Chapter 152: Chapter 152 Take Me Away
At the moment he saw the person, Feng Xue was baffled because, before deciding to attend this precarious gathering, he had meticulously scoped out the area.
According to his prior research, this store should have been the one with the least foot traffic near Saint George Avenue. The garments here were priced exorbitantly high, and even in the affluent Queen’s District, it wasn’t an establishment that received daily patrons. Furthermore, the spot Feng Xue chose was supposed to be the most secluded dressing room in the shop. He simply couldn’t understand why anyone would be in that dressing room at this time!
The young woman standing in front of Feng Xue also displayed a startled expression, but before she could speak, the man opposite suddenly pulled out a coin from his pocket and pressed it into her hand—
"Keep quiet."
"Ah, okay." Instinctively, the woman in the dressing room clenched her fist and then slowly nodded her head, dazed. She didn’t bother about the clothes she was halfway through changing and just stood there, creating a brief moment of silence in the room.
However, this silence didn’t last long, because the consciousness Feng Xue had left in his "Physical Avatar" had automatically been recovered.
Undoubtedly, that avatar had been "destroyed"—not in the sense that it was killed, but because the Physical Avatar card was a trap card that could only be activated when the enemy gained the upper hand (the opponent’s turn). When he was in control (his turn), any summoned avatars would automatically be destroyed.
His disengagement from conflict seemed to be judged as him taking the initiative, yet his current position was just a wall away from heavily ambushed Saint George Avenue. Considering the previous presence of a sniper, he had no doubt that the surrounding streets were also under surveillance, merely lacking a proper excuse to evacuate the public.
After a brief reflection, Feng Xue pulled out another coin and placed it into the hand of the woman who was trying on her third outfit—
"Get me out of Queen’s District."
"No problem." The woman took the coin and firmly agreed, then put her half-changed clothes back on and led Feng Xue out of the changing room.
Despite Feng Xue’s abrupt appearance and his bulky overcoat over his formal attire making him look somewhat cumbersome, the suit’s power to blend in with the surroundings still worked effectively, so much so that none of the clerks thought it odd that this suddenly appearing man came out of the women’s dressing room with a customer.
"I’ll have the ones I tried on earlier packed and sent to my house." Clearly, the woman able to shop in this store was a well-off lady. She brandished a card Feng Xue didn’t recognize and, amid respectful farewells from the clerks, walked out of the store with Feng Xue.
"Get in the car!" The rich lady walked to a car parked at the curb, got in herself and then waved at Feng Xue to join. To his surprise, the vehicle wasn’t a supercar or luxury car as one might expect but rather a very ordinary, budget-friendly BMW.
Although a BMW wasn’t necessarily a poor choice, this car might actually be worth less than the money she spent on clothes today.
However, Feng Xue didn’t hesitate and got into the car. As the car door closed, the vehicle didn’t immediately start. Feng Xue turned to look and realized the rich lady was changing her shoes.
"Getting into the car and switching from high heels to flats? She must be someone who follows traffic rules," Feng Xue thought to himself while his eyes kept darting outside, until the engine started and he confirmed there were no trackers, allowing him to finally breathe a sigh of relief.
After all, human concentration is limited. Once one mentally labels the target as "a single person," they subconsciously overlook anything outside of this when they see groups of two or more. Additionally, given that Feng Xue had changed into another outfit, the chance of being immediately spotted was indeed slim.
Now that he relaxed, aches from earlier bullet impacts surged through his body. Although his outfit had bulletproof features, blunt trauma still had to be endured.
He let himself slump into the soft car seat, concentrating on revolving his inner strength for rapid relief from physical fatigue during this extreme relaxation, until he finally turned his attention to observe this wealthy lady who had helped him escape the dangerous area.
She had the classic blonde hair and blue eyes, sculpted features, wore light makeup, dressed in a white T-shirt paired with a black figure-hugging skirt and nude stockings, highlighting her tempting figure. Her jewelry comprised only two ruby stud earrings and a refined hairpin holding up her blonde hair.
She looked to be about twenty-four or twenty-five, but considering that Caucasians mature earlier (or rather, age more visibly) than Asians, she might be even younger.
Despite her outfit leaning towards highlighting her figure for temptation, at first glance, the initial impression wasn’t pretty or sexy, but rather... cool.
It was exactly the kind of charm suited for tomb raiding in the mountains (that’s archaeology by Lara).
As the vehicle moved through the streets of Bakerland, suddenly, the rich young woman’s phone rang.
She casually unlocked her phone and hadn’t even begun to speak when an irritated voice came through from the other end of the line:
"Jessica! Where the hell have you run off to?"
"I’m near Elizabeth Square, what’s up?" The young woman identified as Jessica responded nonchalantly, and the voice immediately yelled back—
"What’s up? Can you actually ask me what’s up? Who was it that wanted the spot? Who promised to get the job done? Now the queen is on Saint George Avenue, and you’re asking me what’s up? You have ten minutes to get here!"
"That won’t work, I need to drop someone off, I need to finish what I’ve agreed to first."
"Drop someone off? You’re damn well supposed to be working! And what do you mean by agreeing to something for someone else? Didn’t you promise me? I’m laying it down here; if you don’t make it in ten minutes, don’t bother coming!"
"Beep beep beep—"
The call abruptly ended, and Feng Xue watched as Jessica jolted, then slammed on the brakes, smacked herself on the forehead, and looked over at Feng Xue in the passenger seat with a bewildered expression:
"What the ’Victoria swear word’ has gotten into me? Forget it, brace yourself, I’m speeding up!"
With that, Jessica floored the accelerator, and the car, which had been just at the speed limit, immediately roared to life with a surge of thrust, shooting forward.
"Um..." Feng Xue chuckled awkwardly, recalling the map of the area in her mind. Transactions were mutual, in a way considered a type of contract. Feng Xue’s request was "get me out of Queen’s District," and upon the other’s agreement, a contract was formed.
Regardless of any issues, the other party would do their utmost to escort Feng Xue out of Queen’s District, and until they left, Feng Xue couldn’t break away from this "escort."
Of course, this kind of contract could still be modified—
That would involve spending some more money to change the terms.
Mulling this over, Feng Xue reached out for a coin, planning to end the contract, but unexpectedly, before she could speak, the other person seemed to realize something and tossed a coin to Feng Xue first:
"Come back home with me, um, this is how to use it, right?"
Feng Xue stared at the coin handed to her, dumbfoundedly staring at the woman, finally resorting to a single expletive—
"Fuck!"
