Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Mutual Benefit

Jessica Swale was born into a wealthy Victorian family, and thanks to the scale of her family’s wealth and her father’s favoritism, she did not need to consider political marriage. Her outstanding older brother also relieved her of any worries about how to take over the family business.

Under the guidance of an excellent home tutor, she completed all the coursework that a contemporary college student should grasp by the age of fifteen, and then she became an extreme sports enthusiast.

This was a choice made by a girl who had everything from childhood and hence lacked the desire for "things she wanted."

Mountain climbing, skydiving, racing, rock climbing, even survival in the jungle with only a small knife in hand... Maybe it was her privileged life that laid a solid foundation for her, or maybe she truly had a talent in this area, but no matter how dangerous the sport was, she was able to get the hang of it quickly and then lose interest after a brief period of thrills and excitement.

At the age of nineteen, she returned to her hometown and, after resting for two months, thought of a career that was stimulating enough, legitimate enough, and could put everything she had learned from her adventurous years into play—

A war correspondent.

But her father, who had always provided her with anything she wanted, refused her request and threw her a small tabloid paper he had acquired from somewhere, making it clear to her—

You want to be a war correspondent? Fine, make this tabloid paper credible enough to publish war correspondent reports first!

So Mrs. Jessica was forced to enter a tabloid that was not on the verge of closing but did not carry much weight, becoming a journalist for a gossip paper.

Jessica was well aware that although she was favored, once the old man had made a decision, it was no longer a matter that could be resolved by acting spoiled.

Therefore, the only way for her to achieve her goal was to do as her father said.

The best way to grow a gossip tabloid into a significant scale was to break a few big news stories—preferably exclusive ones.

...

Feng Xue had no idea what the wealthy woman in front of him was thinking, but when he heard that she was planning to do an "exclusive interview," he was stopped in his tracks. His original thought of cooperating only for coins had been thrown out of the window, and he now even had the luxurious thought of "how could one exclusive interview be enough, it would be better to have several."

Kidding, that was an exclusive interview! The wealthy woman’s exclusive interview!

What did that mean? It meant that even if no one watched the report, the wealthy woman would buy traffic!

Don’t you understand the value of traffic?

For Wu Lai, traffic was life!

Seeing Feng Xue spacing out, Jessica turned her head, then caught sight of a BMW by the roadside, and said indifferently,

"I don’t have a parking space at my current place, just parking by the roadside is fine, it’s not like it will cost much."

"..." Feng Xue only stretched his lips, then followed behind Jessica. In a few steps, they arrived at Jessica’s home.

Like the BMW, although the two-story villa in front of them would probably be unaffordable for the average person, for the wealthy woman Jessica, who measures the value of a few pieces of clothing in tens of thousands of pounds, it looked slightly shabby.

However, the wealthy woman didn’t seem to care much, as she took out her keys, unlocked the door, and waved to Feng Xue:

"Come in," she said.

Feng Xue squinted his eyes, channeled his inner strength to his ears to make sure there was no unusual noise around, and his spiritual sense detected no sense of danger—just occasionally a few stares, none with any hostility. Considering this wealthy lady’s status, Feng Xue guessed they might belong to bodyguards sent by her family.

Upon confirming there was no danger, Feng Xue finally took a step forward and entered this room which was hard to describe.

The house was more akin to a neon-lit stand-alone home rather than a villa. Roughly divided into two levels, the living area was about 150 square meters. The interior space wasn’t exactly large but certainly not too small either. Various pieces of furniture and decorations seemed ordinary but the materials used could startle any connoisseur.

It was the kind of place where an ordinary person could work their whole life and still not afford to pay for any damage they might accidentally cause.

"Have a seat. Would you like some coffee?" Jessica went about making coffee for herself. Without any fuss, Feng Xue threw his bulky coat aside and casually sat in an armchair, shaking his head:

"Just water for me."

"Okay." Jessica’s eyes flickered when she saw Feng Xue’s refined dress after he took off his outerwear. She immediately placed a fine porcelain cup, which seemed to have a sense of age, in front of Feng Xue. Then, she took out a recording pen, a notebook, and other tools from her handbag, eagerly brandishing a coin:

"Let me give you an interview."

Even though Feng Xue was inclined to volunteer his time for nothing, seeing her take out a coin relieved him. This thing was far more troublesome to use than he had imagined, but once he grasped the hidden rules, it proved to be much more useful than he had anticipated.

As he refined his original plan in his mind, he took the coin that Jessica offered and nodded:

"Where should we start?"

"How about we begin with a basic self-introduction? What’s your name?" Jessica activated her recording pen, but Feng Xue shook his head:

"I cannot say that."

"Oh, I understand. The true name of a demon, right?" Jessica wasn’t the slightest bit upset by Feng Xue’s refusal to answer. Instead, she nodded her head as if she had suddenly realized something, then asked:

"Then can you tell me about your identity? The Coin Demon, or perhaps a demon chef? Or are you both?"

Feng Xue, who had anticipated Jessica would ask this question, straightened his slightly disheveled collar due to forcibly putting on an outer layer, and revealed a gentle smile:

"I am ’Trade,’ ’Cooking’ is another. However, I’m not acquainted with him, so if there’s a request for ’Cooking’ to prepare a meal, I would impersonate him to do so. Of course, there wouldn’t be any difference in the outcome, after all, this is a trade."

"’Trade’ and ’Cooking’... that’s ’Greed’ and ’Gluttony,’ isn’t it?" Jessica spoke with sarcasm, but Feng Xue wore a serious expression as he replied:

"You can interpret it that way if you like. However, it’s your problem if people become greedy through my trades or overeat due to ’Cooking’s’ cooking; it’s not our objective. Besides, the term ’demon’ in your country is essentially pejorative. In fact, in the so-called Cross Sect’s scriptures, most demons are slander against other civilizations’ faiths."

Although Jessica could be considered a nominal believer of the Cross Sect—more out of family influence than conviction—being a modern person in the information age, she was aware that what he said was indeed true.

Therefore, she wasn’t infuriated by this "demon’s" disrespect towards the Cross Sect. Instead, she inquired with a probing tone:

"So, Mr. ’Trade,’ what is the purpose of you spreading fake coins? Also, is it you who has been destroying Cross Sect buildings recently? Or perhaps it’s ’Wrath’?"
