Chapter 123: Chapter 123 Waiting

"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The repetitive sounds of digging made Feng Xue both nervous and excited. On one hand, she hoped someone would come soon to dig her out of this hellish place, on the other hand, she worried that the newcomers might have malicious intentions.

Or, to put it more precisely, ill intentions were almost a certainty.

After all, there were generally two types of people who would dig through the garbage in the garbage mountain: outsiders and locals (referring to the transmigrators who had been living there since their arrival). Outsiders who came into the mountain were there to make money; Feng Xue was dead sure they wouldn’t simply ignore someone like herself, injured and covered in valuable items, without harboring any wicked thoughts.

As for the locals... A bunch of poor souls hunted like beasts or livestock, expecting them to treat her kindly was as laughable as a slave trader from the Pirate World expecting kindness from the fish-men—even though she herself wasn’t a slave trader, it’s not like slave traders had that written on their foreheads.

However, such intense anxiety didn’t last long, not because Feng Xue had come to terms with her situation, but because the digging sounds had stopped.

Listening to the now significantly fainter noises, Feng Xue furrowed her brows slightly. Judging by the previous sounds of digging, there should be very few diggers, at most one or two people.

So...

"Did they dig enough? Or did they realize they couldn’t finish, so they’ve gone back to call for help?"

Feng Xue furrowed her brows, then let out a resigned sigh:

"I should have kept that bottle of red medicine!"

But this thought was quickly cast out by Feng Xue herself, because even if that Blood Bottle, which required one to eat the bottle along with its contents, was still in her possession, in her buried state, she wouldn’t have been able to get it to her mouth anyway.

Perhaps it was the peace of mind brought on by successful Meditation, but Feng Xue quickly steeled her spirit again, casting aside the things she couldn’t control for the time being. She re-entered a state of Meditation and began the deep Cultivation of the Divine Songs.

While in Meditation, Feng Xue couldn’t clearly perceive the passage of time. She only knew that every so often, the sound of digging would resurface, then disappear again.

At first, whenever the sound was heard, Feng Xue would be jolted out of her state of Meditation, but eventually, she was even able to maintain her Meditation while still being aware of her surroundings.

Feng Xue wasn’t from the Martial World after all, so she failed to realize just how extraordinary her current state was.

The so-called Meditation, as the name suggests, refers to "entering a state of Silence." In this state, one is absolutely unable to pay attention to the outside world; or rather, if one pays attention to the outside, it means the "mind is active," and once the mind is "active," one would naturally exit the state of "Silence."

After all, activity and stillness are relative—the heart of a person can’t be Both Still and Moving at the same time.

But Feng Xue’s current situation broke this law, achieving the weird state of being Both Still and Moving, which might be the result of the Divine effects produced by the multiple Supreme Martial Arts infused into the Divine Songs, or perhaps Feng Xue’s own unique talent, or maybe a latent element granted by a certain tag. Regardless, Feng Xue herself hadn’t realized that she had actually divided a part of her Consciousness to stay with her body, allowing her major Consciousness to enter the Meditation state.

Of course, if it were just that, it would merely be considered a case of multiple personality disorder or schizophrenia. What was most unbelievable about Feng Xue was that these two Consciousnesses were still unified—showing no signs of independence. The Consciousness that remained to control her body could feel the operations of the meditative Consciousness, and the meditative Consciousness could also clear along to the sounds from the outside.

This was something that could only be achieved under the conditions of having plenty of time, a somewhat boring need, and a bit of talent, along with a stroke of coincidence.

In the Chinese cultural sphere, there’s a special term for such accidental, non-replicable miracles—

Divine

Also known as, One Thought to God.

While her current achievement of Being Both Still and Moving didn’t bring her any extraordinary Power, it had endowed Feng Xue with a Foundation far superior to that of others. With careful nurturing, once the time to bloom and bear fruit came, it would surely yield a unique harvest.

Several days passed without notice, and Feng Xue had begun to maintain a partially awake state of Consciousness even when no one was digging, and her Spiritual Platform Mirror had been filled with inscriptions.

However, Feng Xue knew that these inscriptions were just a summary of her current achievements in Cultivation. When she completely mastered the subsequent Chapters, the seemingly full Bright Mirror would undoubtedly reveal more vacancies.

By this time, her internal injuries had mostly healed, with only a few noticeable fractures remaining in both legs and the spine. However, with the help of the Silent Boots, she believed that she would recover her mobility within a month or two.

Yet, before she could regain that level of recovery, the diggers would apparently make their move first. During Feng Xue’s day after day of meditative Cultivation, as a noise different from the digging sounds of the previous days rang out, Feng Xue opened her eyes, and what she saw was a pair of pure and flawless eyes...

... Time rewinds...

In a certain valley in the garbage mountain of the South District, a village of over a hundred people lived, just like countless other villages in this "mountain range," it was composed of nothing, they gathered to hide from the Slave Catching Team, supporting each other’s Survival in the dark corners.

The village had been established for over a decade, some older members had been grabbed, and some new ones had joined. In the village, even some newborns were growing up.

The children born here might not have as many varied toys and forms of Entertainment as those in the Real World, but they had a different form of fun—

Hunting for their own "treasures" amidst the vast expanse of garbage mountain.

"Vera!"

The girl, who seemed to be only about ten years old, was sneaking out of the village when a voice suddenly called out from behind her, startling her so much that her hair stood on end, but she quickly recognized the source of the voice and turned around to say:

"Don’t you know scaring people can scare them to death?"

"I didn’t mean to scare you," the boy who spoke emerged from one side, also appearing to be just over ten years old, with a resemblance to the girl. After offering a quick explanation, he immediately declared with serious conviction:

"The village chief said the garbage day is coming soon, we shouldn’t leave the village recently!"

"The only entrance to that cave is right next to the village. If it could be found just like that, we would have been discovered long ago! And you saw that big thing too, there must be something awesome that fell down with it!" The girl clenched her fists and spoke earnestly, "If you’re scared, stay here, I was planning to go alone anyway!"

"Who, who’s scared?!" The boy retorted stubbornly, then lowered his voice somewhat weakly:

"Never mind, I’ll go with you, who makes me your brother..."

"I’m clearly the big sister!"
