"High-tech, low life, calling it a Cyberpunk World wouldn’t be wrong, right?"
