Master of Kaidan
Chapter 182: Precautions for Climbing the Tower

Chapter 182: Chapter 182: Precautions for Climbing the Tower

Stepping out the door, Feng Xue immediately saw two young men dressed like extras standing at the entrance. Almost subconsciously, she pulled up her cloak, activated her Skill, and teleported away.

The two young men, seeing a big shot emerge from the door, immediately put on somewhat ingratiating smiles, wanting to ask something, but before they could speak, the big shot in front of them had vanished without a trace.

In the face of this, the two could only look at each other and then continue to stand guard in their original spot.

Seeing that no one was following her, Feng Xue finally felt relieved. She closed the Pardon Bell that was already in her hand, hailed a taxi and went straight to her clean house.

After spending 100,000 Tower Coins on taxi fare, Feng Xue arrived at the doorstep of her house. She pushed open the door and didn’t smell anything foul.

"It looks like the money I gave Huo Mu for house-sitting wasn’t wasted." Observing the neatness of the interior, Feng Xue glanced at the sign that read "Electrified gate" and, after confirming there was indeed no Corpse, she threw herself onto the sofa.

However, she didn’t immediately take out her work badge but instead took out her phone and directly dialed Jessica’s number, yet unsurprisingly it did not connect.

"Useless if you can’t even make cross-realm calls!"

Feng Xue muttered Sarcasm as she nonchalantly tossed the salt aside, while also sending a sliver of her Consciousness to beat up the ATM.

The results of her Meditation on the garbage mountain were finally paying off initially applied; that ability to detach a small portion of her Consciousness from the main Consciousness had a new use besides observing the external world when meditating—

Summoning the Ambulance Demon.

After all, the condition for the Ambulance Demon’s Descent was Consciousness. It didn’t matter whether all of the Consciousness descended or just a thread, there was no difference. And there was no need to worry about being able to beat the ATM; as long as it wasn’t a person with disabilities arriving, relying on the Martial Arts Knowledge she owned, just using acupoint techniques and grappling moves was enough to thrash most ATMs.

Even if she really couldn’t beat it, it wasn’t too late to send over all her Consciousness then.

After settling all that, Feng Xue finally took out her badge, which she hadn’t used much in almost a year, and made a call to Huo Mu.

"Boss, you’re back?"

Huo Mu’s tone remained humble and respectful, but under the protection of the Heart of Bright Mirror, Feng Xue could feel his surprise through the badge.

"Yeah, I was planning to stay a few more days, but tomorrow is the Tower of Babylon’s challenge month, isn’t it? So I came back."

Feng Xue said casually, but Huo Mu inwardly adjusted his opinion of her quite a bit higher.

She must have been inside the gate for at least ten months, which meant at least thirty million Tower Coins had been spent, not including the large amount of packing cloth she bought before leaving and the ticket money for the gate. Though she was a Copyist, one couldn’t rely on copying in reality to gain Knowledge.

This meant that even if she hadn’t become a Kaidan, she was a big shot with many labels that could also bring in a high income in the real world.

Taking a deep breath, Huo Mu adjusted his attitude and then said:

"Boss, do you want me to help you arrange the challenge?"

"Basically, after all, I don’t know much about it, and you weren’t very clear about the relevant rules and details you mentioned last time."

Although Feng Xue’s words were plain, Huo Mu felt there was a hint of warning in them. After pondering, whether he was overthinking it or not, it was time to show some attitude, so he said:

"Boss, I don’t even have a proper ’True Label,’ I can’t even get past the basic stages, let alone enter the official trials. So what I can tell you is quite limited. Of course, I’m clear about some common knowledge, but it’s not very clear when spoken. If you have time, I can come over right now."

"That’s fine."

After Feng Xue finished speaking, she hung up the phone. In less than five minutes, Huo Mu was at her door.

"Boss, this is the Hundred Tales organization’s access rules for this year. You should read it first, and after that, I’ll explain to you about the Tower of Babylon."

Looking at the booklet that Huo Mu passed over, masquerading as a Book, Feng Xue nodded to let him sit down and then started flipping through it.

Apparently, although Hundred Tales would open the residential area every December, not everyone could get through (otherwise there would be no point in the monopoly). Aside from being a true Kaidan, one had to pay a specific entry fee or pass some sort of test to qualify.

However, Feng Xue glanced at it and set it aside, because now, she had already become a Kaidan.

Seeing the attitude displayed by Feng Xue, Huo Mu also immediately realized this and became even more deferential. He immediately said,

"Challenging the Tower of Babylon itself has no restrictions; one can enter the tower at any time to challenge the guardian of the corresponding level.

I have already told you that defeating the guardian grants the passage right for that level, but there are some details above that."

Hearing Huo Mu say this, Feng Xue immediately understood his meaning and took out a Tower Coin note with a denomination of 100,000, placing it on the table and saying,

"Is this enough?"

"Ten thousand is enough," Huo Mu shook his head, accepted the paper money, and handed back 90,000, then continued,

"You will understand these contents when you undertake the challenge, but if I tell you in advance, you can also be prepared before the challenge."

Saying this, he took out a piece of burlap that had ten little figures equipped with different weapons drawn on it.

Pointing to these figures, Huo Mu introduced them to Feng Xue:

"In the challenges of the Tower of Babylon, the guardians can be broadly categorized into ten combat types:

"Assassin Type, skilled in stealth and assassination;

"Warrior Type, skilled in frontal combat;

"Knight Type, skilled in mobile combat;

"Ranger Type, adept at mid to short-range guerrilla warfare;

"Shooter Type, skilled in mid-range shooting;

"Sniper Type, skilled in long-range precision strikes;

"Casting Type, possessing magical abilities and a variety of methods;

"Superpower Type, possessing some special power and constructing a combat system around it;

"Cluster Type, having multiple enemies, but with each individual being relatively weaker;

"Universal Type, without any obvious weak points.

"Each challenge will randomly present one of these ten types, so in the first challenge, you can repeatedly enter and exit to refresh and face an enemy type you are skilled against, thereby obtaining the most basic passage right.

"However, what you need to be aware of is that every ten levels of the Tower of Babylon form a group, and once you defeat a guardian, that type of guardian will no longer appear in that group. This means that to enter the next group, you must defeat all ten types of guardians.

"Of course, there are exceptions. If you can defeat a room owner and obtain the Residence Right, you can skip that group and directly challenge the next group’s passage right. For example, if you have the Residence Right to the Third Layer, then you can directly challenge the guardian of the eleventh layer."

"What about the cost? There must be a price for such a leap, right?" Feng Xue raised her eyebrows, but Huo Mu shook his head,

"There is no price. However, the division of every ten levels into a group in the Tower of Babel isn’t just a cycle for guardians; it also indicates a division of difficulty. With every ten levels you climb, the strength of the guardians increases a notch.

"It’s said that at higher levels, the classification of guardians becomes less strict. For instance, warriors who use a bit of magic, knights who can fight without horses, mages who summon a plethora of magical creatures, and so on.

"So, in some sense, the lower-level guardians are actually excellent for practice. You won’t die or truly get injured in combat with them, and it is relatively safer to defeat all ten types of guardians before moving on to the next group."

Listening to Huo Mu’s explanation, Feng Xue nodded slightly, then suddenly asked as if something occurred to her,

"You said one won’t truly get injured or die when challenging guardians; what about challenging room owners?"

However, facing this question, Huo Mu gave a universally applicable answer—

"I don’t know."
